Vid 93
2004-08-15 16:36:38
Finished last night, spent the following 13.5 hours trying to fix the timing. I ended up changing the framerate, but the closest match still managed to be a tad too slow in the beginning, perfect in the middle, and a tad fast at the end. WTF is wmm thinking? I have no idea. I even made certain all my source clips were exactly the same this time - to get around this problem. But it doesn't seem to make much difference. Regardless, quality was a must for this vid. The sections I made just fuzzed with any other production method, so I had to produce them at the highest quality possible before combining and compressing.
But I sorted it out well enough. The beginning still has some sort of problem - missing frames or duplicates, I'm not sure which. I did catch a mess of duplicate frames - entire sections at times. I just don't understand how that happened. I doublechecked the originals three times, reproducing the sections to see if it was a fluke, but each time there's some sort of duplicate section (about 15 frames) - only it changes each time. Makes no logical sense. All I can say is that I'm glad I don't usually put much emphasis on picture perfection. This method is hardly worth it.
I couldn't use mpg, though - not with my odd framerate. The closest match with tmpgenc was the 29.97 and that's quite a bit too fast - all that frame rearranging, I'd never waste it by shifting the speed up again. So it's xvid, a solid 55mbs - which isn't as bad as I'd thought, but I generally use xvid for the tiny vids.
The video -
Pretty, that's the word that comes to mind. The flow is disjointed in the beginning of the animated chorus, and I'm pretty sure I'll get complaints about that. People will also complain about how slow the final stanza is (because of the fast rap beneath the softer lyrics). Yeah, I know what responses to expect. But it looks *just* the way I imagined it. The animated chorus - the first chorus - starts 'off-beat' a bit, with the invert flashing set so it reverses the star flow. That is the best attention-getter I've ever managed with a video. Of course, that means it'll get gripes from the critics, but that's to be expected. The second chorus is perfect, so they'll probably point to that and say "see, you should have done that to begin with, it just took you a while to get into the beat there". Blegh. It's like no one is allowed to move against the grain unless it's an accident. What's the point of having control over something if you can't do the 'wrong' things just the way you do the 'right?' Intentional. Just because it isn't expected doesn't mean it was a mistake, or sloppy editing. I can vouch for that - it's harder to intentionally skip beats than it is to just place something over a clearly marked note in the audio timeline. But whatever.
The bike scenes is my favorite, still. ^__^ I love the way the water twists behind them. Now I know that I can not only create my own 'anime-like' backgrounds for a shot, but I can animate it so it moves the way a natural background would. That's just cool for me.
My only regret with the vid is the translation. I only know one word in russian - the word for 'no', which I can say but can't spell. >.< And for some reason that bablefish translation program won't accept the Russian lyrics - it just tosses them back at me instead of translating them to english. So I went with the best english translation of the song I could find - I only found two, but this one seems pretty literal. I'm not too worried. I love editing foreign languages. Now I wish I'd done that for my German 'Du Hast' vid. I have Japanese vids, a very bad but functional French vid, the expected English, and a Russian one. If I can just get ahold of my old professor to check my translation, I'll start my Spanish vid and have a nice mix of languages for my amv collection. I love that. And I have the perfect Chinese song picked out - but I think I just might match it to Soul Hunter. I was waiting for the entire series, so I'll probably be doing that one soon. I'm just not sure if I want to do lyric sync, or take it on 'sound/emotion' alone.
On a different note, I finally got the last dvd (12) for Saiyuki. I can't believe they cut the series off there. I'm going to look and hope there's more - they never finished the main storyline it started with. :(
And they didn't show what Hakkai looks like when he takes off his limiter!!! I can't believe the gal of those people. I was waiting so impatiently for that last dvd so I could see his transformation, then they shift focus instead. Jerks. See if I don't make another Gojyo/Hakkai vid just to spite them. ;p But not until I get my Bunchu/Cid vid done for Soul Hunter. Man, I love those guys. Now that is an adult, non-bishy, relationship that I enjoy watching. Who needs yaoi when you can have realistic friends like that? Happy 'Mina. ^_^

