I hope this hasn't been suggested before, but I'm sorry if it has been. I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a "lock your own thread" ability in the Opinion Exchange forum? I think it would cut down on all of those extra posts that lots of people seem make after the author has "closed" the thread. Also, this would prevent members from having to pester the mods about closing such threads for them. Like I said, it would just be in that forum and only for the author of the thread. Because I know someone will point it out, I'd like to say that this is nothing like asking for an edit button. With a lock feature, you're not altering any of the content of the thread. You're just stopping the flow of traffic - which, you have to admit, would be oh-so-helpful in those free opinion threads that excitable members can't be bothered to read before they post.
Like any feature, it's subject to some abuse. However, outside of the occasional spam poster (and given the specific nature of that forum, I don't really foresee that happening much), I can't personally think of any cons that would outweight the pros. Can you?
Thanks for the consideration.
