Oh, I am so freakin' relieved! Ever since I upgraded to Windows XP a couple months ago, I've been plagued with this stupid problem. All my video was clipped. No matter what it was, it was choppy. My games, my videos, Windows Media Player animations, it was like it was trying to load something every three seconds! I thought it was my ATI card. My trusty ATI RADEON 7500 with 64 Megs of DDR RAM, I almost lost faith in ATI. I searched online and I found something on ATI's website that sounded just like the problem I had. It said that with XP systems with 512 Mb of RAM or more, ATI cards pretty much screwed up. I couldn't believe it. So today after church, I went over to Chris's house and switched my ATI card for his GeForce 4. I put it in, loaded all the drivers, and still, the same problem. At the same time I was relieved that I didn't have to buy a new video card, but pissed off that I still didn't know what it was.
My dad came down and was looking around on my system and said that it was probably something with the DMA (Direct Memory Access). So I spent hours looking everything up on DMA, but nothing even hinted at my problem. I finally went to my motherboard's website and downloaded the user manual for it and did a search for anything mentioning "DMA." It didn't look like I had found much, until I saw something about the BIOS settings for my motherboard. For some reason there was an option to toggle the DMA settings for the onboard parallel port. Then it just clicked. I realized that I was using an external Zip drive that was plugged into my parallel port. When I took my computer up to the cabin, it didn't give me any glitching problems, and the only difference was that I didn't plug in my Zip drive! So immediately I yanked out the cord to the Zip drive, put on "Princess Mononoke" to see if it would still jump, and it was flawless! It was so freakin awesome.
I went and told my dad, and he told me that it really didn't have to do with the DMA, it was the drivers for the Zip drive. Every couple of seconds, a program called 'iowatch' would check the Zip drive. I don't know what it was checking for, but without the zip drive plugged in, it stopped checking it, and stopped fouling up my computer. I now enjoy computer gaming and love XP. Although, this has spawned an eternal hate towards Iomega. That dang Zip drive caused me months of anguish and long hours of watching my video skip and glitch.
Anyway, as for the rest of the day, it went pretty good. Friday, I forgot to mention that I got another job interview set up for Monday. It would be answering incoming calls for Convergys. I've heard horror stories about people at school working there, but I'm pretty desperate for a job right now. I just found out that the $360 I paid as a down payment towards my Europe trip was non-refundable, and if I get accepted to the Air Force Academy, I wouldn't be able to go to Europe in June anyway, because that's when school would start.
Anyway, about today. I had presidency meeting at 10:30, didn't show up until quarter to 11, then I found out I was the only priest who made it. Nate probably just didn't want to go, and Ren probably didn't know about it. So it was just the bishop and me talking, oh ya, Rich Garret, our new Young Men's leader, wasn't there either. And he had all the plans. So the bishop and I knew absolutely nothing about what was going on.
Priest chorum today was great. Paul, Ren, Chris, Nate, and I were all there. It's the most we've seen for a while. Nick was the only leader their because the Bishop was attending that combined thing the Priesthood and Relief Society do on the fifth Sunday, and Rich was gone. So we never did get around to the lesson, we just all sat and talked through most of class, even Nick. He didn't seem to mind not having to get up and try to teach us about humility.
Then for Sunday school, Me, Chris, Nate, and Ren just sat in our classroom because our teacher (Nick's wife) wasn't there. We were supposed to join some other class, but we just didn't feel like it, so we sat in our class room and just talked until Sacrament.
When we were at Chris's house checking out his new paint job (his bathroom's purple! LOL!) and swapping video cards, Nate found his journal. He hadn't written in it since Junior High, and just about every entry was like three sentences long and said "nothing much else happened today." Man, we were horrible to him when he moved in. I'm kinda surprised he didn't commit suicide. Well, he's still here, so that's good.
I was supposed to catch up on my homework this Thanksgiving weekend, but ofcourse I kept procrastinating about it, dang I hate it when I get like this, oh well. It's only my future.
