Technical uploading issue - not a newbie

Post by dj_ultima_the_great » Fri Sep 02, 2005 9:14 am

This is the fourth time I've addressed this problem, and to be honest, I'm getting irritated. The previous times, I simply put it in another thread where the person was having the same issue, but I was never helped.

Please don't link me to moonslayer's guide. I have read it, and I understand it. The issue I've been having has nothing to do with my comprehension of the guide.

I believe I made it clearest in my third post, so I'll reference you to that:
I have uploaded nine videos. For the first eight, I used the trial version of CuteFTP that the site gives you as a n00b-link. That worked just fine for me. For the ninth one, I used CuteFTP 7 Professional. It worked the first time. Then, when I tried uploading a friend's videos (to her own account, of course), it would disconnect part of the way through (at different points each time - I tried about six times) with every attempt.

Thus, I haven't been able to upload anything.

So, I ditched the old method and tried the way the guide says to do it (with Internet Explorer). Well, it worked up until the point I'm at right now. It says "ten seconds remaining." Unfortunately, it's been telling me that for the past half hour.

Troubleshooting?

Thanks.
Please help me. Nothing is working, and I'd really like to upload my friend's videos for her and get them off of my hard drive already. I'd like to be able to upload my future videos as well. I can't do that if no one helps. So, please?

Have you tried going to the Confirm Video page to see if the video made it onto the server? Whenever I upload large files using Internet Explorer for FTP, it always stays at "ten seconds remaining" even after it's done...
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

hmmm, not quite sure why it would be doing that for you. Personally when ever i tried uploading directly with my browser it doesn't work.

I use Filezilla, a totally free program and it works just fine for me, maybe try it out and see if it might work.

Kusoyaro - I did get to the confirm page, but my internet crashed when I tried to look at the video info page. I'll try the upload again, and when it reaches that point, I'll see if it goes. It seems like a weird anomaly...

WhereNext - I've never tried that before. In fact, most of that page you linked me to is Greek to me. I'll...see what I can do with it if Kusoyaro's solution doesn't do the trick.

Erm...that sounds like a separate problem  (I hope).

But yeah, I started a video upload at home before I left for work this morning...Confirm Video tells me the upload is complete, but $10 says my computer at home still says "10 seconds remaining".

Let me know how it goes!

Yeah, that is a different one. My brother has a router, so both computers in my house can run the internet. Unfortunately, it causes...a great many connection problems... I mean, it does stay connected long enough to upload something, but at least twice a day I have to reassert the connection.

I did try the upload again a while ago. I'm doing slightly better. This time is says five seconds remaining!!! -_- *sigh*

Seriously, though, still no dice. It's not giving me the link to download it on the info page.

Come to think of it, could the router be causing any problems? As in, something outside of the disconnections I already notice.

Ugh. This is confusing.

if you think it might be your router, why don't you try disconnecting your router and connecting directly that way you can see if it is the router atleast.

It probably is. Just about every browser I know of has trouble rendering that page due to the large number of items to be loaded.

Brain-dead Internet security programs (read: Norton crap) also trigger their protection mechanisms on that page for some reason.

Some FTP clients have issues when they get very close to finishing the upload. Konqueror's FTP ioslave had this issue once.

I'd contact derobert, ask him to monitor the upload, and then start uploading. Having information available server-side will aid a diagnosis.

trythil - if my next attempt doesn't work, I'll try getting ahold of dero. I'm moving to college tomorrow, so maybe that'll affect it somehow. So, I'll try it under those conditions and see what happens - both with CuteFTP and the IE method. Either way, I can't do it tonight. My mom is insisting on taking apart my computer... ...I had to use my best skills of persuasion just to get a extra few hours...

WhereNext - I tried losing the router and forming a direct connection, but...it wouldn't connect, even after a restart of the system. My brother was chagrined at that one, since he put on the router to begin with. So, like I said above, I'll just wait until I'm settled in at college and see what happens.

I can only hope things work out... *double sigh*

Okay, this is officially driving me crazy.

I did my last ditch try for uploading, and here are the results:

I'm at college right now (just moved in). Therefore, I didn't have a router to deal with. My connection speed is godly, so I don't have to worry about logout issues.

I tried using the IE method again, and it worked perfectly The file appeared exactly as it should have at the FTP URL. Then, I go to confirm the video...and the same thing that keeps happening happens again. It's not there for me to download and check it.

So, I tried CuteFTP. Worked like a charm - no hitches! - until the confirm page. I click on the video info, and, sure enough, no video is there to download. As far as I can tell, there were no disconnections.

Since I'm at my wits' end, I'm just going to post exactly what the command part of CuteFTP said:
*** CuteFTP 7.0 - build Mar 10 2005 ***

I'm sorry, because that's a lot to read through, but maybe one of you can see something that I'm missing. Nothing looks wrong to me. Ignore the first log in problem. I thought I'd just post everything for the sake of being thorough.

At this point, either I'm missing something painfully obvious, or I need the hand of derobert to come in and rescue me. If any of you can make something of what I've just told you, please help. If not, then I'm finding dero.
