Blade of the Immortal
2009-06-02 11:58:15
I finally got around to finishing this series, which is surprising due to the fact that this is my all-time favorite manga series. I was super excited to see it animated... unfortunately, it turned out to be only a 13 episode deal. What that means is for those of you who haven't read the manga, you miss out on one heck of a story. even more unfortunate is the manga is still on going and the 13 episode run just barely scratch the top of this iceberg of a plot. Plus, they had to condense what they did animate, in order to fit what they did cover, cheating you out on important character developments. And the ending, let just say nothing is resolved and you could probably walk right through the storyline... THAT HOW BIG THE PLOT HOLES ARE COMPARED TO THE MANGA!
I just have to say, if you've given any thought to wanting to watch it and you haven't read the manga. Stop now, don't bother, just head on over to Barnes and Noble, FYE, amazon.com or where you may get your manga fix, and read it
You can even check out the differences in popularity on ANN:

K-ON and Eden of the East
2009-05-30 05:06:36
K-ON and Eden of the East have been two animes I've been dying to see, ever since I had read some reviews done on them a couple months ago on animenewsnetwork.com
But due to my slow internet and not wanted to waste any DVDs through snail mail (my wife was willing to burn them and send them to me). I had decided, I'll just wait until I get back to the states to watch them. Well, turns out my connectile dysfunction has been cured upon arriving in Camp Arifjan and I've been able to download these two shows.
First off, K-ON... I don't know why, but for some reason slice of life animes dealing with cutesy high school girls (Azumanga and Lucky Star) really grab a hold on me. Which is why I love K-ON. I mean it's got your typical formulas for this genre, such as your "care-free girl" complete with the responsible sister, the "stern but very shy smart girl," the "I'm rich, but don't let that get in the way" girl and of course the "loud obnoxious" girl, but if you're into this type of stuff like I am, you're sure to enjoy this show. Plus, it's about starting a band and making music, which is also cool ^__^
Now, Eden of the East... I've only caught one episode and they've already made two in show references to Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver and Jason Bourne, just to let you know what type of show this is. You can consider our main hero to be a more happy-go-lucky Jason Bourne (seeing how this guy has lost his memory, except he hasn't killed anyone... in episode 1 at least). But the show keeps your attention on the sheer fact that you WANT to know WHAT'S GOING ON!?!?!
Let me put it this way... the show starts off with the heroine attempting to throw a penny in the fountain in front of the white house causing a misunderstanding with the police, the hero shows up to save the day holding a cell phone in one hand and a pistol in the other... and completely naked! That right there was enough to keep me watching just to find out WTF!?!?!
Anywho, I completely recommend these two shows, I actually interrupted another series I was watching just to watch them. ^__^

Kuwait
2009-05-28 15:40:30
I recently volunteered for a position as a Unit Movement Officer as our time in Iraq has been dwindling down. And it sure did pay off! I actually got selected over more senior Staff Sergeants in my Unit for the job, but the best part of this is getting out of Iraq and going to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
The commodities provided here are top notch, first of all, there are actual paved roads and we get to live in actual buildings! No tents, no pods, I'm talking concrete and real tiles! The internet connection (and this is my favorite) is far superior compared to what I had back in Iraq. I mean, I can actual connect to a torrent now and play online games again!
This may not sound like much to many people, but after being without these things I've taken for granted for the past 14 months now, it's nice to feel like I'm back among the civilized world ^_^
Did I mention I got to see a movie (non a haji bootleg version either) in an actual movie theater! Tomorrow, I'm going to hit up a few geocaches (www.geocaching.com) and I think I'll go swimming after my run. So many things to do!

Marathon Promotion Board
2009-05-26 02:03:53
Had to take my Soldier to a promotion board and because of the time it took place, had to end up pulling an all nighter. Bottom line, I just got back from the board and I've been up for 25 hours straight and have to be at work in 3 hours. It's the Army life for me and I love my job! =)
