Should videos using "stolen clips" be banned from

Post by rubyeye » Mon Aug 16, 2004 4:22 am

I was recently informed about another video using clips from one of my videos (guess which one) and in reading all the posts and questions about stealing clips from other amvs, I just had a thought:

Videos using Live-action and Game footage are restricted from being hosted on this site. So why not restrict videos which use edited clips from other videos?

In the FAQ page it even says, "anime music videos that you have made". I guess you could argue what making a video entails, at least regarding where you get your source material (you still have to do the editing).

I say no, simply because

Why? Double compression makes things look worse, or so I'm told. And if it does look crappy, well then it seems mine is superior. I win both times.

The point of this site (well, the main point, anyway) is to catalogue any and all anime music videos created.

Regardless of where the source footage comes from, be it downloaded episodes or someone else's AMV, you cannot change the fact that taking some anime footage and placing it to music is absolutely an "anime music video."

While I/we/most have a problem with the morals/ethics behind these practices, to say they're not AMVs worthy of being catalogued is a bit pompous and counter-productive. They're AMVs. Just because we don't like how they're made doesn't change that fact.

I would recomend that it depends on whether or not you can tell that it's from somebody else's video. If the clip starts and stops on the same scene, has no obvious filters or effects applied, then there's not really any differance than getting it from a normal source. And it's sometimes easier to find a clip in a music video than go through 26 or more episodes looking for the same one.

Must echo in the wind.

Besides, how do you know that some people just dont suck ass at compression?

You'd take their video off anyway? Even if they DIDNT steal the footage?

Or would you just take the obvious ones off? Which infact would be being a hypocrit cause you're leaving the others whom would be that much less obvious.

And what about projects and gag's that rely on taking other peoples clips (add comes to mind, which is one of the most well recived videos on this site)?

You're going to go back on your word reguardless?

Sorry but that seems retarded.

You should be the better person. First off, people who steal other people`s edited footage aren`t worth your concern. Second, YOU DID IT FIRST, IT WAS YOUR IDEA, YOU KNOW THAT AND THE GUY WHO RIPPED YOU OFF KNOWS IT, SO FUCK WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK

Illogical. Who's going to spend time investigating every claim?

and since it was typed in caps, the point is even more valid.
