JOURNAL: Arigatomina

  • busy busy ^ ^ 2005-09-23 08:20:26 I have my new 'big side-project' idea. It won't be done till next year, but I've officially started it. When I announced my fan-animated vid, I mentioned wanting to do some crossover action scenes. Well, this vid will have that, but it'll be more upbeat/random fun than a dedicated action vid. Just brainstorming scenes I want to see leaves me grinning like an idiot for hours. ^_^;;;

The only drawback is that once again it won't appeal to the amv audience. I haven't decided 100% which song I want to use, but I have one that would really be fun to make scenes for, and open enough to let me create whatever comes to mind. If it goes the way I expect, most people won't like it for the song. And the anime...well, it'll probably have as much variety as my 'Ego Trip' did, characters from at least 25 anime. That'll mean half the fun character crosses will go right over people's heads. Wow, do I hate loving so many characters and having them not be well known to the general viewers.

One difference is that this vid won't be yaoi. I know, shocker there! >.<
It'll still be mostly (or all) bishonen, but I want to do fun action (bordering on dance), and romance wouldn't fit. Hopefully the tips I got from the last vid will make animating action easier.

I'll probably be putting caps on my deviantart account again, even animated gifs if they look good enough. I know PoT fans will like the sequence I'm doing now - Shinji versus Kirihara, samurai style. I haven't actually done Kiri yet, but Shinji looks *hot* in a kimono. ;p

I'm going to have fun with backgrounds in this vid, too. None of those nastily complicated and useless forest settings. For the inevitable Vegeta-Hiei face off, I expect to have Bulma and Yukina sipping tea in the background. The very idea - again - leaves me grinning like an idiot. I love projects like this. ^__^

While this side-project is going on, I'm still working on normal things. I have another PoT vid scheduled to be done soon, and then an old YYH request vid I've had on hold for months. Someone dropped me a note reminding me I still have reviews to write (I thought I'd finished them, but it looks like I was *really* wrong...), so that's on the table. And naturally, I'll continue to remaster my old PoT and YYH vids so I can get them back online as soon as possible. The side-project is just that - something I can work with on the side.
  • Grrr... 2005-09-21 23:20:09 I hate being stupid compared to the people around me. I'm not technically inclined and never have been. Does that mean I'm lazy for not understanding the guides no matter how many times I read them outloud and pretend they make sense to me? No, it means I'm stupid. Have some sympathy, you techno-geniuses for whom it makes perfect sense. Stupid doesn't always mean lazy, sometimes it means not having the same brain layout as the intelligent and technically inclined people have. I can accept not being able to grasp something everyone else takes for granted, but the automatic conclusion that "not understanding equals lazy" is annoying as hell.

I've spent years finding ways to do what everyone else does with a few clicks. Do you think if I could understand the guides I would take such a long way to get the same results? If I were lazy, I'd find someone to translate the guide into simple, 'stupid people' language so it's intelligible. Laziness has nothing to do with it. It's an inability to identify the imperative sentences in one very thick and incomprehensible stack of information. Sensory overload. I can only go so far picking familiar words out of a text in a foreign language before I have to acknowledge that it's all Portuguese to me, and a minor in Spanish is only going to get me so far.
  • Been busy 2005-09-05 21:25:26 I'm all obsessed with Prince of Tennis, and it's kept me pretty busy. I've been reading every Shinji-based fic I can find (even the really bad het fics where he isn't at all in character). He's my official favorite from the series, though Kamio is right up there. I love having an anime with so many characters, and liking almost *all* of those characters.

I finally have enough of the series to start remastering my old vids. I made a new one for Fudomine, and a remaster for my old Golden Pair vid, 'You're the One'. It's odd doing remasters because I have to actually remake them (wmm), and there's a really big difference in my old editing style versus my current one. I expect to make a new PoT vid for Tezuka and Fuji next, then another remaster (either for my "Partners" vid or "Doubles").

I'm one dvd away from having the entire YYH series (dub version). Once I get those I'll be making a request vid first, since I've been putting it off so long. Then I'll start remastering my old vids for that series. I expect to start with "Eye to Eye" since that one was interlaced and especially fugly when I made it.

I think I'm going to have to drop out of the fic contest I entered. I aimed for the 50,000 word entry, and I'm only about 40,000 - and the fic isn't even halfway done. Unless I get a lot of inspiration this month, I won't be able to get it done in time.

I might go to yaoi-con again this year, but it'll depend on how much gas prices have raised the price of plane tickets. I'd want to spend my money on doujinshi's again, so it's no good if the tickets use up all I have.

I'm still waiting for my R2 dvds that I ordered, been two months now. I don't think I'll be getting them, or my money back, either. First time I've been screwed for buying anime online. I guess I'll have to wait till next year when the dvds come out in the US. I was hoping to get a jump on them and avoid the dubs. So much for that.

