• Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
 • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
 • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
 • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Final Fantasy: Unlimited (My First AMV!)

Post by noodles355 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 11:56 am

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=106758

Took long enough to host the thing, stupid college internet system ¬.¬
Anyway, I finally got it uploaded! (yay!) It's my first attempt at a music video, but one that I had been mulling over for a while in a "if I do one, it would be that" kind of way.

The only problems I had with it were: a) when I imported the ripped .avis into premier pro, they were inversed and upside down and nasty, luckilly I had tried with Windows Movie Maker and had an .wmv of all the clips I wanted(I was using WMM until I descovered it was rubbish), so I imported that, and b) I couldn't preview it in premier because my laptop's too slow and retarded.

So Yeah, I give you: Kaze from FF:U to Sonne by Rammstein!
(Rammstein isn't my no.1 choice for listening, I'm more of a jamiroquai fan :p, but it worked for the footege methinks.)

I'm thinking something dedicated to Fruits Basket's Kyo to Jamiroquai's Black Capricorn Day could be a good choice for the next one...if there's a next one hmmm...

Comments much appreciated!

And the lack of an edit button catching me by surprise is kind of embarrasing. Great first impression numnuts, geeze. Sorry about that. ¬_¬

Come on! Can someone at least look at it? It's my first attempt so some feedback would be nice. -.-

okay, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and downloaded your vid - mainly because that I liked FF-U. So, a brutally honest opinion:

the good
use of FF-U
the song

the bad
you have major video quality issues in this piece. Major macroblocking, major pixelation and major video errors too.

Your audio isn't much better as it is full of pops and cracks that drove me nuts. You made very little attempt to match the imagry to what was going on in the music and those that you did match up were very few and far inbetween.

There was no rhyme or reason to what was going on visually and it very much seemed like just random images.

It seemed that you gave up a lot of quality to get it down in size - too much so. I'd ramp up the quality issue next time.

I'd suggest going back to the guides and re-reading the sections - especially on video quality and audio work. For a first attempt, this is passible - you have a lot more learning to do, young padewan..

Bad n00b, don't beg!

Seriously though, don't ask for people's opinions, it'll just make 'em annoyed, people will give feedback if they want and if they don't...well...yeah.

If you want a proper op, go and pimp yourself in the opinion exchange forum, don't go begging in this one, only famous creators generally get replies to announcements...

But i'll tell you some things for free: the video wasn't bad for a first attempt, a bit rough around the adges, but the basics are there, the timing was a bit off in places and you missed some major points in the music that i think you could have done a lot more with, but you got some good ones.

Also, there were quite a few interlacing artifacts in the footage, I don't know whate region DVDs you were working with but for pre-processing your footage the best place to start is to Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides, then ask questions in the video software help forum if you don't understand, but read it all first, then ask.

Good for a first try but there's lots of room for improvement, you've got potential, don't waste it.

Something must have gone wrong somewhere... after I test downloaded it, it appeared to work fine, if there's pixelation maye I should try compresing it diferently... The timing should be pretty much ok aswell, I spent the most time lining up some of the scene changes to the song so I'm not sure what's gone on, but there are so many good poiints in the song I thought it would appear bitty I guess
As far as interlacing, I did read the FAQ during the making, but took a shortcut somewhere along the line, and as for the DVDs, they are PAL (Region 2) DVDs. Maybe something did happen in the compression, afterall it was compressed from 1gb to 30mb...

Oh, and thanks. In my infinite n00bness I failed to notice that this was only an announcement forum, not a feedback one aswell. My bad ><.
I'll try harder. More plot needed, better compression, got it.

Ah, the woes of PAL DVDs...i feel your pain...the only real way to work with them is to do some really harsh de-interlacing through AVS and put up with ghosting to be honest...

I actually thought it was very good for a first try. I use a backwater program that my friend made me to make AMV's with, and the file type is some weird thing that no one can host. TT__TT

I, at least, enjoyed it.
