uh..
WOW
Grow up please. How can you say an opinion is "Good?" It's understandable to request more than a word or two when reading other people's opinions of your video, but complaining all the time will make viewers have less respect for you. I'm not saying there's much respect for one another on this site because judgements are incredibly harsh and some people are rude. Be the better person and just ignore those types of mean opinions. Pay attention to the ones that genuinely offer advice and become better at what you do. It's obvious to me that you want people to respect you for your amv making skills. All you can do is keep on tryin until eventually you've earned your reputation. I've been doing it and it's been paying off so far. I'm in college too and I know money is tight. I hope your future amv posts will be a little bit more positive.

i was gonna leave an op, but realised you'd probably bitch about it anyway, so i thought i'd be better posting it here and hearing less of your whinging.
Originality - Muse has been used a fair bit, but not overly, same applies for Prince of Tennis, so it's not highly original, but not particularly unoriginal either.
Visual - first off, i downloaded the lq. The quality:filesize:length ratio was whack. You could have pulled off the same quality with a 60 meg file (if you know what you're doing). The footage is obviously downloaded, as it goes from being crisp and clean in places, to looking smudged and slightly interlaced in others.
Sound - Song quality was fine.
Synch - You hit the beats fairly well, it was just the choice of synch and the way you edited to them that put me off. Like the constant blur on the bass beat in the background.
Effects - if giving you a score i'd give you 6. The effects imo were cheesy. The collage effect looked horrible and didn't at all suit the atmosphere and mood you were presenting. The blur's on the bass beats were horrible. They would have been fine used less often, or maybe if you'd chosen another more subtle effect, but geez. It really annoyed the crap outta me.
Effort - yeh you put some effort in. Next time put some effort into remembering all the information for your first post so you don't 'accidently' keep pumping the thread.
Re-view - Practically nothing. And no this isn't because i dislike the anime before you start that argument
there are plenty of videos i like that use animes i hate. For instance: i hate Naruto, but there are plenty of Naruto videos i love. The reason it has no reviewability for me is because it has no storyline whatsoever. And before you start on the "read the video info" rant, let me tell you: the majority of people on a-m-v.org will tell you that they like a video that presents its own story. IE: you can watch the video and understand what is going on, and the storyline involved. No amv fan wants to read 10 pages of notes to understand an amv, no matter HOW good the amv is. This video to me was a random collection of some guy playing tennis. You have little to no storyline happening within the video. And no i'm not going to read your 10 pages of notes so i can understand it, because i might as well go and read a summary of the anime
Overall - there is a lot you can improve on. Although i will admit your editing is pretty decent, you just need to learn to pick your effect choices better (or maybe try using none, and then moving upwards from there), and to use a bit more internal synch. The only thing i think you overall need to work on is your attitude and constant thread bumping.

Compress your audio. That'll shave a good 50mbs off this video. Then you can use file size to reflect visual quality - there was noise all over the place, and that's unnacceptable for a 140mb "High quality" video. If you don't know any filters, there are some good ones listed in the guide just a few clicks away from the one that tells you how to compress your audio. You'll get more downloads - and thus more feedback - if your video is a reasonable size.
Bad delivery. Your forum ettiquette is awful. You told Prodigi you didn't want to hear about 'good' videos from him. What are you thinking? If you don't want feedback from anyone you don't consider "good" then don't post in the open forum. PM or email the people you think are good so you only hear from the ones you think good enough to dare speak to you about your video. If you make an announcement thread, you're inviting anyone who feels like responding. And, no, posting 4 times in a row won't help you get more downloads. They aren't downloading because the file size is ridiculously huge and bumps in the thread don't change that.
Good video. I'm not sure why you cut it off where you did, and I didn't really see the growth you were aiming for in the (yes, very long) vid description. If you wanted it to look like Ryoma 'grew along the way' then you should have shown a difference in skill from the beginning to end. Even when he's getting picked on by Akutsu, he's still not looking weak. Growth implies he started at some not very good level and then grew great. You don't even have him fighting opponents in order of increasing strength - you switched around from Yuuta to Shinji to that Golden retriever guy and used Atobe like he was weaker than Sanada. And Sanada didn't even show anything in his match that was a sign of Ryoma's strength - like how that was the point where Ryoma started copying the moves of the people he'd played against (the key important thing about that match, at least in the anime). And the same for Tezuka's final match against him, the climax of your video. You came to the main 'fight' and just stopped. Less filler leading up to that would have left more room for the actual 'story' you were telling. Those fast 1/2 second frames set to the soft flowing piano were rough, harsh footage that didn't really match the soft music. It was neat during the harder, dramtic parts, but even when I turned up the audio (like you said to), the piano still wasn't hard enough for that sort of heavy-handed editing. More fades, fewer frames, slower switches - don't overload the viewer when the song isn't doing the same. I like the switch of focus over to the rest of the team, and random bystanders like Kajimoto during Ryoma's matches. I liked some of the blurs for beat-sync. The multi-pic scenes were a little sharp - try making the edges blend into each other so it looks more natural to the anime.
And, yeah, I've seen the anime. I've seen every animated thing that goes with the series (seen the ovas yet?) and read most of the manga. I read your vid description, too. I still don't think the story came out that well and I can't see how anyone unfamiliar with the anime will see this as anything more than a somewhat dramatic random action video. There just isn't an obvious progression in his matches from the beginning to the end of the video. For those who know the anime, it's worse - because you skip around and leave significant opponents out in favor of others who have little significance. I think you're trying to hard. What makes the video enjoyable is the editing and the focus on Ryoma and a few of his key opponents. The song's nice too. Don't push your intended story down people's throats - they won't get it just because you tell them to. Let them find their own reasons for liking or disliking the video. That's the point of sharing your vid with a large unfiltered audience - the viewer takes it how he wants and the creator has no say in the matter.
If you need help compressing your audio - open the video in Virtualdub and save the wav file. Compress it to mp3 in BeSweet and reattach it to the video in nandub. Those programs can be found by browsing the guide. There are better ways, but that would require actually reading the guides in depth and using a few filters when you go to compress the video. For a quick fix, you can get the video down to 60mbs and have a local copy available. That should get you some Quick Comments and let more people download this.

