Seen the idea pop up recently. Figured it was only a matter of weeks after the Yuri MEP came out. Feel oddly threatened at the very thought of it.
When I think of yaoi amvs on the org, I think of a few editors. Me. Anneke. Kumagarou. Loveable Neko Kyo. Fungie 1/2. SarahtheBoring. Staces. Yorae.
There's more, but now that I look at their profiles they don't actually *make* yaoi amvs. Maybe I think of them because they watch yaoi amvs, or because they posted in the inevitable "YAOI???" threads that popped up in GenAmv, defending the 'genre' from being trashed just for existing here (even though it really didn't, there were maybe 4 people making yaoi vids at the time, and two of them never stepped foot on the forums, anyway).
Now there's a lot of shounen ai series licensed in the US. It's not just Gravi and Yami, with a few rare Ai no and Boku wa on indirect link, anymore. It's everywhere! There are more yaoi Naruto videos than there are for YYH, and damnit all, we went from having 20 downloadable YYH videos to having most of the YYH vids on the org be yaoi/slash for about a year after I joined up. Now everywhere you look, any canon non-yaoi anime you can think of, there's yaoi/slash/shonen ai vids for them. Everything! Digimon. Shaman King. Yugioh. Harry Potter (omg don't get me started on Harry Potter vids on the org, it's not even anime and we get the yaoi ones). Nothing is safe. No one's scared to defile, desecrate, the most butch of shounen anime. There are actually yaoi DBZ videos here. Yeah. I nearly got my head chewed and twisted off when I did one (my only one, mind you). Now it's no big deal. Just stupid teenybopper fans who make whatever the hell they want and aren't worthy paying attention to. Not worth it. That means there's too many of them! There's a "them" here. Yaoi vid-makers. When did that happen???????
I feel old. There's no nitch anymore. They're common place. Accepted. Ignored. The old names I expected to pop up when the topic comes up aren't here anymore. They aren't needed. Been replaced. By hordes. I know you hear all the time about the org growing, but I figured it was just the IY/Kagome fans and the NarutoballZ fans. When did all the yaoi fans get here? And since when did they talk about it in the open like it's okay and there's no fear of having your ass chewed by an outraged and disgusted and morally indignant fanboy horde?
Just a little threatened. When I first came I latched onto Loveable Neko Kyo as my inspiration because she made vids for whatever pairings she wanted and never paid any attention to the forum or flames (did she even get flames?). I wanted to be like Anneke with a video everyone knows, if they're any kind of yaoi fan at all, and the nerve to come onto the forum and post and not feel ostrasized because we're all just amv fans when you get down to it.
Now there's the idea of a Yaoi MEP being made and none of the names I think of when I think of yaoi on the org will be participating. Not one. Well, maybe Staces - posted recently, she's still here, very very happy to see that. Sarah might, but somehow I doubt it. She never struck me as the MEP sort, not as far as yaoi goes. It's the same reason I never thought a yaoi mep was something that *could* work on the org. The yaoi vidmakers were few and far between and maybe one out of the 10 of them were the kind who could work well with others.
Now they're everywhere. And I'm not one of them. What the hell am I, then? I'm like having an identity crisis here. I should be happy that it's not an underground nitch in the vid hobby, sneaking in one at a time and scurrying around in the dark like cockroaches. Maybe I am happy, I've got this giggling wincing laugh thing going when I think about it. But it's not me. I'm still a cockroach. lmao. Oh, god.
Keh. I can't stop laughing. Shit. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
Serious now. I can't wait to see this Yaoi MEP in its finished form. I want to look at the reactions it gets and see whether anyone responds to it besides the people who took part in the project. And the idea of having a long video chock full of various yaoi pairings is like a dream. Wet dream. Yeah. And I won't have to do a thing to get it besides click that download button. Talk about convenience.
Better be some Kurama/Hiei in there, though. You just know Sasuke/Naruto will make it in, so it's only fair. ;p

