I've never lost more than a couple changes. When I started I was using WMM on a laptop with 256 megs of RAM and on-board video. I was lucky if it would go even 5 minutes without freezing up. As a result I got into the habit of saving after almost every change--had to, if I was going to get anywhere. I still save pretty often, but I'm not as paranoid about it as I used to be.

Hmm... when I used Windows Movie Maker 2, I saved constantly. Everytime I added a single clip, I saved. WMM2 had this... thing... where it would crash instantly upon loading, but then it would load up twice as fast and stay running for a long time after that. I don't claim to understand that one, but it happened every single time, so I got used to it. Of course, if you're smart, you don't have anything else running when WMM2 is. Not that that prevents crashing, but it certainly helps.
Now that I use Magix, I find that it doesn't lock up as much - unless I have a "HUEG LIEK XBOX" number of clips on the timeline. Besides, it makes a crazy number of backup files, so if it does happen to crash, I don't lose much. I don't know how often it makes the back up files (and I suppose I can change the setting), but after a few hours of editing, I have about nine of them floating around. What I really like about Magix, though, is that I can have other programs running and it really doesn't take away from its processing speed.
So... the topic here... can a crash be a mixed blessing? Well, after devoting much thought and memory-searching to it... no. I don't think I've ever had a time when I was happy about it crashing. I remember being grateful for the "undo" command fairly often, but never for a crash, really. I can understand where you're coming from, however. It makes sense, but it just hasn't ever happened like that to me.

I can completely relate with that one. Took me a year before I finally caught on to the idea of actually saving the amv after each placed clip. loldj_ultima_the_great wrote:Hmm... when I used Windows Movie Maker 2, I saved constantly. *sighs*
I'm glad those days are over. Premiere can begin to lag or crash from to time, but it's very rare.

You know, even if WMM is a bit buggy, there are usually reasons it keeps crashing. Reasons you can often combat by doing things differently.

Well, in my case getting a new computer worked. I'm guessing that lack of power was my main problem, as the further I got into a project and the more video I had imported, the worse it got. And forget about trying to playback the entire project--wasn't happening. On the other hand, the only problem I had on my last two videos was general bugginess--didn't freeze up once, and I left it open for days while playing WoW.BasharOfTheAges wrote:You know, even if WMM is a bit buggy, there are usually reasons it keeps crashing.
