My thoughts on the great wmv/avi/forum comments debate:
First, let me preface by saying that while I've been editing for almost a year now, my year anniversary with the org isn't until October...O.O
Anywho, my first vids were not announced in the forums...mostly because in my own n00bishness, I didn't realize one could do that. Other main reason being that I didn't really want that attention right out of the gate. I had enough self-confidence issues. lol
I didn't announce a video until this year - Someday was the first. It's in avi format. It got zero replies.
The second was The Mark of My Sins. It is in avi format as well. It got one reply - from Judge. But, to be fair, Judge and I had struck up a friendship by this time, and he had also beta'd the vid.
My next vid to get announced was Dare To Be Anime, just last month. In the time between "Mark" and "Dare," I had worked on the JJMEP and struck up more friendships with people such as Jub, Katie, Rina, Shino, Scoob...so when I made the announcement for "Dare," all those people ('cept for Scoob - you whore, j/p) posted in the thread. I also got a couple of posts from other editors that I *didn't* know, which was a welcomed surprise. That vid, btw, is also in avi format. That was the first thread that actually got more than one response.
None of my vids have ever been in wmv format. And I've never used WMM as a program. I started with Ulead Video Studio 9, and continue to use that program (though I've now upgraded it to Ulead Video Studio 10 Pro) because it's user friendly and offers me many options that a lot of the more basic programs do not. This program does have the option of rendering a vid as a wmv, but when I tried that with my first video, I was not at all impressed with the quality of either the visual or the sound. My first experiments with codecs were to render SVCD MPG2s...which really screwed with a lot of people's compies...wierd resolutions and such. Then I wised up and read the guides and learned how to render with XVid, and things are so much better now. :D
So where does my rambling take us? lol...not sure. I think the point I'm trying to get to is that I really think my getting involved with other editors and activities on the org had a direct influence on the number of replies and views my thread got. I'm op'ing more vids, signing my QCs, replying to other people's threads...what goes around, comes around. :) I don't think it had anything to do with the format of the videos, or the quality of the videos...the other thing to consider is the old "tip jar" theory. Surely you've seen performing artists or bartenders with a "tip jar" on the bar...they're never empty...they always have at least a dollar or such in the bottom. Why? Because no one wants to be the first to put money in an empty jar. People tend to put money in if money's already there. I think the same goes for announcement threads. I don't think I would have attracted the responses from the editors I didn't know personally if several of the editors in my circle didn't post first. Just a theory...
And as for formats...I like avi's. I like the sound and visual quality and the fact that I can compress them now without trouble. It will probably be my preferred method of internet distribution from here on out. For cons, I use full quality MPG2 all the way with uncompressed PCM audio. However, I do want to point out that I don't discriminate against those who use WMM or make wmv formatted vids...I too have seen some truly great gems...and I've also seen a lot of crap. And to be fair, I've also seen a lot of avi formatted vids that were crap. When I dl, I dl based on the anime/music combo, unless it's from someone I know. And I tend to skip vids with "I made this in 3 hours!" in the description...just because I don't think I've ever found one with that stated that was worth .02.
So, yeah...that's me and my take on it...
Ladies and Gentlemen...I give you...the longest journal entry in the history of my journal entries! lmao :P

Horrific?? LMAO...if you want the definition of "horrific" - watch anything I made in 2005...those vids *might* just make your eyes bleed.
If you want "horrific" as in "I meant to make it BAD" - I suggest AMV Torture...which now has a Megaupload link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9D2C5BMZ
But if you actually want to watch a serious attempt from me at AMV making...pick from the 3 that I made in '06 (Mark of My Sins, Someday or Dare To Be Anime). None of them are horror genre...but they're the ones that might not make you cringe and run crying to your mother because of the pain you've just experienced...lol
And I'm not afraid...after all...I still have to op your concert vid, after all. Muahahahahaha! :P

Beth - lol, thanks for the QC! I'm tickled that it made you laugh that much. ;)
Sub0 - no worries, man. Honestly, I registered with them, but I'm a little leery of posting my vids on YouTube. Mostly because of the legality...I know a lot of people do, and have no problems...but since that site has increased so much in popularity, and is so mainstream, the chances of the RIA or whatever organization finding my schiznite and cracking down on me and other creators I think is heightened. Personally, I'd rather have them hosted here, on a site that is fan-based and maintained and dedicated to AMVs ONLY. People have to know what they're looking for to stumble on AMV.org...whereas on YouTube, anyone browsing could come across an AMV and contact the authorities or something similar...and then we'd have Evanescence/Creed all over again, ya know?
I'm pretty much over it now, really. I'll deal with this kid in due time (assuming he ever responds...if he doesn't, I'll just leave a comment). But I do want to say "thanks" to those that have either contacted him or left a comment themselves. I appreciate the support, but I want to emphasize that I'm not begging *anyone* to do *anything.* Yes, the situation ticked me off, and yes, I ranted about it, cried over it and made myself into a rather large drama queen, for which I apologize.
And on a completely different note...
I think this is the year of weddings for me. I have yet ANOTHER wedding to go to tomorrow, as well as a bridal shower, then 2 more weddings in August! I have successfully dodged all bouquet throws up until now...lmao
And I ordered a new monitor...this one I'm going to duct tape down to the desk to prevent any more "cat"astrophies...it should be here tomorrow, so hopefully I can put my Yuri clip together this weekend and then start harvesting for my Yaoi vids.
Busy...I'm just too freakin' busy...and Judge says he's bored...I'd throw panties at him, but he'd be expecting that by now...lol...I'll have to find some other new way of shocking and amusing him. :P
Laters Peeps!
