What if a song can only be got by downloading?

what was the topic again? oh yea, dont steal...

if the download is LEGAL then go for it, if its illegal and you CAN buy the CDs for it, then just buy the CDs.

No, the whole thing is about OC remixes.
If an OC remix is ok to use as source material since it's downloaded, and downloading songs is against the site rules.

It's definately not about getting high and mighty about someones sig, it's not about 'don't ask don't tell', it's not about any of the other stuff.

The answer is: go ahead and use it. If you contact the person that made the Remix they might be able to get you a higher quality version. It's been done before.

I was answering the GENERAL Question.

but what if its a legal download like you pay for Napster or something? is that still against site rules? I wouldnt think so because its a legal download...

some music groups have legal downloads of their music on their sites, they are legal, not usually the best quality, but still they give full permission for people to download their music, to me thats like taking a FREE CD at something like Vans Warped Tour, you obtained the music legally and didnt steal it (because they are giving them away) so technically I dont really see the problem in using it in an AMV...

as for the remixes, I am not sure what that's sites rules are, and it would probably do better to ask them if its alright... (I didnt click or notice the link) and considering they didnt remove the link I would think that they are legal eh?

Thou shalt not use downloaded video footage to make AMVs.
Thou shalt not use downloaded music to make AMVs.

I've about had it with this "rules" business. Downloading anything is not against site rules. It is against site ETHICS. There is a huge difference, whether you choose to believe it or not. Yes, downloading footage and music is ILLEGAL, but it is NOT against site rules, so quit saying that.

Until Phade himself says any different, that's what I'm going by.

I seem to remember this coming up a short while ago. The problem with legal downloads like Napster is that they have some DRM stuff attached that you have to strip away if you want to use, or even listen to once your subscription is over. The video I linked to is pretty popular, and shows (in my opinion) the right way to get an remix.

The real problem with using something like one of those remixes is that it's a lot like taking the effects out of someones video and using it for your own. Less of an issue than whether or not it's ok to use it if you asked.

The solution if you're not sure is to PM a mod and ask.
