Now, now, quantity doesn't mean that quality has been forgotten. I may watch a lot of videos, but keep in mind that I've stored over three hundred of my favorites on my hard drive as "keepers," and I've listed another 608 on a special document of "Videos to Remember." I don't let myself forget the good ones, even if I don't have the HD space to keep them. Think of it as a personal recommendation "thread." An entry might look something like this:

Noir - Kusoyaro - Suzanne Vega - "Caramel" (Local)

It's useful for several reasons. Firstly, it's very organized (alphabetically by anime). This makes it incredibly easy to find suggestions for other people looking for good videos from a particular anime. Secondly, it tells me who created the video, so that if I see myself entering that username several times, I know to glance at that person's profile for more good videos. Lastly, it tells me the status of the video on the .org, at least at the time I downloaded it (although some of my entries are wrong now on that aspect because of the "three forbidden bands"). Ones lacking a (Direct), (Indirect), or (Local) after them came from the old P2P days. At one point, I took all of those videos and tried to find their .org counterparts so I could update the info correctly if needed.

For me, it's a good system. For others, it might be a disaster to work with. To each their own, I suppose. The point is that "five thousand videos" may seem like a lot, but I do care about what I watch, and I do my best not to let any gems slip by. The implementing of the quick comment system has aided that greatly. Ones that I don't want to keep or jot down will still get constructive comments from me.

Also...
These days, I follow pretty much what godix said about watching the responses on the announcement threads. Other thing I do though is follow on some recommendations by people I know, so at least I'll know their taste in videos are trustworthy...
I do have to nitpick this, because it's one of my greatest annoyances about this site. This is why the same videos win every year in the VCAs. Nobody wants to go out of their way to find something not on the announcement board or through friends - who usually get their info from the same place. Nobody wants to just put an anime in the Super Search and download all of the videos using it. That's what I do. I call it "mass downloading." This is how I find many, many videos that are great, but are never announced. This is also why I have as many downloads as I do (so no, it's not just because I have no life!). Some of these anime have a few hundred videos, and I'm often willing to sift through all of them to get to the "good stuff."

I realize that most people simply don't have the time to do it that way, but when you only rely on the forum and friends as your sources, you miss out on a lot of great stuff.

Yeah, i always force myself to watch a video unless it's really bad. Maybe I should set a cap for myself, lol, 3 vids a week. Or maybe it's just that i see to many videos that are similar ...

In no way did I imply that

No, people can do whatever they want, it's their time and attention. Personally, I'm not a big fan of rushed judgements though. I either watch a whole video, or don't bother with it at all.

its not like i chew them out or anything, or bitch at them, i mean its my own fault for downloading the crappy video...

i usually just qc them something short like "remove the subs" and leave it at that... but if i dont like it or cant watch it then why keep it?

but you gotta understand, i have 17 DVDs (4gb per DVD) of amvs that ive kept around as well... plus all the ones on my computer that ive not burned to disc yet (i should get around to that)

it takes ALOT to make me not want to finish watching a vid O.o but if i cant even start the vid O.o guh...

also, if im doing an opinion exchange or if im supposed to op a video, i will watch it all the way through before i delete it... but thats cause i can give detailed opinions when i want to...

but most videos, i can get through the first part... theres been very few ive deleted with partial viewing

Wait, I'm not supposed to be disrespectful? When the hell did that start?

Anyway if this is a challenge let me know, I can point you to some videos that I bet only a few very twisted bastards could sit through all the way. A depressingly large number of those are in my profile although kitsuner still easily tops me for producing unwatchable crap.

Mind you, I sat through DTSEM and Buttsecks. I'm up for the challenge of things beyond that. :P

I haven't infringed on anyone's IP in a while. Plz dont' sue me.

Anyway, I don't think there are too many AMVs. I do however think that there are too many bad AMVs.

That's entirely different league, man.
There's a difference between videos that are purposely awful and videos that are purposely weird. 'Sat through' shouldn't even apply there. There's many videos most people would hate but I would play on loop. Hell, I made some of these myself