Yeah, getting fined for going over my bandwidth allotment would suck. I think I checked an option that would cut me off if I went too high, but on second look I can't find it anywhere in the agreement.
What I'm really looking for? An excuse to get the next package. ^_^; If I went over the allotment, that would mean I need more than the amount of bandwidth I have now. Then I wouldn't be buying even more bandwidth when I don't use a fraction of what I have right now.
It's like this. For 500 mbs more disc space, it's $5 more a month. That's just buying disc space. I want more disc space. For the next package (space + bandwidth) it's 2gigs more disc space and 200gigs more bandwidth for $6 more a month. Absolutely ridiculous. Makes no sense.
I'm probably going to end up getting the next package just to get more disc space. It just drives me nuts to think I'll be buying even more unused bandwidth.
Maybe I'll just picture my site up with a lot of high resolution graphics, toss in a few flash demos by the vids, and make it more of a bandwidth whore.I'm still back in the days when two 1mb high quality wallpapers could knock the entire site offline every other hour of the day. -

Hm...used 24gigs on my site last month. I've gotta find a way to use a heck of a lot more than that to make it worth the monthly payments.
Right now I have like 1/4 my vids on direct link, but the most popular ones (downloads) are still on local. Even with the direct link there, people are more likely to click the local instead. I can't figure out why. You can use download accellerators on the direct links. You can resume no matter what browser you're using. It's just more time efficient to use direct links to download when you know it's the exact same copy on both.
I went through 70gigs on the org last month. Now, there's no way I can host all my vids on my site - I get like this tiny bit of file space compared to the bandwidth in my package. But it doesn't make sense! I was told it's the bandwidth that costs the most for the org. So why is it when I go to upgrade my site, the next package has 500mbs more space and 200gigs more bandwidth per month? I just want the file space! If I had the space, I could host enough vids to maybe actually *use* the bandwidth I'm paying for.
Meh. I wanna take Ego Trip off local. The direct link gets a good number of downloads, but it would get a lot more if that local link wasn't there. And even as old as that vid is, it's still one of the ones sucking the most bandwidth from the org each month. I don't want to have to think up an excuse to get it off local, either. I just want to ask nicely and have them agree to save themselves some money and let me rely entirely on my own hosting. That vid alone - if it were only available by direct download - would use as much bandwidth as my entire website is using each month right now. And it still wouldnt' make a dent on the 200gigs per month I get in my package.
Seriously make me wish I were hosting fansubs or something that would get a billion downloads for one file. I like the fact that I never have to worry about my site going offline now (used to go offline every few days on the free package), but I hate paying for something that's not being used. And then donating because I can't make people stop downloading the local file on this site and get the direct one on my site instead. What a waste of money for everyone involved.
And I'm just one person. It makes me wonder how much bandwidth the org would save if they let a few people (me!) host their own over-downloaded-and-old-as-crap videos instead of locking them on local for eternity.

Some of my videos are on a Japanese video website. ;p
I'm sure that's not a big deal to other people, but to me it's hilarious. I can't read a word the people are saying about them, but my name is in the tags for the videos, so I guess I'm being given credit as the creator somewhere in those Japanese symbols. ^_^;; What's funniest is it *looks* like a site featuring Prince of Tennis videos - the live action music videos, and then three of my amvs. If there's more amvs linked somewhere on there, I can't find them. It's just awesome. I've had French sites link to my site with translations to some of my fics, and I've found my fanwork all over the place in Spanish and Portuguese sites (I can read that). But Japanese. That's like getting a nod from the home country there. Pft. ;p
I guess there aren't any tenipuri mads for them to go crazy over. Not many tenipuri vids at all. I knew there weren't many here, but I figured the Japanese fans would be all over that. There's as many fans of tenipuri as there are English fans of cartoon network shows like YYH and IY. It's been going forever and it's still huge over there. I'm still thinking if it ever gets licensed (rumors say it's getting there), the English-speaking fans will come out of the woodwork. It's such a fangirl anime. Dozens of pairable bishies and a plot that draws you along without getting bored of the sport (rare). Plus the crack. Ah, gotta love tenipuri crack. ;p
Yeah. That made my...erm...morning. ^^; The vids featured? My Tezuka/Fuji vid to Chemicals Between us (I wonder if they dubbed it as slash, I really do), my Fudomine vid, and one of my multi-anime vids (a yaoi one! Guilty Pleasure!). I guess Japanese tenipuri fans are just like your US fangirls. Yaoi-friendly. Hah! Take that fanboys who griped at me about how Tezuka and Fuji aren't gay. Nya~
