Lights out!

Hm...while I wait for other DVDs to roll in, I might as well get cracking on a video I thought of yesterday: Rurouni Kenshin OAV/Rage Against the Machine - Guerilla Radio. I want to try my hand at making a pure action vid, and I personally think RATM's and RK's political oppression/call for rebellion messages work nicely together. The only problem is, of course, disk space and memory. I'm planning on editing these at full 720x480 res, instead of the 320x240 resolution I used for Knock Down the Walls.
Don't be surprised if this video turns out to be a blatant ripoff...er, homage to "Revolution." That video gets waaaaaay too much airtime on my computer. ^_^;

Busy, busy, busy.

EK: Time zone difference between east coast and Italy is 6 hours. You can figure out what it's like between your place and there from this. ^^
I've been in Ohio for, like, three days, and I've got tons of stuff done, but not all the stuff I wanted to do. Caught up with friends, packed a few things, wrote a bit...but my current project is an ambitious one, and I'm already halfway through it. And no, it's not an AMV.
People who know me know that I have this penchant for micro-origami (or small-size origami, depending on how long ago I clipped my nails). For an example, check out http://pomi.sandwich.net/TOS00003.JPG -- that's supposed to be a crane, but the camera's several years old and I'm fairly sure it's under 2 megapixels, as well.
Anyway, my grandfather's 80th birthday is tomorrow, and I want to get this done by tonight so I can ship it out tomorrow:
80 paper cranes. Made from 1.5" squares of Post-it. (I clipped my nails, so it's a bit harder to work on micro-squares.)
I've spent the last three days (today included) working on it, and I just finished number 53 before typing this sentence. Man, it's exhausting work. The most annoying part, though, is having to tear the extra half-inch or so of adhesive/paper off the rest of the sheet, so I've got a square. It's been a long time since I've decided to do something like this.
Why the paper crane? Anyone who knows the Japanese mythos about the thousand paper cranes and the wish it grants would know. The legend became widespread after Sasaki Sadako, a victim of leukemia (I think), tried making a thousand, but died before she could. As I understand it, the thousandth was eventually made, bronzed and put in a park as a memorial to her and other victims of fallout from a bomb they never saw.
I might have the legend wrong. It's been a long time since I've read the book about her--it's one of those things I read in the third grade. But still, I like the symbolism the paper crane provides. And it's taking me real work, stuff I haven't done in ages. :P
I haven't really been able to do anything for my grandparents, and my father's been worried about my grandfather as of late. This is one thing I know I can do, so I guess I'll keep doing it.
Fifty-four. Twenty-six to go.

Blargh./Not blargh.

Three days gone by and not a single new opinion, hint hint. A first video can always use some encouraging and/or useful words (i.e. Good, bad, I DON'T CARE! as long as it's critique) from other people who've seen the vid.
Looks like I'm not schooling in Wooster anytime soon. My Committee on Academic Standards review didn't go particularly well. Luckily, I had anticipated that, and after telling my parents about my report card ("Food For Dogs and Cats?" queried Zack Morris) I enrolled in another school I had attended and left in good academic standing. The secret there: closer to home. Parents help out a lot when you're generally a slacker.
Watched Douglass Weeks' Black Heaven video yesterday. Massively waiful, and not just because it's a pure Black Heaven vid. If you liked BH (and not just for the comedy/Layla), you'll like this video, almost completely guaranteed.
Really not much else to say about now.

Whee.

Okay, done. I don't know how this is going to go around--I'm giving it to a couple of friends first, and then I'm gonna see about uploading it to Waldo's or something. There might be a direct link, an indirect one, or perhaps no link at all. ^_^; I don't really have the bandwidth for it myself, and I have no desire to keep on uploading a 60MB high-qual AMV over a connection capped at 6k/sec (luckily it's JUST an upload cap; I download at 25--bloody Swiss cable). I'm planning on entering the file at ACen, and maybe Ohayocon. Here's hoping!
If I do get the space for a link, people won't be getting the 60MB high-qual vid, but more likely the 35MB lower-qual vid. While the former is encoded as per Ermac's TMPG specs (for the most part; since I had to rip directly to AVIs at 320x240 I skipped the Inverse Telecine bit), the latter is done at 1200kbps CBR. The former's cleaner, particularly noticeable around the first chorus. That'll be the con entry, likely.
...bugger, just noticed someone else did a Trigun/OP vid. Hope I'm not treading on any toes. I guess I'm obliged to check it out. c.c;

Progress: 60% and not moving.

You'd think filling in forty-five seconds of footage would be easy. This week's lesson is that no, it's nowhere near. Everything up to the second chorus and most of the third is done, but I still have that slow section in between that isn't making itself work. -_-; (Right after the second chorus, in the area that sounds like the intro, up to just before the last "well you see the coming day catches up to you" bit.)
I'm thinking of making that section a really angsty part and making the final chorus the final action scene (as in, ep 26). Looks pretty good so far, and hopefully it stays that way. But that section...all that black space...AUGH! It's driving me nuts.
Other projects forming in my head:
Rurouni Kenshin - Butterfly (smile.dk): Scenes formed, and basic outline done. Much like my current project was when I started it out. Luckily, there isn't much in the way of dead space in this song.
Princess Nine - Parade (Garbage): I'm going to have to wait for all the discs to come in, but this idea just kind of struck me while taking a drive with my parents earlier this afternoon. I don't know exactly what it was the lyrics, "as far as I can tell, it doesn't matter who you are / if you can believe there's something worth fighting for." Hopefully, it works.
Macross Plus - Crazy Train: This was actually the first idea I ever had for a video, but I just haven't got around to making it. A re-viewing of the OAV series gave me a few more ideas for footage, but I'll hold off until I do at least the current project and the RK/Butterfly vid first.
Well, now, back to the black space. Anyone out there have inspiration they're willing to part with? I could use some right about now.