  • November 29, 2003 2003-12-15 15:02:06 Saturday November 29, 2003
Well the last few days have been a total blast. First off, Thanksgiving was pretty fun. We had "dinner" at my house at one o'clock. We had my whole mom's side of the family over, my dad's parents, a few of his brothers and sisters, and Echo over. We all ate in the front room of our house, which was barely big enough for everyone. Echo didn't talk a whole lot to everyone there, I didn't want to introduce her to a whole lot of people, because she gets embarrassed easily. Afterwards, she and I just went down to my room and we just played around on my computer. Kimberly came in and we played with her for a while.
At about four we went to her house to eat her Thanksgiving dinner. It was pretty good. It was just her brothers and sister and Jeremy's (her brother that's married) kids. We ate and then watched "Bruce Almighty." I had seen it once before, and she really didn't want to sit there and watch it. So after the movie, she and I left and just drove around for a while. We went and got hot chocolate and then strolled through the park by her house and looked at the Christmas lights they had up. After that we went driving around and we found a great lookout place just east of highway 89 that had a great view. So we sat there in the freezing cold and just talked for about a half an hour or so. Every time we talk, it feels like we grow so much closer, I love it.
After I dropped her off, I stopped at Cole's on my way home because I heard that he was having a LAN party. So I stopped by, and sure enough, they were having a LAN party. So I went home, got my computer, and had my dad drive me back over and drop me off because my mom needed the van to go shopping at four in the morning the next day (day after Thanksgiving). Remember that we're down to one car now because both the metro and the truck are out of commission thanks to me ;).
So I had a great time at Cole's. It was me, Dave, and Cole on one team in Cole's room; Nate, Chris, Mark, and Steve on the other team in Tyson's old room. Tyson got married and moved out in September, I think. Anyway, we had a blast playing Counter-Strike, Half-Life, watching our videos from the cabin, listening to dumb songs, watching dumb movies we downloaded. It was great. I didn't end up going to bed until about 5 or 6 in the morning. I can't remember exactly when I woke up or how I got home Friday, but some how I did. I think Dave might have brought me home some time. Anyway, Friday was pretty boring. I sat around trying to get the date Echo and I had organized for that day. We planned on going ice skating when the Ice Sheet opened at noon, but I didn't wake up until about 11:30, and I didn't have a car to pick her up with, so that never happened. Then we planned to go over to Chelsea's house to roast s'mores and watch "Better Off Dead" at around five. Well, I had to wait for my mom to get home from shopping, and then I had to wait for my dad to get ready for work. Right at about five my dad just gave up and decided to let me just take the van and leave. So I went and picked her up and arrived at Chelsea's at around six. We cooked our s'mores with Chelsea, Dave, Joe, and Cole. Then Cole went home because Chris and Steve were at his house because the LAN party was going on for the second night, then as we were watching "Better Off Dead," Tiffany came and brought Nate along, so we watched that, then just sat around talking and watching TV for a while. While we were sitting there, my dad called Chelsea's house (first, my dad doesn't know Chelsea at all, and second, I don't even know her phone number, it's kind of creepy) just to ask me if Echo wanted to come to the family Christmas party we had today. We both thought that we had probably spent enough time together that week, so she didn't end up going. You know, too much of a good thing .... Plus, we don't want to get too serious, always being with each other and everything.
When Echo and I finally left, we got a blanket and drove up by Frog Rock and looked out over the city and talked some more. It was really great. I dropped her off at about 12:30 and then headed for Cole's for the second night of the LAN party. I just left my computer there over night (which is one reason I was so bored most of Friday), but I still had to drop off the van. This time Joe and Cecil were there, they both joined our team in Cole's room. I haven't seen Cecil forever. He moved a while ago and started going to some private LDS school. I heard it's really just a school for dumb, lazy kids who don't know their dumb (like Chris's little brother). Anyway, we had a ton of fun again, went to bed at around 4 in the morning, and woke up around noon. I stayed until about 2:30, and got a ride home from Dave.
I was only home for about an hour and a half until we left for the family Christmas party. I was wondering why in the world we were having our Christmas party two days after Thanksgiving. I found out we had it so early because David was moving to Alabama next week for the Army, so they wanted to have it while he was still here. But his kid got sick and he ended up not coming, so it's kind of ironic.
