  • A New Project in the works.... FINALLY! 2009-05-17 16:55:28 I've started working once again on a new amv project I've conjured up in the past week or so. It's going to involve the a fore mentioned anime in my previous post. Although I may have to wait until I get back to the states before I finish it, due to the fact there are some scenes I want to use, but don't have the appropriate raw for it. Of course I'm talking about the final episode, which I can't download from here due to my bandwidth restrictions and the inability to use torrents here in Iraq.

So as of right now, I'm storyboarding my amv. I want this one to be my absolute best to date... which shouldn't be too hard, since my others suck in comparison to a lot of the very talented editors on this site
  • Huzzah! 2009-05-16 01:33:17 Kudos for me,

I send in a response for "Hey AnswerFan!" on AnimeNewsNetwork on my thoughts of School Days. I was surprised to see it was actually posted. Check it out if you'd like:

  • Dreams you don't want to have... 2009-05-12 12:40:41 A couple night ago, I had that type of dream you hope never comes true. This one felt pretty real, which is just weird to begin with, since I don't ever feel like I dream or at least I don't ever remember what I dream. But I think being physically and emotionally drained on top of our decreasing time left here in Iraq contributed to my dream. Anywho, let me set up the plot...

Upon arrival back in the states, we are released to our families for a 72 hour pass. For some reason, the next day, everyone is recalled back to the unit and we're told to bring our gear. Once we get there, they start distributing ammo and our assigned weapons and have us load up buses. On the bus ride our Platoon Leader and Sergeant begin briefing us that we are heading to the Fayetteville Regional Airport, but give us no indication of what's going on, we're told to be on the look out for anything "suspicious."

Usually, being ambiguous is a normal thing with our unit, but we're on American soil, so already it's tripping me out. All the squad leaders, including myself, attempt to inquire more, but they tell us this is all they know and as soon as they get more info, they'll tell us.

Once we get to the airport, each squad is assigned an area of responsibility. Like in a movie, my dream zips us ahead to my squad and I on the tarmac watching the luggage being downloaded from the plane and lined up on the ground for inspection. As this was going on, a gentleman wearing a suit is dragging a rather large bag on wheels heading towards an unmarked car. He looks like he could be FBI, CIA, or any other agency with three initials. But our orders were to inspect everything coming off any of the planes.

So at this point, I instruct two of my Soldiers to stop the man and search his bag. The man had already loaded the bag into the trunk of the car when the Soldiers reached him and asked him to step back. As one of the Soldiers reached for the bag, he heard something moving inside of it and as he turns around to face the man in the suit, attempting to raise his weapon to the low ready, the man fires a round into his chest.

As I turn around to the noise, I witness the other Soldier shoot the man and cry out the wounded Soldier's name, that's when I wake up in a panicked state, sweating. The kind of abrupt wake up that has your heart going a mile a minute. Turns out I was sweating a lot because the A/C had gone out.

I shared the story with my Soldiers involved in the dream and we ended up just poking fun at it. But in all reality, it's something I hope never happens.
  • Rock Band Music Video 2009-04-29 03:02:31 During our free time here in Iraq, we occasionally get together and play some Rock Band and end up waking up those that are on their sleep cycle, getting a few complaints and what not, all for the sake of having some fun. We ended up recording a few of our "sets" that we played. And one of my friends that knows I do AMVs asked for me some help on editing this video, so I showed him a few things I had learned with Vegas Pro 8 and after a while, this is what he came up with... ENJOY!

P.S. - Keep in mind, due to our bandwidth limitations here in Iraq, I had to severely compress the video in order to upload it up on youtube, so the quality is horrendous.
  • Earth Day Half-Marathon 2009-04-22 04:09:04 I'm not what you would consider a marathon running by no means, but I do enjoy running the occasional 3 to 5 mile runs with my running buddy and my step-dad (who by complete coincidence, got deployed to the same place in Iraq with me).

Back in last year, my step-dad brought the idea of running the Army Ten Miler in Iraq to my attention, I wasn't thrilled about it, but i firgured why not. That was back on the 5th of October 2008. I finished that run in 1 hour and 23 mins, a mere 8 mins and 18 secs per mile average, it was impressive to me since that was my furthest run EVER at that point. Of course, running this openned pandora's box, becuase a few months later, my step-dad suggests, "Hey! There's a half-marathon coming up, lets do it!"

Now thinking to myself, a marathon is 26.2 miles, half that, you got 13.1. I pretty sure I can handle the extra 3 miles. Our train up for this one was pretty intense, we ran every other day running around 10 miles every other training day and the eliptical machine for 45 mins on the other days. Just about killed me, but I did manage to log over 250 total miles ran in Iraq to join the 250 Mile Club at the gym here, so that's a plus.

Anywho, fast forward to today, 22nd of April 2009, Earth Day. We started our half-marathon journey in the desert of Iraq over a mixutre of dirt, loose gravel and rocks. I didn't reach my goal of 1 hour and 45 mins, but I did finish, my time was 1 hour and 52 mins, putting me at an average of 8 and a half mins per mile. So much Kudos to me!
