Love Hina AMV... DON'T SHOOT!!! *ducks*

Post by cmdshft » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:49 am

Yes, I know, this one is probably over done (Im talkng about the anime). But I couldn't resist. A friend from another forum I frequent came up with the idea, and I just couldn't let it sit and simmer, I had to do it.

The anime, as mentioned, is Love Hina, and the song used is Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega. I think that overall the video is great, the only thing I don't like is the fact that DVDx f***ed up on me (you'll see what I mean...) Anyone know why it did that?

Also need to mention that this video was the first video that was made using VirtualDubMod on my computer. I have to say, it was quite enjoyable using that program, had it for a while, and it took me a while to figure out how to make clips, but once I did, I loved every moment of it, especially using the XviD Codec.

Please leave your comments here. Hopefully you will all think that this is my best one yet, or at least as good as my other video, Show Time.

Enjoy! ^_^

Ugh... Stuck up... I got a quick comment, and personally didnt like it. I can take criticism, but if you read the description I gave in the video info page, you will see that I didnt care about overall quality, sound encoding. I just wanted this video to be overall a fun AMV.
Porunga's Vid Info wrote:This video is supposed to be a fun loving video about the famous five. Quality is not an issue at this point, because the point of the vid is to be just overall fun and loving, and I think the song really helps make it feel as such. So I hope you all enjoy the video.
Point: I did this video for a friend, and as stated above, I don't care about quality, I explained the reason the video had technical errors in it, yet you seem to not have read that. I know the quality was iffy, blame that on DVDx, no matter how many times I encoded the .vob files, it gave the same errors. So I dealt with it. No biggy. And in my opinion, the music works fine with the video, I don't see the need to encode, it sounds fine, there is syncing, so that was a bad comment whoever made it.

Also, I don't use those high quality editing programs you guys are lucky enough to afford. So please, in your comments, take that into account. A college kid using whatever he can get his hands on/afford.

I can uderstand constructive critiscism, but that was way to quick of a comment to be constructive, should have just said, "Nah, I dont really like it, but good shot."

If you're offering that as an excuse for the video quality, then consider that the ripping and pre/postprocessing tools that a lot of us use around here are all free... <a href="/guides/avtech/amvapp.html">the AMVapp</a> contains tools that can do the same tasks as DVDx, and probably better (based on what you said about the program).

And <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... ompressing your audio</a> would cut down on the file size significantly.

Hope this helps.

Um, maybe I'm just going out on a limb here, but a video being "overall fun and loving" should include an attempt to be watchable quality-wise. Because it's hard to appreciate even fantastic editing if it looks like everyone's swimming through Jell-O pixels.

Scintilla has some good advice. All the tools I use for encoding my videos are freeware.

I did get the AMVapp. I even used VDM, but DVDx was the one giving me trouble. (Everyone I have shown it too here where I live has loved it, so it must be watchable...)

As for ripping, I used DVDDecryptor.
For compression I used DVDx. Which as mentioned, gave me trouble with the "Jell-O Pixels".
VDM to select the clips I wanted and save them in XviD format.
ArcSoft Showbiz to put the clips in order and sync to the music, which was in .wav format, which synced the best (I used .mp3 to try and sync, but final product was proven to be unsynced... :?)
Then I again used VDM to compress that final video further into XviD.

Is it easier to use WMM than Showbiz? I still have WMM1, and I am not going to upgrade to WMM2.

Also, someone said that the music didn't work with the video, I'm guessing they meant how the music fitted the video. I think it worked well, especially with the number sequence and Keitaro in the beginning.

=================

Is there a new version of the AMVapp up? I never recieved DVD2AVI in my download. And is there anything better than Showbiz and WMM1 that is free? Again, a college student using only what he can afford, which isn't much.

The bolded areas are the problems. XviD should never be used to edit with, DVDx absolutely sucks (I know from first-hand experience; I used to use it), and then you recompressed it again. DVDx isn't even necessary in the first place since VDubMod can open the ripped VOBs just fine.

The proper way to do it would be DVD Decrypter -> VirtualDubMod -> HuffYUV, Lagarith, MJPEG, or Uncompressed video -> editing program -> HuffYUV, Lagarith, or Uncompressed export -> final XviD encode.

DGIndex (which is the successor of DVD2AVI) can be found here. DGMPGDec.dll needs to be put into your AVISynth plugins folder. The DGIndex executable can be put in its own folder if you so desire.

You might try <a href="http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweist ... i-Stein</a>. I know I saw another free video editing program that looked pretty promising just the other week, but I appear to not have bookmarked it. Oh, here it is: <a href="http://www.bobyte.com/AviTricks/index.asp">AviTricks</a>.

Of course, if you don't mind switching to Linux, there's also Cinelerra and Kino and who knows what else...
