Hello, I'm new and have a question [uploading non-AMVs]

Post by Karasu_1476 » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:26 pm

Hello, I just opened an account. A friend of mine directed me here after I had a wee falling out with Youtube and was unsatisfied with my Photobucket limitations.

I originally got an account on YouTube after a lot of prompting from my online friends. I have dialup, so sending them AMV's I had attempted to make took FOREVER and sometimes never sent at all. So I got the YouTube account so, when I was on a faster connection [normally at my parents' house], I could upload them there. And whenever I wanted to share one, direct them to my account since they all had faster connections. I unfortunately can't afford to upgrade to something faster, but that's beside the point.

Well, for a while, everything was great. But then Viacom and Aniplex began complaining and, like a LOT of AMV's, YouTube removed 2 of my videos. One, I wasn't SO angry on, as it was an AMV to make my sister laugh [and others who would get the...really dorky joke]. The other took me a LONG time to make since it had some wierd effects I've been trying to experiment with [I'm still kinda new to it and testing things out. So most of my vids are just the lovechild of my goofing around to figure things out and try new things]. I knew it was only a matter of time before eventually all my AMV's would be removed by whining companies.

I tried to open a Photobucket account, but they only allow videos exactly 5 minutes in length and you have to purchase an account for a 10 minute limitation. I DO have a couple AMV's that exceed the 5 minute mark [some are just long songs, and some I've been experimenting with lettering]. One of my favorite AMV's I made is almost 6 1/2-7 minutes long...and there are opening or closing credits that I'm notorious for. It's just one entire song [and that thing was hard and fun to put together].

Anyway, when I have access to the faster connection, I'm eager to load these videos here to share with my friends and...whoever wants to look at them [I know they aren't great but...I'm still proud of them to some degree].

Okay, now for my question. AMV does stand for Anime Music Video, but does the site allow videos that are not anime or Japanese related. I've been trying to get rip clips from some cartoons I like [that aren't really anime] and some movies I've bought. Though they are not Asian in any way, are they allowable here as well? An example [at random], if I wanted to make a music video to...say [picking a title out of the air], X-Men, or....Van Helsing...or Buffy or something, would such music videos be allowed here with the anime music videos? It would seem a horrible waste to not be able to share my very...odd attempts on those types of vids as well.

no, they only allow Anime videos here,
and as far as i know they dont allow japanese live action either

if you want, you can join the vidding group on livejournal and share your videos there using one of these:

http://www.bigupload.com/
http://www.sendspace.com/
http://www.megaupload.com/
http://www.filefront.com/

they arent perminant hosts, but they are commonly used...

but as for a-m-v.org , you are only allowed to list and upload Anime videos

Sorry, but those wouldn't be allowed. The video has to be around 75% anime (51% if you're being really technical), or the site won't host it. There are some Live Journal communities for non-anime videos, though. I don't know any off of the top of my head, but I'm sure if you did some searching, you'd find one pretty quickly.

Hope that helps.

the only other video source you can use is original animation (stuff you created yourself).

Best solution I know of would be to get a good webhosting plan.
$7 a month at lunarpages.com gets you 250 GB Storage and 2500 GB Bandwidth.

Also if you have any question on whether something qualifies as anime for this site, it tells you in the long list when you enter a new video and select the video source.

250 GB [drooooooooooools]

Sorry LOL. But anyway, thanks. Yeah, I was kinda messing with the site to figure out how things worked and came across that bit of info lol. Oh well. I still got my Photobucket Account for those particular videos I suppose. Most everything I have in anime-majority.

Now it's just a matter of getting to a faster computer to upload what I got [stupid dialup].
