I'm updating my website. ^.^ Now my old website redirects to my new one, which then goes back to the old ones to access the content I haven't transferred yet. It's funny. I forget exactly how many sites I have all tied into that one account.
I'm still ripping footage for my multi-anime vid/s. I got bored after a few dvds of dbz, so I'm going to skip the rest of the series and leave it out. There are just way too many discs to go through on the off chance I'll find a scene I'd use, and I can't remember any more specific scenes that I really want to nab.

Yeah, I read your journal. ^_^;;
About the "the Japanese version will be much better" bit - I've watched 4 eps so far, and I'm right, it's a thousand times better than the untimely joke-cracking kiddified-to-fit-on-fox-7 dub version. Digimon was, too. So was Tokyo Mew Mew (1 million times better and then some), and Sailormoon, and Cardcaptor Sakura, and every other anime I've ever seen played on non-cable network television. It's because their audience is 7 and under. They can't have anything upsetting. This isn't like shows played on Cartoon Network (Gundam Wing had a dub that had great voicing, with dialogue almost exactly like the original - I actually prefer the dub because of the variety of the voice actors, particularly Heero, Quatre, and Trowa). This is a show already aimed at young people in Japan that's been dumbed down to the point where the original storyline is almost entirely lost. There's a reason most of these shows will never be sold in Japanese in the US - the story is entirely different in the original. Touya/Yuki and Haruka/Michiru should make this very clear - there's no such thing as gay romance in US kiddi-shows, you know. Violence? Only if they're laughing and playing all the way through so there's never a single moment where the baby watching the show might feel an emotion parents don't approve of.
I like Japanese versions because I do know enough to tell what they're saying without subtitles. I watched Digimon without subs, so don't tell me I'm just being tricked by the subbers. Same thing for Yu Yu Hakusho (3 yrs before it came here) - I know what the original said because I listened to what they said. I know *exactly* how much the dub (and the sub!) screwed up the characters and dialogue.
I also like the way Japanese voices sound, aesthetically pleasing (like watching soap operas in Spanish - I like foreign language shows). But that has nothing to do with watching the original story as apposed to the baby-dummified-fox-7 version. I'm 26 yrs old. I don't need to have two female characters turned into cousins so their romantic relationship won't traumatize me for life.
So, yeah, I have my reasons. I don't automatically assume the Japanese is better unless I'm pretty sure it *has* to be better. For Shaman King, even if I only saw one mutilated dub episode, I knew it had to be better because it couldn't get any worse. :(

anime, vids

So I finally got around to watching amvhell3. Is it just me, or did they repeat a lot of the best jokes from the last one? I could swear I'd seen half the video before and I know this is the first time I've downloaded and watched part 3. Also an awful lot of that azuma-thingy anime. There were some really unusual anime used in the vid, but most of it looked like it was the same pig-tailed little girl and her friends, like it's an azuma-etc video with a few other sources sprinkled in for variety. Maybe it was just too long and they ran out of people who edited to anime besides the azumadiaoh (???) one. I know it's very popular for comedy vids. I'll have to get around to watching it someday to see what the deal is. The flying removable pigtails do look like they'd be funny the first time around. And I've been wanting to see the cat-girl get bit (blame sarahtheboring for that one ;p). Overall, it was fun, just not as much variety as I expected in an hour long video composed entirely of shorts by different editors.
I scanned through Sailor Stars today. I haven't gotten a chance to actually watch the arc, but I rooted it for footage and paused on the interesting parts. They really went all out with the Haruka/Michiru pairing - very funny and enjoyable. I still don't like the cute 'token guys' being girls in disguise. Why not just make them gay? Two of them weren't even pretty as girls (or guys, but that's a given). The white-haired one was the only one with a pretty face, the other two looked like classic stereotypical dykes. Haruka was still pretty when she dressed as a guy, no reason they couldn't make the starlights (who actually have male bodies half the time) look pretty as girls and guys (instead of being ugly as both). I just don't get what happened there. Other than the ugly character design for two supposedly gorgeous teen idols (slash transgendered scouts), the storyline was fun. Lots of pretty nudity toward the end, too, which is always better if the naked girl has wings. ;p
Watched Tokyo Mew Mew. I only caught a few eps in English, but I bet they really cut a lot out of the last part of the series - lots of SM-style nudity in there. Guy nudity, even! ;p Pretty boy magical transformations are so rare these days. If I can find a suitable song, I'm definitely doing a vid with the bishonen from this series. I'll leave the cutsey loli catgirls to the perves, they should be all over them by now.
I don't know if I wrote about it here, but I watched season 2 of Digimon in Japanese. It's okay. I like Ken (after the emperor, not so much before). I might do a vid for it sometime, just to catch the season 1 cast as older teens. Right now I'm planning to watch Shaman King. I caught an episode of the dub once and it was way too obvious that they threw random jokes in to ruin what would have been a serious dramatic scene - I took that to be the way they ruined the entire series so I never watched it again. I expect the Japanese version will be much better.

