JOURNAL: Arigatomina

  • vids down, song shift, blah blah 2005-11-18 21:08:06 So, yeah, I lost my hosting for Dark Half, what I consider my 'master' vid for pure sweat put in and concept realization. I'm a little annoyed, but honestly I know I used the song because I couldn't find anything else to fit the concept I wanted to use. I never liked having to resort to an Evanescence song for that vid - felt dirty inside... ^_^;; But it was the only thing I could think of at the time, and I listened to it enough to get to like the music (sort of like forcing yourself to smoke - you cough and grit about it, but eventually you'll be addicted). I didn't pick the song and then do the footage to match, it was the other way around - I had half the footage animated before I settled on a song. This ban on Evanescence just smacks me upside the head for not going with my gut reaction to not resort to the easy match.

    As far as I'm concerned, this means the video is back 'open' for modification. I'll probably go a long time before finding a song to fit it to, and once I find one I'll be redoing a bunch of the frames to fix the animation problems people pointed out when I released it. I doubt I'll reuse all of the footage, either, since it would be a remake more than a 'switch song' vid. But it's a chance to try again that I'm not going to miss. This time I'll probably do what I wanted originally - have a lot more anime and a quicker pace, with more of a mix of romance and violence. One major regret I had with forcing myself to settle with a song so I could actually make the vid was that Haunted had no openings for unexcepted humor to offset the darkness - the proposed Golden Pair section I mentioned on deviantart, and the dbz inclusion. Looking on the bright side, this is a chance to do it right. I just don't know if I have the determination to go through those tgas again anytime soon. ^_^;; It'll have to wait till I get somewhere with my current animated project.

    I don't remember if my two Creed vids were locally available or not - I was planning to request them for deletion so I could do remasters, so they may have already been on indirect links. Either way, I'm not bothered by losing the hosting for them. I still plan to remaster my other DBZ vids, but I'm not particularly attached to those two. I liked Fuel, but the other one I stopped watching a year ago. No great loss there. ^_^;

    I'm almost settled on making a PoT vid next - I have a song and the basic concept. It'll be a mixed school vid, featuring Ohtori and Shishido (Hyoutei), Kirihara (Rikkaidai), and Yuuta (St. Rudolph). I predict PoT fans will be a little put off by the song choice (female singer), but the concept should be appealing, as well as the feature of three minor players (Ohtori and Shishido are doubles players, so I'm counting them together). Now it's just a matter of ripping the footage and getting my stupid ffdshow to work properly. I don't know if I can make this video using Premiere - I know exactly how to make it with wmm, but I can't get an image of how the project would look in Premiere's timeline. This concept was made for wmm. Translating that to an overly complicated program seems like a major waste of available editing options. I wish I could get wmm to work properly instead of taking a simple, enjoyable editing project and making it into a chore. >.<
  • PoT and 'Devil and Devil' 2005-11-14 23:06:39 So I finally finished the Tactics vid, nothing to go on about there besides learning experience. Now it's back to the promised Prince of Tennis vids. I haven't quite decided whether to do a Kirihara Akaya vid next (Rikkaidai), or a general collective video. I'm not feeling quite up to making the parody vid just yet - too much specification, frame editing, and general difficulty. I wouldn't mind focusing on a school - Hyoutei or Rikkaidai, but I don't have any songs in mind for that sort of video. Romance is also in the air - songs ready - but I haven't decided pairings for them, so that would depend on how much I can brainstorm before I get impatient to start something.

    I'm also considering a YYH parody vid (song and concept have been cemented for months), or a DBZ parody vid - same situation, except I'd have to rent more footage of android 18, and I'm a little wary of making a video featuring a girl. ^_^;

    ..

    I'm absolutely in love with the "Devil and Devil" manga series.

    SPOILERS;