I love reading! ^_^
I know, a little silly to have an entry just to say that, but I do. I love it more than any hobby or activity I've ever taken part in. Imagination, freedom, creation, thoughts given life. Music videos are great fun to make or watch, and when they have stories I can watch and almost match what I get from reading - but not quite. They just aren't long enough. I can't get in all the way to the point where time becomes unimportant. Settle down with a good book. How many times have people repeated that old saying? And why is it, as many times as they've said it, so many people still sit and complain about being bored when there are worlds to explore all around them. This is the age of technology - stories are everywhere on the net if you can't find hardcopy books to read. There's no excuse not to, even the blind can find ways to read whether it's audiocassette or brail. The next time someone complains to me about being bored, I'm going to snort at the ridiculousness of that and tell him to go back to school and learn to read. If there's a story out there that hasn't been written, go write it so you can read it. One way or another, there's something to read for every person's taste - it's just a matter of finding it and diving headfirst into it. Ah...wonderful passtime.

Heh, this site is funny.
Seems I 'dominate' the lower half of the romance genre for amvs. Considering all but 1 of the vids are yaoi or yuri, that says a lot. We need more romance videos, preferably different from the 'expected' ones. The yaoi/yuri/obscure pairing vids are obviously wanted by *someone* out there. So...make more romance vids featuring one or more (I'd like more) bishonen. ;p

Lots of petty things keeping me busy these days, so I won't be on the forum for a while. If anyone needs to contact me, use this email address:
arigatomina@hotmail.com - not the one on my profile. That one's pretty full, so chances are it won't get through.
I'll still be checking out the main page, I just won't stop in to post.

Life sucks
2004-06-28 14:36:10
Everyone left on Friday, Today (Monday), (about an hour ago - 30 feet from my house, so at least I was able to walk home without calling a cab) I screw up. Three days I managed to stay out of trouble. This is my second car crash, once again, my fault. I swear you'd think I would learn not to drive when I'm half asleep. I'm waiting for the insurance guy to stop by and pick up the report since I'm out a vehicle (again). ~_~
So, interestingly it was a woman again. I've yet to crash into a male driver. Her car didn't look very good, but she drove it off so I guess she was better than me. My right, front tire was sagged in - probably bent the axel or something that will keep it in the shop for weeks. I just really *really* hope they can fix it before mom and the rest get back from Florida. I'm going to need my car to pay off this one. And the worst part! This was my vacation. :(
So...I can't get India, won't be able to so much as go to the post office for a week (all my family is gone, and I'm not about to spring for a cab or walk half way across town). All the money I've been saving is going to be chump change - I figure I'll be lucky if I get off light on the fees to fix it - I don't even want to think about how much my insurance is going to increase now. And that stupid television is coming next Tuesday. At least this way I'll have more than enough time to figure out where to put the hulk. I just wonder if Bobby will still want me to buy it now that I'll be making payments on my car bill as well. I *told* him I couldn't afford a television - I've been watching my little 12 inch one for 4 yrs now, what the hell would I do with some 65 inch monster? But he insisted. It's just because my brother bought his old 73 inch and isn't making payments for it - he wants to rub it in his face that I can pay my way even though I make one third what my brother does.
Now the real question is how to pay for my car. I'll probably have to use my credit card - I have a 5000 limit and I've only put 30 on it in the last four months (I was saving, damn it). That'll set me back for another year or two. Heh, at this rate I'm going to be living in this little apartment for the rest of my life. Sometimes it really sucks being independent. I want to run to my mom and live in her garage again. ;p At least then I wouldn't have to worry about food or rent. Speaking of which...I have enough groceries to last me two days. After that I'll *have* to walk somewhere to get some food. Damn good I cashed my check (planning to pick up India). And my brother is going to feed the animals for my mom, so I don't have to worry about that.
All I have to do is sit here for a week and hope I didn't just ruin my mom's vacation. God knows she could use a break without having to worry about me. My sister keeps her miserable enough without me adding to the crap.