Everybody was asking me if I had brought Echo, and I found out that my dad called everyone to make sure it was alright if I brought her. I thought it was a little strange of him, but then I realized he's really strange anyway, so oh well. Everyone was saying how disappointed they were because she didn't come. Then afterwards when I called her, I found out she kind of wanted to go, too, so I screwed up this time. Oh well, it wasn't the first time.
  • November 26, 2003 2003-12-15 15:01:44 Wednesday, November 26, 2003
Well not much happened Sunday, I slept half way through church, and showed up during sacrament meeting. Chris's entire family got up and gave talks about Thanksgiving, it was pretty good. After church, Nate and I went up to Dave's like we usually do. We just hung around there for a while then went home.
Monday, I don't really remember much that happened on Monday. Well except for practice. I walked in to the wrestling room and got chewed out by my coach for not being there Saturday. Other than that, not much happened Monday, either.
Tuesday was an awesome day. First, I had an interview with Representative Bishop for a congressional nomination to the Air Force Academy. It was held at the Ogden federal building, so we didn't have to drive long to get there. We got there at 9:30 when we were scheduled, but we had to wait for an hour before I actually got interviewed. When they finally did call my name, they took me into this office, and Bishop was sitting right there. I was pretty surprised because I expected to be interviewed by his staff, or a liaison from the academy. He seemed pretty impressed with me, but I don't know. I think it went well.
I got back to school during 7th period, but I didn't want to go to that class, so I just sat in Mrs. Murphy's room working on my programming. After school I had a wrestling meet, which was really inconvienient, because Echo was taking me to her Harvest dance that night, too. I talked to coach before and he said if I did have a match, that I could go right after I wrestle. So I looked at the line up and they had given me two matches, I was pretty ticked off.
Good news though, is that I pinned both my matches in the first period. That right there beat my win record for all of last year. Everybody including me was really surprised. We wrestled Bingham, and I was wrestling JV, and I think the kids I wrestled were like sophomores, but oh well, it's a win!
After my two matches I went down to Layton to pick Echo up for the dance. The dance started at 7:30, and I think that's when I picked her up, so we were a little late for the dance, and we couldn't do anything with her group. But we got something to eat at Subway for dinner, which was really good because I hadn't eaten all day because I had to loose three pounds for that match. I made weight, though, (by .1 pounds!).
The dance was pretty fun, I didn't know very many people there, but there were a few people that worked at Lagoon that I knew. The dance was held at the Weber County Fair Grounds and had a whole cowboy theme for it. We were there until they stopped playing music again, which was about 11:00. When we went out to the truck, I saw my dad out there. He came to check on the truck because it was acting weird when I was in Layton, so I called him. Well when he got there, it wouldn't start, so he had to use the van to tow it home, so Echo and I just sat in the truck while my dad towed us home.
Once we got home, we went to get hot chocolate and then we went to Frog Rock, but it had just snowed, so it wasn't really a great place to sit. So we were going to go to the park by her house, but by the time we got there, it was time for me to go home, because I had wrestling practice this morning at 7:00 AM! Anyway, the dance was a blast, and I'm really glad I could go with her.
  • November 22, 2003 2003-12-15 15:01:17 November 22, 2003
Well two weeks have passed since I last wrote in my journal. Wrestling has started, and what a joy that is (it's hard to be sarcastic when typing something). Practices started on Monday the tenth. Everyday after school for two hours. It really sucks. Then every morning at six before school, but I only went to two of those.
On Wednesday the twelfth, Echo came up and went to my mutual. It was pretty fun. It was a combined activity, we had a BBQ. It was really disorganized, though, and it took a while to get everything ready. But Echo was there, so that made it better. I should have written about that soon after it happened so I could go in to more detail what happened, but oh well.
That was also the day of the Academic Olympiad for school. What we do, we get a team of nine students from Weber and go take tests at USU to compete. We took tests in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science. Last year when I competed in it, I did very well in the Math portion, and almost got dead last in the English part. This year was totally opposite. I did horrible in Math for once! I'm pretty sure it's because of the math classes I took. Last year I was in AP Calculus, so I was really good at all the derivitaves and crap like that. This year I'm enrolled in AP Statistics, and if you ask me, that is not a math class at all. It's all just writing crap about data. There's no formulas or equations, I hate it. So I didn't do as well on the Math portion, but oh well. That day also started my long string of A-day absences.
