AnimeNext 2005 AMV Contest - Full Results

Postby VegettoEX » Sun Jun 19, 2005 9:27 pm

Yooooosh~. Here we go with the full information on the contest.

The contest was played four times throughout the entire convention (Friday 12 noon, Friday 11:30 pm, Saturday 11 am, Sunday 4 pm). Ballots were due Saturday by 5:00 pm. We had a total of thirty-one videos in the contest. The videos were separated into four categories: Trailer/Parody, Action, Drama, and Comedy (six, eight, eleven, and six videos, respectively). The Trailer/Parody category was open to the public at AnimeNext for the first time, this year. At the end of the contest, a recap was played, which was basically a slide-show collection of all of the title cards and a uniquely identifying screen shot from the video, one after another (put to Amber Pacific's cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star"). Each attendee could pick their single favorite video in each of the four categories; this would decide the four popular vote winners. After the ballots were counted, the judges (myself and Meri) selected one other video that we felt set itself apart from the other videos in some kind of way (with both technical and artistic merits).

All five winning videos were played during the awards ceremony, which took place Saturday evening during the judges' deliberation for the cosplay awards. The winners will all receive printed and signed certificates. We will be contacting you to confirm your mailing addresses!

So here's the full list of videos! Links to their respective entries here on the org are provided where available.

So there we go! I think that's pretty much everything I can think of. If you have any further comments, questions, or suggestions about the contest, feel free to let me know.

It is the decision of the individual editor (or editors) to make their own videos available for download online. It is *not* the decision of the contest coordinators or any other AnimeNext staff.

Thanks, everyone, and I'll see you all again next year! *collapses*

Congrats to all the winners! Looking through the list of competitors, I think I'll be doing a good bit of downloading this evening- there are a bunch in there I've not seen that sound pretty interesting. :)

Real Ninjas was definitely my favorite of the contest. BTW, he won Katsucon tix in the Janken contest as well. Damn Rock Lee.

*looks at Digitalex's sig* Wow, "Cry Little Akiha" was your first video? Damn, that's mighty impressive!

Thank you (and everyone else, for that matter!) for submitting to the contest. We appreciate your sending your work to the con, and we hope you had a good time! If you have any suggestions or feedback to take into consideration for future years, please let Mike and I know.

Yes Meri, it's my first crack at AMVing. :D Thanks for the compliment! I hope to get better! Oh, it was great to finally meet you, Mike, Scott, Matt, Brian, and the other editors.

I had a wonderful time at the AMV contest and the Con in general. We were also blessed with fantastic weather. I'd like to give a HUGE thanks to you and Mike for managing the contest and panels. It certainly is a lot of work especially with all the equipment toting and unforseen issues that can pop up. Great job managing around them.

I'm glad to hear you had a good time at the con (and the weather did indeed kick ass)! We did sadly run into a lot of tech issues (tv not working at panel, bad audio in Panel II), but we hope have these problems sorted out next year, especially now that everyone is used to the new venue (of course, if they end up moving the location again, it's back to square one).

If there were any topics during the panel that you think we could have covered, but didn't, or if you feel there was any one subject that we dwelled on for too long, by all means, let us know. With the help of audience feedback, we can figure out which topics interest people, and then take those into consideration for next year.

That only draws attention more to the fact that you do complain, and shows that you would have complained if someone hadn't brought it up recently

Hee. That's how you read it. If I were still into wrestling, I'd be one of those annoying heels that nobody likes but still hangs around the company anyway.

ObContest: Again, genuine thanks and congratulations to all the entries (and the winners too)!.

I'm not familiar with wrestling in any fashion, but don't those guys you're talking about usually get their asses whipped in the ring? Seems like you fit the part more than you know.
