Eva Opus gets awarded!!
2002-02-24 03:44:14
Just found that my Evangelion Opus video has won the Best of Show Award at Megacon today in the Contest and Convention forums, which happens to be my first convention award ever and Eva Opus's second 'Best overall video' contest award. Wow.
Feel free to check the video out! Especially to all Eva fans. The download may be big but it should be worth your time. ^_^
It's amazing how quickly the results were posted, much thanks to the very hardworking Joey Snackpants. I'll be sure to check out the other award winner's videos as well. Congrats to all.

There can be only one.

Something I should’ve done some time ago; I removed the Mindwarp Contest links for both Evangelion Opus and Parasite Must Go On. You can still get them from the orignal link to my host. Thanks to Machine for providing alternative hosting it as long as he did.

The ‘new’ TOP 10%
2002-02-20 20:13:46
Can’t we talk about a more peaceful topic that’s guaranteed not to start a fight? *ducks*
Well the Top10% list looks somewhat different compared to before it was taken down 2 months ago – including a new highest rated video and a whole bunch of new ‘previously unknown’ entries. Interesting.
Also found out that Evangelion Opus is placed at no.51 in the main list. Yaay! It also happens to be the 3rd highest placed Evangelion Video on this site(!), if I’m not mistaken, behind ‘Engel’ and ‘Numb’ (both are good videos I enjoyed too). I’m very grateful and flattered!
If you really enjoyed Evangelion, or consider yourself a Eva fan – do check the video out, for perhaps you might enjoy it too, and drop some comments (see what the others say)^_^ Thanks, thanks, thanks to all!

"1337 people have viewed your profile"
2002-02-17 05:20:51
Hey, a good number as any to mention. ^_^ Thanks people, for taking time to check my profile page and perhaps watching my videos. If you really enjoyed any one of them, do tell me about it by using the review!
Gah, DVD ripping takes forever. 7 hours for about 10 minutes, and furthermore it gobbles up HDD space like nobody's business. Not only that; since the processor runs up to like 100% utilization, there's not much else you can do for days and days, especially if you are ripping a 25 episode show + movies(!) - except maybe surfing the web with an increase in compile time - you sure can't do video editing while ripping/compiling. :(
Who says you don't need a 2Ghz pc these days?
Also I wonder how many videos will be released on Monday after Katsu and people are finally releasing all their 'secret' video projects?

If you build it, they will come, if you re-master it, will they come again?

Well time for a bigger update I guess.
I’ve since gotten my hands on a DVD for my computer so I guess my videos will be going DVD-quality from now on. I want to mention the very cool Dr.Dude who was very helpful in his time and instructions as how to rip DVD footage the right way, thanks man! This also means I now have access to more anime shows to watch as well, which is always cool. Two shows I’ve watched lately, all of Beserk (what a strange ending) and almost all of Nadesico (getting there).
Talking about DVD, I wonder if I should re-do, re-master and re-edit Evangelion Opus using DVD footage, since I’ve gotten both the TV and Movies of Eva. It’s quite a daunting task (if you’ve watched the video, you will_ know what I mean.) to re-do it since I will have to obtain ALL the footage and SYNC every single cut. x.x. Once I ran a query via premiere on Eva Opus and I got back something like (if memory serves) 600-700 edits (!). That means on average there is almost a cut every half second for 6 minutes and 17 seconds. This supports the manual scene-change count, which was like 400+. As to where the other cuts came in, as I’ve said before, even normal scenes are sometimes made out of many cuts, but they will seem seamless, not to mention all the layerings and composite shots. Example. Gendo’s smile at the end was 4 cuts joined together to get him to smile the way I wanted, even if it looks like I plopped the clip there just like that. But while it’s a lot of work, it’s a good excuse to re-release it and it’s a good choice for a re-mastering (and more improvements, and fixes). We’ll see how this goes.
Currently, I’m working on 2 videos this time at once (Both based on the same show). However they are both very different in scale, length and topic. I will probably have to hammer at it for about perhaps a week or more. Probably no one is going to believe me but the longer video of the two has taken more time than Eva Opus, due to it’s….’nature’ – which I will full explain in the video description when it’s released (don’t hold your breath though). I’ve been working at the video since December, with about a month’s break in January (partly to wait for the DVD capacity) and resuming again this month, where I have to re-time basically everything again. Call me mad.
Just a small final note, I only recently found out that Tekken Party came in 4th place overall in Zero Gravity’s AMV contest (thanks Mexican Junior!). The contest ran on for so long I actually forgot about it. Well just though I mention that.
Well, back to work for me.
