as i said, not everyone is "forced" to give stars...

most people would rather just not rate a video if they dont like it.

Who cares about the ratings on youtube. This is the site that matters.

On youtube a song length anime clip + a song = greatest thing since sliced bread.

So yeah, back to caring about a-m-v.org

It's my belief that, as the general AMV-viewing public (many of whom probably weren't AMV watchers before the onset of websites like that one) becomes more accustomed to the concept of such easily streamable, shareable video, they'll see more and more AMVs there, and they'll start to notice the things that make some videos suck and make some videos good.
And then their standards will rise and they'll start demanding better content.

It's kind of like how we all got started in the AMV fandom ourselves, really. Except that the content is much more easily accessible now than it was then.

Not to say your completly wrong, but some of those Naruto Videos are accually pretty good here on the org. But a majority of the videos are random crap thrown togeather.

You gotta remember its all about what the person likes viewing the video. I personally have got low ratings just because of the music I choose to make my videos with, when the music has nothing to do with the sound quality.

It's not really a matter of standard. We don't have a someone stamping Grade A vids and tossing out the cracked ones. It's all a matter of opinion until amvs become something machines can create consistently - in which case there will be set rules to determine which vids are better than the rest. Some people will look at a very tightly edited video and find it way too fast, dubbing it as a horrible video. Just like most people here will look at a slow vid with very little visible editing and figure it was tossed together with no care for the pace of the song, dubbing it as a horrible video. It's still a matter of opinion. We only think there's a "true" standard here because most people on the forum share the same opinion regarding "good" and "bad" editing.

Can't grade vids like a math test. That's one of the reasons our scoring system is so screwed up - everyone has a different standard, a different grading scale. The scale on That Site just seems to be a lot more lenient than ours because, as Jaddz noted, no one is forced to grade the vids they didn't like over there.

I like both luckily. Though when a video is fast and the footage doesn't click with the audio, then get lost. There is an obvious "fastvideo+fastaudio must=well done" thing that goes on with people viewing your typical action video. How someone moves, colors in the scenes, contrast, brightness, expressions, matching to the different elements beside basic beat synch, vocals, etc is a big part of making a great action video. But all you need is the very basic shit I mentioned to please a huge audience and get perfect fives on your score board. So I will find a fast paced video good, as long as it doesn't seem like Stuart from mad tv "look what I can do!"

I didn't mean org-regulated "standards". That's ridiculous... much like that proverbial "bar" that is allegedly set oh-so-high.

I meant that people have THEIR OWN standards set pretty low. Forget that opinion thing. You give them random popular anime on random popular song and they start walking around around with stained pants. That's just bad taste plain and simple. And since it seems to work on supply and demand basis(sadly) we get enormous supply of crap. Because people like crap. Can't get enough of this stuff. They smear it all over the screen and start sniffing it like it's chocolate spread.

It's not only with AMVs but about just about anything. Which is a different topic entirely.

What Scintilla said is kind of optimistic. Yeah it DOES work that way for some people... OK maybe even half of them but there are still people who continue to require...absolutely nothing. Hmm... The way I say it it turns out that people don't make videos for themselves, but to impress others in order to gain... err... internet recognition(???

). Well sadly this is the case for many people so yeah.

Keep in mind what we're dealing one here. One is a site full of mostly college age people who are experienced at AMVs, have seen a lot of AMVs, and do AMVs themselves so they can tell what requires hard work and what doesn't. The other is a site full of mostly teenagers who haven't seen many AMVs, aren't familiar/bored with the typical AMVs, and have no idea how much work went into an AMV. Of course the average ratings are different.

Plus as others have said stars are not required on one site while they are on the other. On that basis alone a fairer comparison would be between the orgs op system and their star system. Lets glance at the op system averages. Hmm, seems that every category but one is over an 8 average. 8 out of 10 average given on the optional rating system here. 4 out of 5 average given on the optional rating there. Sounds like the scores are pretty similar regardless of the site when, for the most part, only people who like the video are giving scores.