Actually, the Monday just before that started that. I had a job interview during school hours for a surveyor up in Garland. So I went up there and found out that the boss is my uncle Kelly's little brother. So, they said I could have the job as soon as they found an area manager for Ogden. What I would do is just go door to door taking surveys of people.
So I was gone from school on Monday and Wednesday, which are both A-days (school consists of 8 classes, we attend the first four on A-day, then the next day, B-day, we attend the last four). But I've been gone in those classes a lot lately for a number of reasons. Ya, the past 5 A-days, I've been there once. I have Chemistry, AP Computers, AP Physics, and Seminary those days, so I'm getting a little behind.
Anyway, then Sunday came and I went down to Echo's ward because she was singing in Sacrament. She wasn't doing a solo, she was with her whole Young Womens. She was so nervous to go up there, but I really wanted just to hear her sing. She says she's not that good at it, but I think she really is. Anyway, I still don't know because I couldn't hear her particularly. They sang "Press Forward," it's a good song, and she got me the sheet music so I could learn to play it on the piano. I haven't looked at it much, but I think I might be able to pull it off.
After sacrament we went to her Sunday school and then I went to the Priest's Chorum. That was pretty scary. I knew absolutely nobody there, and they were a pretty close chorum. But oh well, afterwards we went to her house and went out walking. After just a couple of minutes Carly (Echo's sister) and her friend came running after us and told us that lunch was ready. So we headed back to her house and ate.
Afterwards, we went to the park, and it was so cool. We walked over there and found this kind of covert little grove of trees off the side of the road that a small river ran through. It was behind the library and we followed it to the park. When we got there, there were so many ducks out. We were walking around, and it was just after it had rained to everything was pretty wet and muddy. It was in the afternoon, so it was still light out, we're usually there at night, and the leaves were all sorts of colors and everything was so cool. We walked around for a while and then came to sit at one of the small pavilions and we just sat there and talked for a while.
It was pretty chilly out, so before it got dark, we walked back to her house and decided to watch a movie. We ended up watching Can't Hardly Wait, I love that movie, but I forgot that there were some inappropriate parts in it. The movie got over before I had to go, so I helped her with this Power Point presentation she had to do for school. When it came time for me to leave, we were outside by the van (my parents made me drive the mini-van, GRRRRR) and she grabbed my sides from behind to tickle me, and I flinched and flung me head back really quickly and hit her square in the nose. I swear I heard something crack just then, but I felt so horrible. She said it didn't hurt that bad, but I still felt so bad about it.
When I got home I got online for something and I saw her on messenger and we started talking. Then Dave got on, and apparently Echo told him about me hitting her in the face, so the next day everybody found out about it. I thought I had broken her nose for sure.
Then Monday at school was just a horrible day. First in drafting, I get started on this floor plan of a house and work on it for like twenty minutes until I found out that I did it wrong and I had to start over. Then in math I didn't have my assignment done. In English, I think I just didn't get my book read, again I should write in my journal more often so I don't scimp on the details. Then conditioning was the worst. Near the end of the period, I was doing this drill called the "box jumps," well I don't feel like explaining it, but on the last box, my foot slipped and I fell backward landing on my wrist really hard. I thought I just sprained it and thought nothing much of it. So I went to wrestling that day anyway.
I was feeling so terrible, then when I got home I called Echo and everything was just so much better. Talking to her always makes me feel great. She always so supportive and listening. We talked for a while, and my whole attitude changed.
When I woke up the next morning my wrist still hurt, so I skipped school (it happened to be an A-day again) and went to the doctor. They took some X-rays, said that they couldn't see anything yet, but that they would look for a hair line fracture. They put it in a splint and told me to come back in a week to see how it was doing. So I didn't go back to school or wrestling that day. But later I went and saw a screening of Pride and Prejudice with Echo. It was a cool movie. She felt so sad about my wrist, even though it wasn't her fault, but she was so caring about everything. Luckily it was my left wrist, so I could still hold her hand while I was driving. That probably doesn't sound very safe now that I think about it, but oh well.
