  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

that's no way to treat someone who's retiring! What if when you retire the one thing you could count on someone to say was "blah blah blah blah"?

Hmmm.

I can't see why it would be called retirement? I mean it's a hobby and retiring usually means quitting something for good... When I made my first two anime music video back in 1992, I didn't make anything new till 2000 when I got a digital editing card as it was something brand new...

Who knows, maybe in 5+ years there will be something new and exciting to edit with and all those who "retired" will try it and find it "fun" again...

I think you can always challenge yourself in a hobby and try something different, however, if it does stop being fun, then it is best to not do it anymore until the urge is there or else it becomes fun again.

Anyway, take a long break, see where you go with things, and who knows, maybe in “x” years you’ll show the new crop of editors on how it’s done

It makes the whole thing ten times more dramatic and makes everyone else feel better than if she were to say "quitting", makes it sound like a drug or something.....

From a technical standpoint, that was a top notch vid. You could easily put that on a demo-reel for entry into the professional world. But it didn't have any X-factor for me, it's almost like it was TOO pretty (if that makes any sense). The consistancy of the effects, pacing, and overall visual style just made it all seem kind of two-dimensional, like watching a professionally produced music video on MTV.

That being said, it's still a fine piece of work. I encourage you to not limit yourself with statements involving the word "retired". I haven't made a full video in over a year, but I don't discount the possibility that I may make one again sometime. It seems silly to cut yourself off from something that should be so informal that you don't need to declare yourself as an official participant to do it in the first place.

Also ignore people who are giving you crap about this, they're going out of their way to assault you regarding something that shouldn't be worth their animosity or time. Take it easy.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Although I always make a note to download your videos, I originally had not planned on commenting. However... I do have a few things I'd like to say. I'm not feeling very well at the moment, so excuse me if this lacks my normal tact.

Firstly, I'm a fan of that song. I love the singer's voice.

Secondly, I'm am not a fan of the anime, nor do I have any intentions of ever watching it. However, I generally don't mind videos using it, so long as they're done well.

That said, had someone shown me this video unannounced and asked me to pinpoint the editor, I most likely would have included you on the list of possible candidates. Meaning, this is distinctly a silver_moon video, no mistake about it. While that's often times a very good thing (and still so in this case), it's getting a bit used. The Haruhi video was a breath of fresh air, and then you went right back to effectsy drama. However, I suppose I'm not one to talk, since I tend to localize in serious VGMVs and little else. Overall, though, I enjoyed this (although, due to not knowing the source, I wouldn't be keeping it).

About your "retirement," it may seem wishy-washy, but I'm on the fence. I agree somewhat with the ones who will miss you, and somewhat with the ones who think announcing retirement is just stupid. My thoughts are as follows. AMV-ing is a constantly changing hobby, with a seemingly short lifespan. As older great editors file out, newer great editors will file in to take their place. Therefore, I'm not entirely sad about you leaving, because I know I'm not losing any quality. It's simply shifting to a different source. The only thing I'm really losing is your style, which you can believe will be replicated in other videos to come. And unlike other people, I don't call those editors "copycats." I call them talented.

A bit of a drawn out post, I suppose, but I think I got my point across. Great video, nice way to end your run of the hobby, and we can only hope that you'll come back to it someday in the distant future. In the meantime, though, I'll be occupying myself with other quality editors like yourself.

I liked it. but, like for me is a C which means a passing grade. You caught the flow of the song on some parts of the video and did quiet good sync with it. But, the transitions have problems. Some of the trans worked, most of them give me a unpleasant touch. Maybe less light and less showy transitions will help. and watch the ratio of your objects while compositing, distorted ratio can cause "pain".

Have a great retirement and welcome to real life.

KonoE Studio, I will not give good ops because you put in effort. Quality in terms of artistic touch is what I look for.