    If there's an anime out there for this series, I'm buying the Jap dvds. I couldn't wait for it to be licensed - I want to see Ios attacking Sword after he gets Lucifer's dark blade and goes on a rampage. Or time even just the torture scene when his wings turn black and Kanna steps up. I'm a big Ios fan. ^.^ He reminds me of Kurama, except instead of a dark 'youko' side, he has Kanna. And he's an angel. ;p I like Sword, too, being a demon-fan, but I could do without Souma. I'm not big on the wimpy, geeky, 'sweet' male leads - not when he shows up and makes the fun/cool guy disappear for chapters at a time. Heck, I even like the girls! The main girl reminds me of Keiko (YYH) so much that I don't want to kill her *too* much when she gets everyone in trouble by butting her nose into fights. I actually laughed when she was the only one who could stop Ios and Sword from concluding their epic battle, with all the demons and angels freaking out. That surprised me, since I really wanted to see what they'd do after it was over - and who would win. It was worth it for the chibi-Ios on Kanna's shoulder. Cute! ^___^
  • switching to premiere 6.0 2005-11-04 21:23:19 For this vid, at least. I seem to be having memory issues with wmm 2.0 now that I've reinstalled it on my freshly cleaned computer. It doesn't lock up, it just closes itself if I get more than 3 seconds on a timeline. I'm having trouble doing transitions with Premiere - can't just drag a clip to fade it into another, and I don't know where to set it so it fades for as long as I want it to - it keeps coming up short. I also don't know the waveform on Premiere, so I'm doing a...cute conversion from wmm. It took me a few minutes to get used to it, but it comes out as Premiere's "one frame" count times 2.8158 = 0:00:01 seconds in wmm. Once I get used to reading the waveform I won't have to do this conversion, but this lets me match up the familiar beats with the way they're shown in Premiere. I *could* refer to some of those "how to sync" guides that use premiere, but I've already read them and I don't want my editing influenced. I read them out of curiousity - if I read them while editing I'd be guaranteed to pick up a few things and implement them. Can't have that.

    I'm also worried about the infamous lock-ups everyone reports when using verious versions of Premiere. Until tonight, I've gone nearly a year without having wmm lock up on me out of nowhere (I know what causes it to lock up and can avoid doing those things). I'm not used to saving every few seconds, so it's a little dangerous to be experimenting and editing at the same time with a program where I don't know what causes the lockups. Call me paranoid.

    So...I'm going to give the program a testrun. I'll figure out what's hurting wmm later this weekend. It's probably because my fast internet connection takes up a strange amount of memory and I'm sending a large file - can't disconnect till later.

    I'm not switching permanently or anything - I only have a trial version and it's not even the version Premiere's help site refers to (which explains why the instructions and pictures didn't match, dur). I'm just jumping over here for this vid since I've actually learned enough to put clips on the timeline this time. It's still way too intimidating for a self-proclaimed eternal newb like myself. ;p
  • Premiere 6.0 2005-11-03 19:20:45 So, I'm like trying this thing out again. ;p It's the same trial I tried last time, but since I reset my entire computer, it's counting itself as fresh and new. This time I may actually get some use out of the thing. I'm only planning to use it the same way I do virtualdub - layering. So far so good. I still have no idea what rubberbands are or where you're supposed to put keys, but the help file barely mentions those things. It *did* say to edit the 'rubberband' but since I don't see a rubberband I'm ignoring that part. ^.^ Yeah, I love guides that refer to things that are invisible to my eyes. But I can layer just by playing with the luminescence, rubberband thingies be damned. And weirdest thing - this program makes 'preview' files that are as big as the actual video is when I export it. Not that I'm complaining (I could always change the settings so the preview files are smaller), it's just - why should I bother exporting at all when I can just open the preview files and use those? All I want is to layer clips and export them to be used elsewhere, so if I get the same output from preview as I do from actually exporting, I won't waste my time. I just wonder why it takes so much longer to export a clip than it does to preview (when the files are the same in Virtualdub, size and quality).

    The only issue I'm getting is quality. I'm working with non-interlaced footage and it's coming out interlaced. I've set the options to 'no fields', but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm also worried about the huffyuv option - it reads 75% quality, which I've never had with that codec. I did try lagarinth (sp) since it reads 100% quality, but that just makes Premiere crash. I'll have to play with it some. Right now it crashes if I try to make a preview file using lagarinth. I haven't actually tried exporting with that codec. Of course, it would be much simpler if there were an uncompressed option. The guides on this site about exporting in Premiere mention an 'uncompressed' option, but like the rubberband thingies, it's invisible on my computer. Go figure. ;p
  • when did this happen? 2005-10-29 23:13:57 I just clicked my donation stats and I went from 'not quite a leech' to giver! 0_0

    I hope it's recent because this has been a major irritation of mine since I first found out that donations weren't accumulative after the yearly reset. Either way, I'm going to have to start donating more often now. Sure, it might seem petty, but I was VERY angry when I first found out about the stats being reset each year - the overall stats, not the 'donator priveleges'. I'd already made up my mind to donate a certain amount each year, then I found out what wasn't (at that time) mentioned on the donation pages and cut that down to the bare minimum to avoid the pledge pages. With that issue gone, I'm very happy. ^_^
