  • Three hundred seventy fifth entry - 9005 hits... 2007-09-22 02:28:13 Time - 12:51, Noise - Collective Soul - "Heavy"

Got a video to pimp... it's really good. The first effect-heavy video that I've seen in a long time that actually utilized the effects in a coherent story. Check it out, *especially* if you don't know either source. It's actually better if both are foreign to you, since it builds its own story.

On a different topic, it's officially past the due date (in my time zone anyway) and half of my project members haven't handed in anything. I'm not surprised, but it's slightly irking me all the same. This project has been running since February. They could edit by March at the latest, due to the song mix being composed up until then. It's late September, and I had people who were still ripping clips not more than a week ago. I can't get mad, of course. I wait 'til the last minute to do stuff, too. But like I said... there's always gonna be that little irk in the back of my brain.

I would have had my Yaoi Dream Puppets stand alone segment encoded by now, except that I've become obsessed with Photoshopping one of the title images. At first, I was just doing it to give myself a pretty bumper for the first few seconds of the video, but after spending at least six hours on it, it has more or less become a project in and of itself. Essentially, it's a picture of four people on a checkerboard-ish background. I could have easily snipped out the two guys on either side and pasted them onto my own background... but I liked the pattern on the original. So instead, I snipped out the two characters in the middle and reconstructed the entire pattern, fixing the edges and removing the text - and I flipped one guy horizontally, because it bugged me that he was facing the same way as the other guy. I just need to put some text on it and I'm done with the picture now.

Anywho, I should have my stand alone up within a day or two. Shiny new h.264 encode, to boot (really only because Zarx made it so easy).

Well, I'm off. I don't think I'm going to sleep just yet. Maybe I'll get my video put together. Let it encode while I sleep or something. Doubtful, but I could.

    Nighty night, folks.

Just various videos that caught my interest for various reasons. Hope you enjoy them.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now for campus oddities and life in general...

College. The only place where you're forced to buy a crappy paperback book that can't be re-used and costs you sixty dollars. ( /me spent $88 on two books last week...)

College. Also the only place where you can walk outside and randomly hear someone shout, "Does anybody want a free trampoline~!?"

    The spiders have stalked their princess to campus. I had to deal with two in one day. ;_;

Stef lets me hug her now. She's the resident tomboy/emo girl. She must be happier this year, because now she doesn't mind me cuddling her - or talking to her more often, which I do.

Just found out less than an hour ago that my roommate smokes marijuana. *sigh* I don't approve of it, but she's a nice person, and I already said my piece on the matter.

Went in to take my quiz in Japanese today. We had been told every day so far that only a small portion would be hiragana-only. When we sat down to start, she gives the predictable, "Oh yeah - the whole quiz should be in hiragana, or you can write romaji for partial credit." Bitch. I wrote everything in syllabic romaji first, and then filled in all of the hiragana that I could remember beneath each part. I expect my grade to be quite bad, but better than many people's.

I keep getting the Spanish "un" and the French "une" crossed. Similar pronunciation, so while I'm getting the gender ID correct each time... I'm not always getting it in the right language. Phail.

Need to look up information for my required study abroad trip to Seville. There are meetings and informational things floating around - I just have yet to locate them.

Doctor's appointment on Friday. Need more birth control. Getting sick of the nurses telling me I could get it free if I were sexually active. It's like they're encouraging me. o_O

Addicted to Yogurt Dots. Need to stop eating them.

Haven't been eating real meals lately, and I've been getting queasy off of what little I do put in my system. I know I'm not sick. Either it's in my head, or it's because of the weather. Probably a bit of both.

Today was International Talk Like a Pirate Day. My roommate threatened my life until I gave her one small "yar."

I'm not sleepy, per se, but I could use it. Besides, I need to sleep now, whether or not I want to. My hair is a bit damp still, but that's what I get for waiting so long to wash it today.

So, I'm off. I have more random oddities and life happenings to share, but I don't remember them all now and I have no more time to think about it tonight.

    Nighty night, loves. <3

  • Three hundred seventy third entry - VGs and forum foreplay 2007-09-16 13:47:37 Time - 12:05, Noise - Nine Inch Nails - "March of the Pigs (live)"

So... I'm ripping footage for a new video - except that it comes from three sources. This is the first time I've done a multi-source video in a long time, so I was expecting all kinds of lovely AR and resolution issues to deal with between the three. Turns out that all three are exactly the same on both accounts. Nice. Also, the footage has noise in it as a part of the "mood," so I'm not gonna bother cleaning it up. It's supposed to be there, and I think I'd be causing more harm than good in trying to smooth out the footage.

Once I finish this video, I hope to get VG editing out of my system for a while. I really want to focus on anime videos. I'm seriously thinking of doing The Twin Videos next. The idea keeps floating up to the surface every time I just about think I've forgotten it, so I guess it's meant to be. Not really looking forward to ripping the DVDs (it's a long series), but I'll live. I already know that I won't be using most of the footage from the first half of the series, but I need at least one clip per episode anyway, so I still have to rip them all, at least temporarily.

