A short while ago I said you were one of the editors I'd download anything from regardless of source/idea. Then you have test me by putting up a Naruto action vid. Well fine. I downloaded the thing like I said I would but I was cursing under my breath the entire time...
As a Naruto vid it's fairly decent, above average certainly. Compared to your other work though it felt like you relied on beat sync and effects rather than your usually good ability to present a mood and story, especially towards the end. It was decent action sync and effects but the video suffers from the Euphoria effect You know the Euphoria effect, where the viewer goes 'There was a story? Sorry, I was too busy admiring the effects to notice.'

Really? I do tend to lean more towards edited related synchs naturally, so I actually tried to do a good mix of both kinds of synchs in this one. ALot of the onscreen action is in fact timed to something in the song, including punches, characters hitting something (weather it be a wall or the water, etc) blinks, and various other character movement actions. Oh, if you saw this at AWA and are commenting from that, it played slightly out of synch on the big screen and made alot of it look like it wasn't synched >.<SSJVegita0609 wrote:I like a lot of things about this, especially the forthought placed into mixing action/drama. It does, however, suffer from the same problem I see in videos like Whispers of the Beast. The synch is entirely devoted to your own editting, with very little emphasis placed on synching the actual action occuring in the shots. Most of the time, you pick scenes that have the right speed, but not neccessarily the right motion to synch with the music, which is instead done so with effects/transtions/cuts. A very clear example of this is the Naruto/Sasuke fight near the end of the video. It's paced very well, but the punches, hits, and general moves aren't synched with the music in a manner that grabs my attention, which is instead held by the sheer amount of motion you create on the screen. This style isn't bad, per se, just not my favorite when it comes to action. In action vids, I like to see a big beat timed with a big hit, etc etc (The OV vids are perfect examples of what I'm talking about, footage related synch vs editting related). All in all, it's still a pretty rawking vid, just no real X factor for me.
4/5 stars.

I will admit theres a few instances that I will agree with you here. I favored story and continuation (of the fight) over finding something to better fit elsewhere in this case. Guess thats a limitation in making a linear story rather than random action.
Thanks for the comments everyone

Sorry for double post, ment to reply to this one too and hit submit too quick.
Heh, I do realize a few people, especially those not familair with the events and characters in naruto may not get the story easily. Awell this is probably one of those more aimed to the fans of the series. You will see more of the type of videos you like from me, so next time I guess ;p Funny, since I usually prefer effects that don't give you the euphoria effect and overpower the video. I tried to be carefull about that, but meh.godix wrote: but the video suffers from the Euphoria effect You know the Euphoria effect, where the viewer goes 'There was a story? I think it's interesting that your first attempt at an action video landed you this prestigious award. I also think it's interesting that YOU CAN GO STRAIGHT TO HELL MR. PERFECT!!!

But seriously now, I really enjoyed the video. I got a real kick out of the story you told, lots of emotional impact there. I also enjoyed the prominent use of Hinata, as I am a big fan of that character.

I loved your amv [of course. lol] There was nothing wrong with it to me the effects and sync were fine or I guess I'm not that picky but anyways I loved it and the song is addicting to listen to.
So far I think Naruto is good even though I've only seen the 1st episode on cartoon network. But I can kind of of figure out what the story is in the video.
Well anyways I will try to give my full detailed opinion when I have the chance. =)

Synch and editing were excellent, great job
You should try using another program at least for doing motion maybe, the blocky and rough premiere motion was really noticable in some parts :p
The anime is keeping me from really liking it even if you used many scenes I haven't seen yet in other amvs. I just can't see those characters and faces and the whole style anymore >_<

When they started this video as the Best Action I was like wtf? for the first 30 seconds or so. After that I really got into it and liked the concept.

Awesome job bakadeshi

Awesome job bakadeshi

An ocean of dust and randomly strung together pieces of hydrogen, serving no purpose other than allowing all of us to continue in our misery, doomed to an enternity of petty squabbles and meaningless ego trips, until the whole thing one day explodes and starts the whole shebang all over again. - Chaos_Angel

Thanks glad you liked it ^^
JenCM18: glad you liked it

JCD: yea yea... only Naruto would work for this idea though. And I wanted to give Hinata some love she doesn't get much. I did use After effects Tryout on this, and couldve used it for the motion effects, but I had already done all of the shacky camera efffects in premeire before I even decided I needed AE for any of it, so I didn't have time to go through and redo everything before the deadline. I do admit AE's movement controls are more superior, its what I used in the middle section (rasengan vs Chidori fight right after hospital scene with Hinata) and it came out smoother.
Tyler_yj: Thanks, I'm a big fan of your works btw.

bloodyfang: haha yea my brother also had the same exact reaction, he was like "um... this isn't action...." I just said "just watch it, you'll see".
I'm sure everyone in the audience was probably thinking that. Anyway thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I tried to make that vengeance fight look intense, glad you liked it.
Once again thanks for all the comments

And thanks to those that left ops also, I have read them all, will respond when I have the time to do so properly ^^
