JOURNAL: Arigatomina

  • yaoi-con 2004-10-28 02:40:17 My first real vacation since 1997. o.O We're going early since India has relatives in Cali, so we'll be heading for the airport in an hour or so - long drive from here.

    Wish me fun. ^_^ I've never been to that side of the US.
  • Gaaah!! 2004-09-09 21:41:46 And the main character - Kazuya - is *Yusuke*!!!

    I should have known, it's identical, and it was so familiar from the start I didn't think twice about it. Heh, I'd never have connected 'Here is Greenwood' with Yu Yu Hakusho. What a small, small world. ^_^;
  • OMG! 2004-09-09 21:38:42 I love anime! ^___^;;

    I finally got a copy of Here is Greenwood in the original Japanese and wow...do I ever love Shinobu's voice. It's so 'evil/creepy' during the funny scenes, but hot as hell the rest of the time. Gotta love those soft spoken masculine voice actors...

    Ah...happy 'Mina...

  • Playin' Hookie ;p 2004-08-27 16:19:24 My boss is in Alabama and the guys cut out early, leaving me to hold down the fort. So I'm online instead of playing games. God I love my job. ;p

    Oh, and the new vid is out. It's not special, not popular, and lacks effects. I feel like I've been refreshed - I like this one even more than the last (and I really liked my last Sailormoon vid, the effects alone will stay with me for years). This, though...egh.

    I'm a fanfic reader, and avid one, yet I cannot find a *single* fic for either of these characters. And I don't just mean romance fics, even the fics focusing on Kou Hiko's son - Tenka - they dont' mention his father at all. What's wrong with these people? Hiko is probably my favorite character from the anime, with Bunchu coming in second (I think it's the third eye...blame Hiei).

    I guess no one cares about adult characters. It makes me feel so old. ~_~

    I like the young-looking guys as much as the next fangirl, but Hiko has this 'realistic' appeal to him. I honestly don't know why the fangirls ignore him. Maybe I've just lost touch with the rest of the bishie fans. All I can think is how unappreciated he is. ;_;

  • Fanfiction communities better than amv communities? 2004-08-16 19:25:45 What is wrong with this place? What is the point of being in a fandom if the members themselves think they're evil for what they do?

    Amv makers should understand that they are a part of a fandom - using the thing they're a fan of - in this case, anime. Since when is that a horrible thing?

    Fandoms exist by gathering fans, and all fandoms continue because those fans *do* something with the thing they're fans of - anime fans write stories about the anime, draw pictures using the characters, make videos using the anime - they *do* something with the anime because it furthers the fandom. Anyone who thinks that is a horrible thing should never be a part of any fandom.

    Within a fandom, those people 'using' the anime are creators. They take an original and make it their own. Fanartists take pictures and add their own flare to it. Fanficwriters take the stories and add their own twists to it. Fanvidmakers take the anime and make it fit their imagination. This is common sense - they *do* something personal with the anime because they're anime fans. And they share that personal thing because they're members of a fandom.

    Within a fandom, the creators are protected from those who can't create but want to pretend they can. These are the people who copy fanfics and post them under their names. If you did that with a novel, the offender would not only get charged with a blatant crime, they'd fall under disdain by all writers who spend any time and effort on what they write. Within fandoms, those people get the same disdain - and sites ban the people for the crime.

    Why? Why is it okay for writers to host their fanfics on Fanfiction.net but not for plagiarisers? Because writers made it - they took the original and made something new with it. The ones plagiarising the fics didn't make anything.

    And because - within a fandom - creators are protected.

    Why do we protect creators? Because we're all in this together and when the creators suffer, the fandom ceases to exist. If nothing is 'done' with the anime, there is no fandom - there are just fans. Even message boards do something with the anime - they talk about it.

    Imagine if people went around copying essays and reposting them with their own names there. Who would consider them to be "no worse" than the ones who wrote the essays?

    They didn't write crap - they copied and pasted. Sure, the writers of those essays don't own the anime they're writing about, but they sure as hell own the words and thoughts and sentences they created. This should be common sense.

    But you come over to the amv fandom and what do you see? No protection.

    A person copies and pastes another fan's creation and what happens? You get creators sniffing about how "they're no worse than us for creating something."

    Only they didn't create crap.

    This attitude demeans the creators. You can demean yourself all you want, but when you put that on your community, there's no point being a member anymore. If everyone who makes something as a fan should be burned in hell for it (with the ones who steal that fanwork being 'no worse' than them), then burn the entire fandom.

    There's no point having a community based around fanwork if you don't put any importance (hence protection) on that fanwork.

    Might as well call this place anime-clips dot org if it's nothing more than a source for people to make videos.

    You know what's hypocritical? Amv creators taking their work to cons and passing it off as a legitimate fanwork, then coming back here and demeaning those people who praised them - their fellow members of the community. Saying a person who copies and pastes your vid under his name is no different from you spending months of effort on the original video.

    No one would claim that the original vid-maker is no different from the original anime maker. So why do we not differentiate between a vid-maker and a vid copier? That makes no sense.

    Regardless, this site has no appreciation of its creators. If you don't protect your members, you have no right to mock other aspects of the fandom that do. I'm officially sick of seeing amv-maker show disdain toward fanfic-writers.

    Fanfiction writers have a code of ethics that is particular *within* the community of writers.

    They don't steal each other's work!

    Why? Because they're a community. Dur.

    Yet here we have amv makers sniff at fanfiction communities as if they were the infantile group. At least they know how to be a functional community. They take care of their own.

    All groups understand - 'Americans,' 'Boxers,' 'Jockies,' 'Trekies' - even cults run by psychos understand that you protect your 'community'.

    This community is made up of creators and people who like to see what the creators make. If you don't protect the creators, all you have left are the people who want to see...with nothing left for them to see.

    If you don't consider yourself a creator, don't pretend to 'make' videos. Go copy and paste a vid. If you really think copy-and-paste is no different from editing, then by all means, copy away. Hopefully there will still be a few real creators to show you the disdain you deserve for trying to take credit for another person's effort. No vid maker takes credit for the effort that went into making the anime. So no vid-paster should take credit for the effort that goes into an amv.