Wednesday during school I got a note saying that I needed to call home, so I went to the office and waited for this girl to get off the stupid phone. She was on it forever just sitting there talking about nothing to her mom (I think), but when she finally did get off I called home and my mom answered and I thought that was pretty weird because I knew she was working that day (she does substitute teaching right now). She told me that I needed to come home right after school and tend because she was going down to see my cousin Jesse. She was in the hospital because she had gotten hit by a car in Salt Lake, and she wasn't doing very well. I told coach Warren that I had to miss practice and he wasn't too happy about it. I really believe he hates my guts. Anyway, the accident was all over the news. It seems that a mini van ran a red light and hit four people crossing the cross walk by the U of U.
Mutual that night wasn't that great because the Priest chorum had a planning meeting because we just got a new leader. Neither Nate or Chris were there, so it was pretty dull.
Thursday, I had an interview for Orin Hatch's congressional nomination to attend the Air Force Academy. Hatch didn't directly inteview me, it was done by some liaison officer from the Academy. My parents and I had to be at the federal building in Salt Lake by noon (so that was another A-day missed) and we just barely made it on time. As soon as we sat down in the lobby room with all the other candidates, they called my name to come on back. The interview was suspiciously short, and that really made my dad nervous. I figured that they knew most of the stuff about me from the forms I had to fill out before, so they just wanted to meet me.
Well my dad was still feeling nervous so he asked his boss Jared Brown (owner of Living Scriptures) if he could put in a good word for me to Hatch, because it turns out that they are really close friends, Brown and Hatch. So right there he writes this letter of recomendation for me and sends a copy to Hatch's office, and one to his home. I thought it was pretty cool.
I went back for wrestling practice and then afterwards, I went down to Layton so Echo and I could get matching shirts for our harvest dances. It's so cool, we get to go to two harvest dances together, hers and mine. Anyway, it took forever to finally decide on a shirt. We drove all over Layton looking at a bunch of different places and afterwards we went to the park like usual.
Then Friday, I didn't have wrestling practice because for some reason coach Warren decided to hold it during the dance. So Joe picks me up around 5:15 after he said he'd be over at 4:30, and we went down to Layton and picked up Echo. We then drove back to North Ogden and picked up Joe's date Pam. Our group consisted of just us four, so it was really just a double date. We had dinner at the Ogden Pizzaria and then went to the dance. It was such a fun dance. The whole time, Echo was unusually talkative in the group. Even Joe noticed that she wasn't so reserved. She taught me some more dances that she'd learned and again, I didn't do too well with them. She suggested before that we take some sort of dance class, and I thought it was a good idea. The dance lasted for two and a half hours, but it just flew by again. We were the last ones to stop dancing and leave.
Afterwards Joe dropped off Pam and we went up to Dave's house. Turns out that Chris and Nate had brought up their computers and were having a mini LAN party during the dance. But when we got there, Nate and Dave were gone, and Chris was just playing by himself. Then Cole showed up and after a while Nate and Dave showed up. Echo got suddenly quite and didn't talk much, I felt pretty bad, I could tell she didn't really want to be there. Then she said that her stomache was hurting pretty bad, so Dave got her some Pepto Bismol. Dave and Nate wanted to go to the foot hills to light off fireworks, but I didn't want to drag Echo up there when she wasn't feeling very good, but she insisted that I not let her keep me from going. She pretty much just guilt tripped me into it, so we drove over to 1050 and Nate and Dave ran up into the foot hills to follow this car that they saw go up there. The foot hills have been closed to vehicles now, but people would drive up and make out and what not, and we used to sneak up on them and scare the crap out of them. So while Nate and Dave followed this car, I was talking to Echo about what she wanted to do since she didn't feel all that great. She didn't want to go home yet, but I didn't think she really wanted to go back to Dave's either, so we just sat in the car and talked. I felt so bad, she was hurting so much, and I couldn't do anything about it. She said that the Pepto Bismol wasn't helping much either, so I didn't know what else to try.
Eventually Nate and Dave ran back and told me that the car was a cop just patrolling the area. So we went back to Dave's house. We were all sitting in Dave's room just talking for a while, then Nate, Dave, and Chris started playing Diablo, so I took Echo upstairs to sit on the couch because it was more comfortable. We sat and talked forever.
