My mom dislikes anime intensely, but I think that's more a function of some misconceptions she has of anime in general than anything else. I think she thinks its all really badly animated crap with really horrible dubbing that doesn't match the movement of the mouths. I am trying to change her mind somewhat, but I'm not going to force it on her. A while back I was watching some Trigun when she was around and I actually got her to admit, "It wasn't as bad I thought it would be."
Is it wierd for our parents to like animes?

I don't think that it's strange that some parents enjoy anime, but it seems like not so many people of the Baby Boom generation and beyond like it so much. I think that it's probably just because the are a different generation with different expectations from entertainment. Granted, I know this doesn't hold true in every case!

That was a lot like my Dad's impression of anime (though he also thought it was mainly soft-core porn, or at least of questionable morality).
He's been slowly changing his views over the past few years. Hey, he did start watching Inuyasha without any proding from me. Even got upset with my sister when she forgot to set up the VCR to record it one night.

I am a rabid Inuyasha fangirl! Fear me!

Well said, mine is now 28, a programer, makes more than I ever have and buys more anime than I could afford. He's my anime library, aren't kids great.SarahtheBoring wrote:
Parents, it's not all bad. Your nerdly child may well move out and have a steady paying job and sensibly budget their insanely expensive hobbies. Fear not.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

My mother loves Miyazaki films and was the person who bought me crappy lesser known anime when I was a little girl.
Also, she watched Kasho no Tsuki with me (subtitled! That's an accomplishment for her) and liked it okay. She like Cowboy Bebop even though I don't. ^^;; Hehe, and she loves my AMVs. ^^
I have a friend though, who doesn't like anime and her mother is like OBSESSED with it! Now I find THAT hilarious! XD

People sure are funny. One usually thinks of the kids being interested in stuff like anime and loud music and stuff like that.
You wouldn't belive how often I've had to tell my Dad to turn down the music. (Of course, it doesn't help any that the subwoofers are on the floor, and some of that classical music has some major bass parts.)
Everybody's different. ^_^ That's a good thing. Do you have any idea how boring the world would be if we were all "normal"?

My dad isn't really interested in the animes that I watch but he watches other adult cartoons like Samurai Champloo or Family Guy
and although he doesn't really like my favorite anime(Fruits Basket) he likes the music that's coming from it, and I think it's cool coz' sometimes he tells me to play the DVD just to hear the songs or the midis.
Overall, he and my mom still supports me!

Yeah, I mean, people are people, whether they're parents or not. Everyone has different tastes and some parents might like anime and some might not. So it really isn't wierd if some parents like anime or if some parents don't. Actually, it'd be kinda wierd if no parents liked anime. Afterall, who do you think buys all that Pokemon stuff?