ok, a few things:
1) I *did* show ryoma growing. He never *is* weak throughout the entire series, he just gets better moves and gets more confident as time goes on, he never ever actually sucks at any given point though besides getting owned by sanada.
2) as for the video being "smudged", that's the *actual artwork*. PoT is famous for having tons of different animators, the majority of who sucked ass.
3) for the piano scene, i was trying to replicate what was going through ryoma's mind during that actual scene in the anime, which is basically learning every single move in the series up to that point.
4) Ileia just said that "some videos have to have the info read to get them". That's what I was talking about.
5) I want to make AMV's for the enjoyment of other people and myself, so i'm not just making them ONLY for me.
6) Again, I don't bitch or moan about opinions, only if they're baseless opinions, i.e. without knowing anything about the series, so yes, there are good opinions.
Everyone else in this thread's opinion so far, I like, because you're giving constructive critique, although a lot of it such as the comments about smudged video, when it's actually how the series looks, and not showing growth, when i showed all that you can show, shows that you don't know much about the anime :-/
also... wtf?
7) I never had the golden retreiver guy once in the entire AMV... I only had his son, and Atobe *is* weaker than Sanada according to the anime. I know it's not that way in the manga, but according to the anime, yes, he is.
Also, I did have them going in order of increasing strength with that one exception to going backwards, because again, I was trying to tie the scenes in with the lyrics, etc. "everything you are, everything YOU WERE" so I had to use one of the first matches.
Anyways, gotta go, will probably post more later, you can say or think what you want about me, but I really do enjoy critique, negative or positive, as long as it's got a base to it.

That's the problem. If the viewer has seen the anime, he knows this, and he knows that there's no way to show him getting better without watching the actual anime. The story is almost doomed to failure before you even start just because the anime takes a few hundred episodes to have Ryoma grow in a way that's nearly impossible to tell, since he was so absurdly perfect to begin with.otbwavelength wrote:1) I *did* show ryoma growing. To show how he went from "better than anyone but Tezuka" to "better than anyone at all", you could have started with Ryoma in his moments of doubt. Like when Shinji caught him in his spot, when he was losing point after point trying to find a way to break Fuji's higuma otoshi, you could have emphasized his devastation after being thoroughly trashed by Tezuka and later Sanada, or even his non-game moments of weakness like when Tezuka slapped him for wanting to play Kevin too soon, or Akutsu attacking him and his freshman friend. This video didn't show more than a second or two of *any* moment where Ryoma looked weak. There are moments. They don't last long, no, because he's perfect to start with, but they're there.
It's not the flashing clips so much as the way they're flashed. They're sharp and hard and the piano notes (in the beginning) aren't. Fade them into each other more, or add some sort of color filter so the bright PoT colors aren't as sharp. Blur the edges a little or grayscale or something so it looks like memory and not just a fastforward of the series.3) for the piano scene, i was trying to replicate what was going through ryoma's mind during that actual scene in the anime, which is basically learning every single move in the series up to that point.
You submitted it to a con, right? The people attending won't have access to your vid description. All they'll have is the video itself and whatever they can draw from it.4) Ileia just said that "some videos have to have the info read to get them". That's what I was talking about.
I don't know the name of the retriever guy's son. That's how insignificant he is, see? He's shown in twice after the first episode - both times as *filler* episodes. It just seemed really weird to go from important opponents to...him. Is he important in any way except to be the villain in an episode with the freshmen, and to have a little volley ball fun?also... wtf?