Around two we decided to get her home, so we left and headed towards Layton. She fell asleep on the way down, so I didn't have much to keep me awake. I hate driving when I'm like that, but there wasn't much else we could do. I almost fell asleep a couple of times on the freeway, I don't know what I would have done if I would have gotten in a wreck with Echo in the car. I dropped her off around 2:30 in the morning, and I was too scared to make the drive home in the state that I was, so I pulled into a parking lot down the street from her house and slept for about an hour before I drove home.
I got home around four in the morning, and my parents didn't even notice. I fell asleep as soon as I hit my bed. I was supposed to help out at some little league wrestling tournament at 7:30 this morning, but I just slept right through it. My little sisters came in and woke me up around eleven and I just cleaned for most of the day.
I was cleaning my room, so I set my computer to play through my music, and while I was sitting at my computer, Echo signed in on messenger, so we ended up talking for most of the day. We talked about so much stuff today. For some reason she wanted to know about other girls I've gone out with. So I ended up telling her about Sarah, Carrie, and Shanda. She already knew about Joanne, but I thought it was kind of weird telling her all that stuff. I just don't know why she wanted to know about that. But in return she told me all about the guys she's dated. I guess we just got to know each other a little better tonight.
  • November 9, 2003 2003-12-15 15:00:52 Sunday November 9, 2003
Alright, so last time I wrote in my journal i was up until three or four in the morning. That's probably why it's full of grammatical and spelling errors and it doesn't make sense. Oh well. I woke up the next morning in time for school, so I didn't get much sleep that night. I don't remember much happening on Thursday. Oh, except that it was an A-day, so during my Java Programming class I talked to Echo on MSN Messenger. It's really nice to talk to her during school. She has lunch at that time, so she goes to the library, installs that program (which she'll probably get in trouble for) and we just talk.
Also during that class I was online looking for a job since Lagoon is over now. Anyway, I found this job in Garland. Yes, it's pretty far away, but I think I can work around Ogden. What it is (I think) is just going door to door taking a survey of households for some company. I called them after school and set up an interview for tomorrow at nine, so I get to miss school, but I also have to miss talking with Echo. I think it pays about $6.00 an hour, which isn't that great, but it claims to have a flexible schedule, so who knows?
Then Friday nothing happened at all. Well I had some school work and all that, but I've forgotten what it was by now, so it wasn't anything big. But after school I got online and signed on to Messenger, and Echo was on, so we ended up talking for hours. Talking online isn't as good as talking on the phone, but it's with Echo, so I liked it.
We've started this thing where we trade journal entries back and forth. I don't know how it started. I think when she was on my computer doing her homework she saw the folder where I keep my journals, so it got her curious. Strangely enough, she keeps her journal entries on the computer, too! The more I find out about her, the more it seems we fit together like pieces of a puzzle. So anyway, she'll probably be reading these, so "Hi Echo." I like reading what she has to say about our dates. I'm not to fond of her reading these though, especially when I forget that I've written certain things in here. Not that I would be hiding anything, it's just embarassing sometimes.
But while we were talking online, Nate called and him and Cole came over and we went to Maple Gardens on Washington Blvd. I feel bad, because after talking so long with Echo I just left with my friends. Plus she wanted me to come with her and her parents to this ad-lib club or something, and I told her that I didn't want to go. I found out that the place she went to was just a couple of blocks from where we were eating. Her brother actually called me while we were at the restaraunt to see if I was coming or not. And I would have said yes, had I known that Echo was there. But when we were talking it didn't seem like she was interested in going, either.
So Me, Nate, Cole, and Mark ate at this place and we had a great time. We all ordered a big plate of something and then just shared it with eachother. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which wasn't that great, Cole ordered the non-spicy Sheshwan (forgive me on the spelling, but I'm not even going to attempt it) Chicken, Nate got the spicy Sheshwan chicken, and Mark got the rice. Afterwards, I said, "I think I'm going to get the Sheshwan next time," and somehow Cole thought I said "I'm not going to eat that Sh** again." It was so hilarious, though. But after that, we just went to Cole's house and sat around for about an hour.
