Technically Prime woudn't count since it was made outside Japan despite the origins of the character and the franchise. It's a tough call but generally the key rule is "Was it made in Japan?"Kumatora wrote:Even if the game used is made by an American developer (ie Metroid Prime)? I assume seeing as Nintendo would supervise it.GloryQuestor wrote:So, as you can see above, MGS games are fine (as exampled) as would be Smash Bros. and Metroid -- all of these were created by and under the control of Japanese companies (Konami and Nintendo, respectively) and are in the "style and spirit" of anime.Site Definition of Anime & AMV wrote:
Video Games
In order for a video game title to be accepted as anime, it must meet the following criteria:
• Games must be made in Japan under the control of a Japanese company.
• Games must be in the style and spirit of anime (not based on North American or other country icons).
• The game may premiere outside of Japan so long as the above criteria is met.
Examples: Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Final Fantasy 7, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Resident Evil

I guess a couple seconds would be good. Although you'd have to remove the HUD, if you can.kisanzi wrote:I think you're pretty safe, as long as you keep to cutscenes and not make a full GMV of in-game, hud-laden clips. If anyone has a problem, just say that Samus is a mecha and you're in the clear. The anime influence/spirit rule is there to keep out GMVs using stuff like Halo, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, etc.
..You can change your username? Wow, I didn't think that was possible.I keep thinking your username says Kamasutra. That would be a better username. You should change it.

I'm not sure that people are interpreting the whole "gameplay" footage thing quite correctly, although it could just be me. The way I see it... the .org doesn't want videos that just show the player doing some task in the game - kinda like a site for speed runs, if you will. They don't want the site to become an archive for people's record breaking videos, or speed runs, or stuff like that. If you're using the footage in the spirit of an AMV, I don't see how that's a bad thing. I mean, yeah, if you're just overlaying your speed run with music to get it into the database, then clearly that's not allowed, but just the idea of using gameplay footage isn't bad necessarily. If that were the case, then we should ban the use of VG trailers, as a large part of them is usually gameplay footage.
That's kind of on the extreme end, but you get my drift, I hope. I'm having a tough time making sense with this topic, it seems, though it makes perfect sense in my head. >_<
