Zonk! is the most beautiful term ever coined by the Army.
(in the tradition of Army story telling, I have to begin my next statement with the following...)
True story, no shit, there I was...
So I woke up this morning, at 0345 (3:45am for you civilians lol), like I do every morning and start getting ready for Physical Training (PT), brushing my teeth, shaving, getting dressed. Watched a little bit of TV before heading out at around 0415 and as I get to the entrance of the hotel, a heavy downpour begins. I'm talking like the parking lot almost immediately started to flood. Now it had already been raining here, but only a slow drizzle before this point.
Now, back in Ft. Bragg, it doesn't matter what the weather is like, we're still going to conduct PT (which is what is going through my mind).
So, I continue on to my car and drive out to the PT field where we form up for accountability. At 0445, I look at our PT field and of course, it's flooded. So once again, I'm thinking to myself, "This is going to suck."
At 0500 is when it happened. Our student First Sergeant, gave the command of "ZONK!"
If you've been in the Army for a minute, you have at least heard of the term Zonk, even if you've never experienced it. Prior to this in my 10 years of service, I've only ever had one other Zonk. But it's basic meaning is an echo of your leadership's desire to say "Fuck this shit, let's go home, I'll see you at work." So as soon as I heard it, I didn't wait for clarification, sprinted to my car, and headed back to my hotel room.
So hopefully, the rest of the day will be as good as this morning. ^__^ - subs 2009-10-24 21:07:08 well, just realized that Yawara doesn't have any subs of any sort (DVD or Fan Sub) past episode 57. But I did find out, how much I can understand on the continuation of the story on bits and pieces of japanese >.< though that doesn't help me out during the long convos ;__;

it's done, and I found I scored a 94% and it seems some people who were already out of the running for Honor Grad due to failing their Fitness Test at the beginning of the course are now back in the running due to a new Army Policy eliminating the Fitness Test on courses shorter than 8 week... WHICH I THINK IS BULL SHIT!!!
What this means, is now those who don't embody the "Total Soldier Concept" now get a free pass and have a chance of taking Honor Grad away from those of us who passed our Fitness Test.
"I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient." is what the Creed of the Non-Commissioned Officer states. So I'm just going to have to keep pushing and studying and try to pull ahead on the next test as well as our tactical evaluations down the road. -

I dislike reading... not really... okay... so I hate reading Army Regulations, Field Manuals, Technical Manuals, and similar publications... I say that because that's the situation I'm in now.
But I'll have to see about picking that up to occupy my time when I fly to Japan =p
In other news... I have another exam tomorrow >.< - urges... 2009-10-22 05:18:01 me wants to watch Hitch Hiker's Guild to the Galaxy again... >.<