I'd love to get into a PM exchange with you about Sanada versus Atobe.

Sanada is stronger than Atobe in the manga, btw. He and Yukimura are the strongest in the series, then Tachibana (shock), then Ryoma, then Tezuka and Fuji (who never have a serious match to compare strength, unlike the anime). I was just basing strength off the anime when I made my Atobe vs. Sanada comment. In the manga, you're absolutely right. ^.~
Fun vid. I'd love to see you tackle one of the more minor characters or teams from Tenipuri.

sorry im going to have to dissagree there O.O id say allot more people then 99% of amvs have been made using ripped footage or else I wouldnt be giving A&Es guide to everybody that comes to me asking how to make amvs O.Ootbwavelength wrote: you do realize that 99% of the amv's on this site break that downloaded video rule right?t to mention the video.
but there are allot of amv that used downloaded footage like well my old video

I knew about those scenes, and I would have done them but remember; I was trying to fit the lyrics to the scenes and vice versa. Therefore, showing him getting owned when the lyrics are saying "you've got to be the best" wouldn't really fit.Arigatomina wrote:That's the problem. The lyrics saying "your hard times are ahead" though, I did show the Deep Impulse and the clip of Ryoma getting smashed in the face back by Akutsu, even though it was a feint etc.
I didn't want to include Kevin because really, I felt that match and Kevin in general were just anti-climatic etc.
I agree with this. I realized that I should have done some more effects there, but I was hard-pressed for time; I started the movie in March and with college + two films I was also working on, I just got screwed for time, but I admit yeah I could have done that better. It's not the flashing clips so much as the way they're flashed. I wanted to especially do the linking of the scenes w/the pitch of the music, but doing that in premiere is an absolute pain in the ass. Do you know of any programs that make it any easier to "keysound" things? I.e. when I did this video, I did everything by ear, meticulously replaying milliseconds of a clip over and over and over to make SURE i had it down on the exact beat, but pitch was a different matter altogether.
I realize that. I don't expect anyone at the con to get all the little nuances that I explained in the info, but i'm rather baffled that so many people so far in this community seem to not be able to pick up on even the smallest little points, like how Tezuka is an important person he wants to beat, or even that I linked the scenes to the lyrics and such. :-/You submitted it to a con, right? The people attending won't have access to your vid description. All they'll have is the video itself and whatever they can draw from it.
He's also shown as the entire end credits to the series (the background i mean) and in multiple episodes as the start of the episode title and such, so I guess the creator felt him to be really important, as it was the first match of the seriesI don't know the name of the retriever guy's son. That's how insignificant he is, see? He's shown in twice after the first episode - both times as *filler* episodes. It just seemed really weird to go from important opponents to...him. Is he important in any way except to be the villain in an episode with the freshmen, and to have a little volley ball fun?

Again, I was matching the lyrics to the song. I wanted to show how he went from "everything you are" aka evolving, changing as a person, to "everything you were" aka being static, before he gets his ass kicked by Tezuka and decides to become better. Yes I know, the Shinji match was before the Tezuka match, but again, i'm trying to make that seamless and mix up the storyline some.
True, Atobe beat Tezuka, but it was with Tezuka being heavily injured. Also, I mean that Atobe was *weaker* than Sanada at that time in the anime. Once Atobe got practice, and got his tannhauser serve, I would considr him equal with Sanada.I'd love to get into a PM exchange with you about Sanada versus Atobe. We're not allowed to do versus threads here anymore, but it would be really fun. In the anime, Atobe crushed Tezuka with just a little psychological gameplay. His aborted match against Sanada was never finished, but they were evenly matched - enough so that they were made doubles partners later. If we're ignoring opinions and just using the anime as a reference, there are no episodes where Sanada shows he's a better player than Atobe. The only time Ryoma even plays Atobe is during the 'invitational practice' episodes with Hyoutei. Do you consider that a real match? I wondered why you used clips from that match, but if you see Sanada as stronger, then it makes sense.
The reason also why I would say Sanada > Atobe is because Ryoma kept up with Atobe during the practice before Rikkaidai, and tied him easily, coming back at last, even without tiebreakers.
Sanada however beat the hell out of Ryoma at first, and Ryoma was only able to come back by going into the anime version of SOSA, whereas with Atobe he could pull off a tie easily without going into that mode. And yeah, I saw that as a real match, because if Ryoma didn't consider it as a real one, I doubt he would have "evolved" and created the Cyclone smash as a retaliation to beat Atobe.
I would, but honestly, after seeing how many people amazingly don't like the series, I dunno about that.Fun vid. I'd love to see you tackle one of the more minor characters or teams from Tenipuri.
I'm considering making an AMV to another "underdog in the AMV world" series, Eyeshield 21. I'd be using a generic song, "Attack" by "30 seconds to mars", but I feel the lyrics would really fit that series.
