totaly randome download spike
ok so anyone have any idea why 1 of my videos got 450 downloads while the rest are around 150 tops.. and generally the same # of hits... i mean its not any better than the rest... or at least nobodies told me so... it wasn't advertised (talked about in the forums) more than the rest... it is a red hot chili pepper's song though...
real point of this would have to be... in your opinion, what gets people to download amvs instead of just looking and leaving? word of mouth... con exposure... music choice... ok so these are obvious ones... so i'll refrase... outside of the obvious what gets people to download the amvs they download?
and no im not looking for the best ways to get people to check out my amvs... cuz really i could care less as long as im making them and getting feedback from the op exchanges on how to improve....

William Blake says "Babies are evil fiends hidden in clouds." Do you really want a baby hater to be in the chatholic church? Vote and excommunicate William Bake.

Is it new? Does it use popular sources? Did you stop sucking in that particular one? Not that I have any idea if you can edit or not.

I have a few with over a thousand and two still struggling to get to 100. And the over one thousands were never ever pimped (as in opinion exchanges, banners, or having an announcement thread) whereas one of two under 100s is my most recent video, had opinion exchanges (where the other people didn't hold up their half of the bargain -_-), had an announcement thread and is one of the banners in my signature. That poor little unpopular thing is way better than any of the over 1000s yet still the others get more downloads. I don't know why. All of the animes and songs that I use tend to be equally unpopular XD So I have no clue as to why some go over so darn well when I don't like them, and then others of mine that I'm very proud of no one like but me. I guess there's no real answer. Maybe someting as simple as your video title is more intruiging. Who knows?

When people go to "Search for AMVs" and see two vids: one with 1000 hits and one with 200 hits, they will probably download the one with 1000 rather than the one with 200 hits... Besides, there are numerous factors that can affect the number of hits on your video. Some of them are already mentioned above, although there are many more...

Anime. Popularity and availability of. And theme using that anime.
That's the biggest factor in non-pimped vids. Take an anime with a small fangroup. If there aren't many other vids with that anime, yours will get the attention of *all* the fans of that anime. Because it's the only one there is. If there are lots of vids for the anime and yours happens to focus on an underused character, again, yours gets downloaded because it's the only one for those fans to get. Take a common anime and do a new twist to it, comedy where comedy is rare, action/serious where serious is rare, and again yours is one-of-a-kind for that fangroup.
Those random people see that 'special interest' vid and...sometimes...they'll talk about it. All it takes is one person to pimp your vid on their home anime forum and you'll get a sudden rash of downloads out of seemingly nowhere.
Even a very bad amv will get this sort of treatment if it uses the right anime, a unique focus with the right anime, and/or is downloaded by someone who'll pimp it for you in a forum that specializes in that anime.
