5months late Final fantasy check it out

Post by Daajester » Thu Sep 08, 2005 12:42 am

ok so here it is finally I went to upload it bout 5months ago and my ftp programs temp usage ran out just before I could upload it....well now Ive fixed that.....better late than never right ^^.
The footage: FFX FFX2
The Song: Anywhere by Evanesence
before ya sign it off as another craptastic evanesence vid give it a chance and check it out. I used alot of overlay in this vid...almost evey scene to be exact...the reason being it was supposed to sort of represent how the 2 worlds of tidus/yuna & lenne/shujin were blurrred together and now and again one would sort of bleed through and take over...just check it out I think its a pretty good ff vid, so if ya love ff ya should like it....well at least I hope ya enjoy it ^^

ok so i got a reply from someone who was a lil pissed bout me rating one of their vids horribly...well it was horrible....but they then went and trashed my vid that has gotten pretty good reviews from all...anyhow just venting and hoping no one else gives piss pore ratings because you are mad of a review that you got that was deserved..I mean if I deserve a piss poor rating thats one thing but to do it just to be spiteful thats just not being constructive and very unessecary.

Like usual, FF videos don't get a lot of attention, so I generally make a note to check them out. Thus, I downloaded and watched yours. Here are my thoughts:

Stuff I Liked
- concept. Despite being an Evanescence piece, the song truly does work well for X and X-2. It's a personal favorite of theirs to me, so I like to see videos put to it, just to see what's been done.

Stuff I Was Iffy About
- video quality. It was obvious from the logos that this was downloaded, and that was a little distracting. However, the stuff from ffx2.net is surprisingly good, so it wasn't as bad as I might have thought originally.
- overlays, effects, and transitions. The overlays are pretty and all, but it was just so overdone in this video that I got sick of it. Also, the excessive use of them throws off your timing, which ought to be one of the central components of any video. I only spotted one or two effects and transitions, and that fact alone is why they weren't that great. It seemed completely random to only see a couple throughout the entire video, and not even in places where it made sense to have them.
- mood sync. Your mood was there for the most part - and yes, this does tie in with concept. However, there were times when it was off. For example, no truly serious/romantic video should be using the blitzball tournament. None. That's just my one example, but there were a couple other points.

Stuff I Didn't Like
- timing. The beat sync was barely noticable. I felt like I was just watching some rehash of X and X-2 set to music. That's not what I want to see in a video. I want to feel like some story is being told (this negates action videos, of course) to me.

All in all, I can't say that I really enjoyed this video. It wasn't horrible, by any means, but I had a tough time just sitting through it once. I guess my suggestion would be this: don't worry about "remastering" the video and making it look as pretty. Instead, get back down to the basics of beat sync and practice. In your technical advances, I feel like you're losing your creativity and attention to detail. Those are just my thoughts, anyway. I've seen your work before, so I know you're not a bad editor. You might have just forgotten the core elements somewhere along the way.
