JOURNAL: Xombie (Sam Shults)

  • Wai!!!! 2002-02-05 23:38:31 I got a nomination for my Noir video! Nominated as Best First Video!!! Up against Phade and the rest I have a snowball's chance in hell of winning but still...

But... but... no dreddnott or turboneko?! Gahhhhh!!!!!
  • Machiavellian in nature 2002-02-02 05:58:24 Things are going well. I've been working hard in my new timing position at Soldats. If any of you watch Shaman King (eps 10-12) or Rave (9-10, 13) or Hajime no Ippo (23) and Hikaru no Go (unreleased ep 11) then look for me as the timer on the project. I'm also on another project but I can't say what it is :p Shaman King and that other project are mine but I help out other series on occasion. Give me a yell if you watch them :)

In other news... I'm going to resume work on my next amv this weekend. I'll see how that goes.

And it seems like I'm doing my part to make the world a better place - I nominated dreddnott in 1 or more categories so if he offs himself for winning something then I can stand proud and say I helped.

I'm very curious to see how the contest prelims turn out.
  • A Small Update 2002-01-21 02:15:23 Because of my duties with Soldats as their timer, work and some family issues I had to leave Random Variable Productions. I didn't want to stay in a studio if I couldn't give 100% to it. I'll still make amvs but I don't know the amount of time I'll have for them just yet. This is sad for me because just as I was leaving the studio seemed to be working on several good new projects. I got the chance to peep at Adiamante's work in progress and even though it's in "beta" stage I was very impressed. I noted though his FFIX video that he had some damn good editing skills and I already see it again in the small clip I was able to watch. Good luck to the crew in the future.

I saw dreddnott's journal just now. Thanks, man. I don't expect to win anything but it's nice to know that someone thinks I'm decent enough to be nominated in something. I appreciate you saying that.

What else? As a new timer I'm trying to catch Soldats up on their late projects and have already timed 4 episodes for them, Shaman King and Rave. It's time consuming (pardon the pun) but keeps me busy. After I'm finished with timing project #5 I'll try to work on my amv. I still have this idea in mind and I'm still at the cutting stage so with a little time I might be able to make something out of it.

Oh, I also plan on doing another review soon. I figure I'm tired of seeing Omnistrata mention his video, "Full On" I believe is the name, so why not download, review and see how good it really is? I'll do that in the next couple of days.
  • Short 2002-01-13 23:01:13 1. Got "hired" as a timer for the fansub group Soldats
    2. At the cutting stage for a new amv
    3. tired

Yeah, it's lame but I'm a little out of it, sorry. I also have a return-review I have to accomplish soon since someone was nice enough to take a look at one of mine. Oh, my Noir video, edit 3, got 1000 hits finally. Not impressive to a lot people but it's a good, round number for me.

  • Itsy Bitsy Spider..... 2002-01-07 10:35:49 Well, after I noticed I was on the top 20 most useful commentator list I decided to start doing a better job at reviewing videos. I've found that it's very easy to write a lot about a video. My first video to review with this idea in mind was a peer's video in my studio. It's the first Dragonball Z video I've ever watched. I did not approach the video as, "Man, this is going to suck...." I don't like to work like that. If the video is nice and the music fits I could care less what anime is used and I won't get into arguments other how much DBZ sucks/doesn't suck. It's a matter of opinion. Personally I don't like it but I'm one in... what? 6 billion? I have no idea what the world population is.... Anyway, I also make it my mission in life to try and say something good about every video and I found I was able to do that. Granted, I wrote more in the Bad section for this particular video but it was his 2nd video. His third is much better as he's learned more about amv creation. Anyway, I've learned I just need to write down my thoughts and point out what I thought worked well and what I thought didn't work well. And rather than just saying, "I didn't like X" I would say "I didn't like X because...." Sounds easy and it is easy - you just have to have the patience to sit down and write what you think.

The other video I reviewed like this was another peer's video in my studio. Mexicanjunior's new video Liquid Petals. What a nice video. Also, and I hope he doesn't mind me saying it, he's made great improvements over his other videos. I hope I'm not coming across as being a high and mighty great amv maker (I'm certainly not) but I can tell a good video from bad. He was able to pull a good video out of a tough song and I like that.

With all that said I was able to creep up to #12 on the ladder! ^_^

Now for me. I believe I have a firm idea for a music video this time. I have a good video source (even if it's stupid HK DVDs I bought without knowing what an HK DVD was. Damn, I get all excited about finding cheap DVDs on Yahoo auction only to get them and recoil in shock at the chino-ized poor subtitles. *sigh*), a good song to use and a storyline. Now if I can just peel myself away from Victorious Boxers for the PS2.....