Well our date on Saturday was really fun, though. I went down to Layton and picked her up at 9:45, I was a little late because we had established 9:30 earlier. But it was okay, because she wasn't ready yet. Anyway we went to eat breakfast at this place in Layton (which I still can't remember the name). When we got there, it was packed, and it took like 15 or 20 minutes for us just to be seated. At the time, however, it didn't seem that long. In fact I hadn't realized that it was that long until we sat down and I noticed the time. I think if I were there with anyone else, it would have seemed like a lot longer.
I remember I ordered this breakfast that came with "two small pancakes" and when I got them they were as big as the plate. I couldn't even finish them, but it was a good breakfast. After that, we went up to Ogden and went skating at the Ice Sheet. But it didn't open until noon and we had a half hour free, so we found this trail up above 43rd street (or whatever street is just south of the Ice Sheet) and we walked up it and got a great view of the city. The trail was right behind some houses, though, so it wasn't a marvelous view, but it was still pretty cool. This time, though she remembered her camera. I can't remember if she took any pictures there, though.
We then went down to the Ice Sheet and skated around for two hours. I was pretty nervous at first, because I haven't been ice skating for a very long time, but I found out it was only like Echo's third time. We were skating around for a couple minutes when she fell and hurt her wrist. She said it was okay, but it goes worse when we were playing around and I made her fall on it again. After that, it was bugging her the whole day. I felt really bad about it. But besides that, it was really fun.
Before the public skating time closed, we got out the camera. Some one from school was working there, so I had him take a picture of us. She refused to be in any pictures by herself, but she wanted some of me. Ofcourse I resisted just as much, but seeing as how it was her camera, she managed to take a few of me.
After skating we were supposed to go meet the rest of my friends and go over to Joe's. This was about 2:30 and I found out that everyone else was planning on meeting at five or six. Echo and I were planning on watching the sunset then and cooking s'mores, so we just decided to ditch them. Which was alright with me, because it just meant that I be around Echo more.
We decided to finally go to Adam's Canyon in Layton. Echo wanted to hike up this canyon before, but she didn't remember how to get there. We did find the place, but then she didn't know which trail to take to get to this waterfall that she'd been to before. We came to this fork and I suggested that we go left, I didn't know it would really make a difference. But we ended up going down this trail that didn't seem to go anywhere, so I suggested that we walk up the hill, off the trail, to this rock to watch the sunset. Well I say 'walk' but it was more like a climb because it was really steep. We got to the rock that was about half way up the hill and we sat and looked at the view for a while and decided that going down that hill probably wouldn't be to fun. So we just went up the hill to see if there was a trail down the other side, and there was. It was really cloudy, so there wasn't much of a sunset to see.
After that, we were both pretty hungry, it was about 6:00, so we went to the mall and ate in the food court. After that, we went to her house to get something to roast the marshmallows on. When we were there she finally showed me the back of her house, up until then I had only seen her living room. It was pretty cool, but she still didn't show me her room, which isn't fair because she's been in mine, oh well.
We then went to Fernwood to make the s'mores, but it was posted "No Fires," we didn't want to run the risk, so we went looking for somewhere else, because we really wanted to cook these s'mores, we had been trying to for a long time, but it never worked out, so we were set on getting this done. Well we drove around trying to think of where we could go, and I remembered that there were some camping sites in Farmington Canyon, so we headed down there.
We were driving for a while and I couldn't see any fire pits along side of the rode, so I just kept driving. After a while I suddenly realized that I was deep into Farmington Canyon, in the dark, alone with Echo, and realized it wasn't the best situation to put ourselves into. I felt really stupid then, and I sensed that she was getting uncomfortable, so I turned around and we left. I felt like such an idiot. We ended up not even cooking the s'mores, so we still have to do that.
We went back to her house and tried to think of somthing we could do, because it was only 9:00 and I didn't have to be back until midnight. We decided to go see a movie, but we couldn't find any listings, so we just drove over to the theatres. Nothing really looked that great, so we just went to the park. I really like going there, we just sit on one of the park benches and just talk forever about everything. It's so nice just to get things off my mind, and it's so nice to listen to what she's thinking about. It was also nice because she gave me a couple really big hugs.
After that, we went back to her house and she showed me some pictures that she had, and then I went home. I didn't get home until 12:30, so I was a little late, but my parents didn't seem to care. Now it's quarter after one, and I've got that interview in the morning, so I'd better get to bed.