I think I'm going to have to buy the Prince of Tennis movie and the Atobe special. The copy I have of the movie is excellent, but the Atobe special is pretty bad. I really wish they'd get off their asses and license this anime. Did they learn nothing from Gundam Wing? Us fangirls spend a lot of money on pretty-boy anime. All they have to do is market it toward us. It doesn't matter if it's supposedly shonen or not. And Prince of Tennis has been out so long, it's stupid that it hasn't been picked up. An unknown ova like "I'll/CKBC" gets licensed and PoT doesn't? That makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm getting Pilot Candidate, and I'll be getting Spiral and DN Angel soon, so my bishonen anime collection is growing nicely. I'll probably have to rent Fruits Basket and Full Metal Alchemist, though I'm not particularly interested in either of them. They're just sources I feel I should have in my inventory.

The bosses younger brother is going to school for two months, so I won't be switching jobs till next year (if then). I'm not worried anymore. I can always go with my boss and help him start his new business, so I won't be forced into graduate school after all. I *do* want to be a math teacher, definitely. But not now. I still feel 19. I can't look in a mirror and see myself as a teacher. A tutor, sure, but not a teacher. That means I'll be old when I go to graduate school, with a bunch of 'right out of college' kids, but that's the way I'd prefer it. I want to live more before I go back to school. I don't want to be pushed into college again. If my mom needs another reason to be proud of me, I'll get a night job and buy her something. No matter what I do, I'm paying my own bills so I'm automatically better than my brother and sister. Funny, that. I'm the one with the least motivation, and I'm the only one self-sufficient. Go figure.
  • yukimura sanada and PoT 2005-07-28 07:29:27 Okay, I know Samurai Deeper Kyo is supposed to use real names for some of the characters, sort of like they did in Rurouni Kenshin, and that Sanada Yukimura is one of those 'true' names from early Japanese history. But who is he supposed to be? And why would his name pop up in Prince of Tennis?

I noticed that before I understood - I'd done searches for fics that included Yukimura (from sdk), and I kept getting Prince of Tennis results. I didn't know PoT had it's own Yukimura. But even stranger, it has its own Sanada. And wouldn't you know that Yukimura and Sanada are the two best players on their team and best friends to boot - just so people will say their names together.

I'm still watching the episodes Andrea sent me, so hopefully I'll start picking a song out this weekend. So far the anime is a lot more drawn out than I thought (I'd only seen the first 40 epsisodes). I actually don't mind most of the filler. They have the most adorable chibi episodes! ^_^;; There's one with a 'wild west' theme that reminds me of Will Smith's song - I could so match those chibi cowboys up with Trigun and that song and have one screwy parody vid. ;p Idea!
  • Project done 2005-07-26 22:54:02 I'm actually surprised at how quickly I finished the video - Dark Half. It has a nasty mix that will probably get me some complaints, using an 'overused' song, and four of the 'overused' anime. But you know, I'm still naive like that. I honestly believe it is more difficult to make something original with 'common' sources than it is with a new anime. And one thing I maintain, this vid is original. I'd be shocked if I learned there was another like it on this website. I've seen some flash line art 'fan animated' videos on deviantart, but no actual 'amvs'.

Since I finished this a lot sooner than I thought I would, I'm not sure what to do with it. Originally I'd thought I could send it off to yaoi-con next year. I already have 4 entries picked out (not sent yet, but bookmarked). But now I'm not sure I want this vid to 'compete'. It's too weird. Maybe as an exhibition vid, but that would make me seem pretentious. I'm not fooling myself about my 'artistic' abilities here. I can't draw for crap, and I'm a mediocre editor. The only 'fan' thing I can do with any skill is fanfiction. I know that. But wow...I'm really happy with this vid. I even announced it in the forum. I just want to share it.

Because you know...the next one I do like this will be 7 times better, and given my limited drawing skills that's a big improvement. I'm almost as excited to have this video 'finished' and cemented as a learning experience, as I am at the thought of what I know I can do next - having done this.

I do have a few small projects I'll have to pound out next, before I launch into another private obsession. I've promised a new YYH vid - not for another month or two (I'm still getting the new dvds for the series and I'd rather wait - better quality, more source footage available). In the meantime, I'll be working on a Prince of Tennis video for a very old fanfic-writer I know - Andrea Readwolf. Imagine my shock to see an old name in my email box. I look forward to making a vid for her, sort of like doing a fic request (which I never had the humility to do, snobby writer that I was ^_^;;).

There's something to say for being content to be an average editor - nothing holds you back from doing whatever you feel like. No expectations.

/also have lots of ops to write, as soon as I clear this project from my harddrive
