People stealing AMV's

Hello forum users of a-m-v.org

I must express my upsetness of people who steal/copy AMV's and claim them as their own. I'm sure plenty of other users agree with me when I finish this post. The other day I was pottering around a certain "broadcast yourself/upload your own video" website (Not sure if I should mention the websites name or not, its fairly well known) I thought "Hey I'll check some Inuyasha AMV's see if they have any" To my surprise there was plenty to look through! Then...I recognised a certain AMV title and description...

"Hmm" I thought as I clicked the link. There to my horror was one of MY AMV's uploaded to this website! I watched the video and sure enough it was mine. Not only had the uploader EDITED the video by cutting out my credits and squishing his own in (might I add they did a terrible job) but they claimed it as their 'own work'. People who left comments believed this person and he got all the credit and glory! At this point I was extremely upset. I had worked very hard on this AMV (although personally its not as brilliant as most of the AMV stars out there, but obviously it was good enough for someone to copy, edit and claim as their own). I'm not quite sure what to do. I left a comment on the persons video explaining "thats its not nice to steal videos" and I said "please credit the original creator". The comment was promptly deleted. Getting rather flustered I PM'ed the young man expressing how I felt about him stealing my video and how wrong it was for him to do it. I have yet to receive a reply.

I guess there is not much I can do about it. It still riles me up to think people can do this! The video website also had another 3 copies of my AMV uploaded to its site. 2 were left unedited and original (which cheered me up) but another one had cut my credits out yet again (no further credits were added)

Anyway, thanks for letting me share this with you all, its taken a load of my mind being able to express how uspet and angered I am by lazy insincere people who think "Hey, I like this video, I'll make it mine and then people will think I'm "uber leet" at creating AMV!!" *sigh* If anyone is interested in watching the "original, unedited...MY copy that I created" AMV of Inuyasha please click >here<

Just report the video. It's against their TOS. Sound professional and willing to press charges (though don't claim you will outright) and the videos will be removed soon.

And if enough people complain against the guy... he gets his upload privledges taken away.

youre preaching to the choir... most of us have been "victims" of this... most people are just wanting to share a vid they like, though your situation is ovbiously someone trying to actually steal your work...

someone cut the credits off of my vid once, and when i commented they actually aparently got freaked out and deleted the vid... or something cause it was gone the next day, and all i said was "glad you like the AMV and all but you know not cool cutting off my credits

if they keep giving you issues just follow what the other two said... they are right, and it will get their vid taken down. da tube has been doing sweeps lately and bringing down alot of vids anyways... O.o

ps. even if you were to mention the site it would turn into youtube... (word filters

) most of the locals can tell what youre talking about even without you mentioning the site

Most of us just call it hosatchel to begin with. I type it, and I say it in real life.

I started typing it in my IMs when i was talking about how CNN was talking a lot about it - videos from Isreal and Lebanon and all...

I'm proud to suck at editing...?

But I feel for you, Kitty. Lots of folks have been having that problem on this site, and who knows how many thefts are going unnoticed. The best thing is to take Bashar's advice and continue to check that site every once in a while.

Hope everything gets resolved for you soon.

yeah same here...

though the only place i look or know of amvs is this site.. that'd be cool if someone stole my vid and tried to take credit for it.. that would be like insurance on your video being good.
