mftoon
2006-03-23 08:10:13
Well, I think I've given up on using mftoon since, even on my new rig, it takes so long to encode anything. IMO, the results are still somewhat better than my initial trials with FastLineDarken and Warpsharp together, but not worth the 4 hour encode for a 4 minute 30 second video. FLD and WS took about 30 minutes, iirc, maybe less. And the quality is just about as good, although I still need to play with the settings to get a result I'm fully satisfied with.
Anyways, my first video is in the can. Time for it to make the convention circuit and later, for distro on the .org.

Math problem

The same problem as the previous one, just the numbers are different.
"Three guys walk into a hotel, and they're going to split the cost of a room. The room is $30. They each kick in $10 and head up to their room. The manager gets wind of it and tells the clerk the room is only $25. He hands five $1 bills to the bell hop and tells him to go refund the guys' money. On the way up to the room, the bell hop gets to thinking, as bell hops are wont to do, and says to himself, "No way they can split $5 over three guys, I'm going to help out." He stuffs $2 in his pocket, knocks on the door, gives each guy back a buck and heads back downstairs to the desk, glowing in the warmth of a job well done. So now each guy has paid $9. $9 x 3 is $27 plus the two the bell hop stole - only $29! Where is the other buck?
Good luck... "
The problem most people run into is that you need to solve this problem with the correct algebra.
It is (((25 / 3) + 1) * 3) + 2 = ((8.33~ + 1) * 3) + 2 = (9.33~ * 3) +2 = 28 + 2 = 30.
Not ((10 -1) * 3) + 2 = (9 * 3) +2 = 27 + 2 = 29.
Each guy paid $8.33~ (25 / 3) for the room (the numbers don't divide neatly so bear with me). They got back $1 each. Add that back to what each guy paid and you get $9.33~. Multiply by 3 guys, you get $28 (rounded up). Plus the $2 from the bell hop, you get $30.

Maybe

Is it just me, or the lack of sleep? I feel like leaving weird QCs on the videos I watch. I haven't yet. Well, maybe I have. I finished watching silver_moon's new video and left a QC that upon reflection is a little weird. Don't get me wrong, I liked the video.
Must be lack of sleep. But I need to finish watching Chrono Crusade. Dammit...
As a side note, my first AMV is done, re-mastered, re-edited, and just waiting after Kawaii-Kon to upload here since the version that is being shown there is somewhat different from this final version. I also need to work on bumpers and possibly make an animated studio logo segment for the final disto version.

And so it begins...

Well, since the new computer seems to be running fine, I started finishing and fine tuning my first AMV. Well, actually I sent a rough version to the fine folks at Kawaii-Kon, but I still don't consider it finished. I really wanted to enter something and the deadline was fast approaching, so... :(
Initially, this AMV started out on WMM2.1 on another computer. Unfortunately, I don't have that computer anymore, but I managed to save the last DV-AVI and HuffYUV exports on a DVD-R. From these I created a MPEG2 and sent that off to Georgia. They were kinda rough, with orphan frames and slight de-sync midway through. I hope it doesn't look too amateurish.
The clips I made with VirtualDubMod couldn't make the transition because they were to large to save resonably. So the old project files would be useless. That meant I needed new source footage. This time I decided to make fake AVIs to edit with to save on harddrive space. Also, I plan to use this anime again later for a series of AMVs so having access to entire episodes is an advantage. Because of this, I decided to restart my project in Magix MEP10. The learning curve in Magix MEP10 is higher than WMM, but I love the precision and flexibility of a true NLE program.
The WMM version is a pretty simple video with basic cuts, fades, and a few parts using an "old black and white movie" effect. I think there isn't a "old movie" effect in MEP10 so I probably will have to do something to replace it or try to recreate the effect. In about 2 days, it is about 60% done. Not bad progress for myself.
Although, in hindsight, I think I should have used something else than the song title as the title of the AMV when I submitted it to Kawaii-Kon. I wonder if it's ok to rename it when I complete the final version?

I tried stalking koop, but he's a sneaky guy...
Anyways, once I get my new comp up and running and finish my AMVs, you can leave weird, er... wonderful QCs on my AMVs too!