After I throw my clothes in the washer, I'm gonna spend the rest of the day today editing (hopefully). I'll probably alternate between that and quizzing myself on hiragana. I really wish I had context, though. It would be easier to learn them if I were actually writing them for a reason. I was thinking of transcribing some of the doujinshi I have, but if I happen to be on the wrong page when my roommate returns... eh heh heh heh heh... that might be an issue. >_> (I'd only be able to transcribe a small portion of the doujinshi's text anyway, since less than half of it seems to be in hiragana.)

So, every once in a while, I visit a particular Devil May Cry fansite. It has very good content, and pretty good forums for various discussion of the series. Unfortunately, I really hate the site admin. She's such a bitch. She abuses her power and tells off the members all the time. The worst part is that no one wants to get on her bad side, so they all kiss up to her. It's just like with the site that my brother was a moderator for. All of the moderators abused their power constantly. They would ban people for making jokes at the moderators' expenses. They would ban people just if they didn't LIKE them! My brother (before he was a mod) got banned by the new boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend, just because the bastard didn't want Jonathan on the same site as his ex. That's major abuse of power, and if it were me, I'd have removed the moderator after he did that. But no. The admin for that site was a total wimp, and he let himself be pushed around by everyone. So, essentially, the ex-girlfriend (also a mod) and the bastard boyfriend were the ones running the site in the end.

It's stuff like that that makes me glad for the .org. It's pretty rare when I disagree with something the mods do here. Moreover, the rules (95% of them) are clearly stated, and the mods abide by them. Sure, there's the occasional tizzy over something, but more often than not, it's a situation that simply hadn't arisen before and the mods hadn't made a policy regarding it. No, the moderators here aren't perfect. They're only human, of course, but compared to what I've seen on a lot of other sites, the ones here are neither too strict nor too lenient - AND they're careful to not abuse their power.

This is probably much of the reason why I haven't been able to get comfortable on other forums. The members are foreign and the policies seem largely stupid, unnecessary, or too hard-assed. Oh, well. I'm happy here. To be frank, there aren't too many other hobbies that I have enough interest in to make me join another site. I'm an obsessive gamer, sure, but there are entirely too many gaming sites out there to pick just one.

In any case, I still need to pitch my clothes in the washer, so I'm gonna go now.

    See you, folks. <3

  • Three hundred seventy second entry - nani...? 2007-09-13 16:36:44 Time - 2:22, Noise - Vienna Teng - "Gravity"

I had a nerd-splosion today. When looking at someone's striped shirt today, the first description that came to mind today was that it was "interlaced" - and I said so. Funny looks ensued... : /

Sick of seeing stolen fanart in banners. It's cute, but ask permission people, because I know that many of you *aren't* - and moreover, the majority of the banners on the site are made by just a handful of people, so I know exactly who the main culprits are. Srsly, people. Mind yer manners.

No classes on Friday and nothing to worry about over the weekend, so I'm going to work on my segment for FMV (hopefully finish it), and I *will* finish the intro. Got one final in from one of the participants, and it looks great.

So, my Japanese teacher showed up today at our school. She normally teaches out of Whitewater (since it's an LDL class), but she visited Platteville today. It's a lot easier to understand her in person... and a lot easier to pay attention. She took the pictures of some students today as well, myself included. Something about wanting them for D2L or whatever.

Okay, so finally, info about my roommate... she's nice. Like... really nice. She's incredibly considerate of me and hesitates on everything she does to make sure I won't be offended. This is largely because I suspect she was told several horror stories about me (actually, I don't suspect - I know). However, she's just a genuinely kind person as well. I've only been irritated by a few of her habits, which is pretty damn good considering that I wanted to strangle Kat by day two of my freshman year.

Basically, it's just three things. For one, I signed a sheet last year saying that I wanted a non-smoking roommate, and she's a smoker. This isn't her fault, but rather the school's for not respecting their own damn questionnaire. Secondly, she's incredibly forgetful, so she'll dash in and out of the room no less than three times on any given trip outside to retrieve something that she forgot to bring. Lastly, and this is the most annoying, she doesn't set her alarm for the time that she actually wants to get up. She sets it for much before, and then will set it forward fifteen minutes every time it goes off, for about three times. I don't mind this on days when I wake before her, but it's annoying as hell when I sleep in an hour later, and her alarm continually wakes me up for that hour anyway. It's like I may as well wake up when it goes off the first time, because as soon as I start drifting off again, it'll go off again. I've mentioned to her before, and she keeps doing it. It's not like I can't survive it, but it's a tidbit that bugs me.

Other than that, though, she's slightly eccentric, and it's actually one of her redeeming qualities. I doubt we'll ever be good friends, but if I have to live with someone, I'm content with it being her.

And... that's all for now. I'm going on a picnic with my RA soon (French Club picnic - which I'm not a part of - just to get a class requirement out of the way), so I should go.

    See you, folks. <3