writing ops
2006-02-10 03:57:30
Yeah, it's fun. ^ ^
I'm not writing nearly as much as I used to, which may be why it's fun again. I think I got to the point where I felt guilty if I wrote less for one video than I did for another. Some vids just make me want to gush about everything, others I want to knitpick, and then I get the great edited ones I just don't like enough to ever watch again and I don't feel like rewatching it in order to write an op at all - not much point if all I say is "you got skill, wish you were making vids for my tastes instead of your own." Yeah, like that's feedback.
In other news, I had a 3-hr mess trying to get an mp4 vid to play on my computer. I ended up reinstalling vlc player (never reinstalled it after my computer wipe-out last year). I don't really see the benefit and I'm not going to enjoy having to use a separate player any time I run across one of those. I know the guides say it's the 'new xvid', but I like the 'old xvid' just fine. Come on, tech guys, if it's not broken leave it alone, will ya? Or at least wait a year or two until they tinker with it so it's more compatible. I still get complaints for using xvid - can you imagine what the mp4 people are getting? o.O
/vid plans
I have a new idea that might actually go somewhere. It's a multi-anime, so it'll take a few weeks to get all the footage gathered. But I'm pretty sure I'll actually make it when I'm done, so it's all good. ^_^

new vid
2006-02-06 01:14:20
So, yeah, three days isn't long to make a video, but I got in a good 18hrs the first day and it didn't take long to rip the footage. I used Dangaizer 3, of which I only have two dvds. I only watched the anime once since it was mostly big breasted girls showing their skin every five (or less) minutes. My first reaction was why the heck they gave this series away as prizes at yaoi-con (2004). There is a hint between the two guys (the only real guys in the entire series, mind you), but it looks more one-sided than anything, and it only lasts about one minute in one episode. Anyway, it's a magical girl using a big mecha anime, but the excessive and shameless nudity flashes help make it different from clean things like Magic Knight Rayearth. There's also strong hints of yuri and a dash of pedophilia in just the right places. ^_^;; Honestly, if I hadn't been given the first two dvds, I never would have touched this series. I'm not surprised it doesn't have many (any) vids here. I did expect some of the guys to have picked it up for the big breasted girls and the gorgeous animation (plus maybe the yuri, since some guys find that hot, too).
I did a search and there's like 5 videos with 'dangaizer' in the anime list, none using just Dangaizer. So, yeah, automatic originality for the anime and the song (neither the song nor the artist are listed). I'm hoping that'll make up for the complete lack of originality in the content of the video. It's a random action vid, after all. At least, it was *supposed* to be a random action vid. I ended up dropping the 'how to do action sync' guide when the music really picked up. Like I said in my last entry, when I enjoy the video I default to editing the way I'm used to. Still, it's a shoujo action/dance vid with a few splashes of girl on girl action. I could have picked a worse medium to play with. And I like it. ^_^;; I wasn't expecting to, and there are parts that are way too fast and chaotic for my taste, but the song and the second half make up for that. I actually found the action sync guide interesting - I didn't flash to black or change scenes for every single drum beat (the only two possibilities for that instrument), but I did make sure to do something for them in the first half. It was a good experiment, and the end result is still enjoyable for me.
I'm going to list it in my profile. I still think the song would suit a few of my favorite shounen anime (it's made for guys, I'm sure of it). But I don't think I'll ever get around to making one, so it doesn't matter if I used it for this vid. I'm not putting it on local, though. I don't think the nudity is against the rules since it's only sexual if you're a hornball jerking off to the screen - contextually it's just plain old nudity. Still, better safe than sorry. ^ ^
