More clips than song
I know that this is my second thread for the day but I am in a big dilema. I really want to start my next vid but their are more clips that I want to use then song. Anyone know of a good way to narrow down my clips so that I don't feel so overwhelmed?

I think we all face this problem at some point or another. So just try to figure out which clips would be more in sync with the song and which clips you need as much and save them for another video prject.

I think having more clips than song is always better than otherwise. If you have dropped all unnecessary clips and the song is still too short, you can try to stretch the song by repeating some parts, preferably instrumental parts. I did it for the project I'm working on. Fortunatly complete instrumental

That's interesting. I usually find the problem to be having more song than clips, not the other way around.
Is the issue that there’s just a lot of clips in the anime that you’d like to put to use? Or is it that there’s a particular story you’d like to tell and you’re not sure if the song is long enough to fit in all the plot details?
Maybe you’ve already considered this but one way you could fit more clips into the video is to overlay them. Think about it. If you edit a video entirely with overlayed clips, you’ll be using twice as many clips as you would if you edit a video only with single clips throughout. Might not be what you want to do but I thought it was worth suggesting.

I always had much more clips than what the song last, about 15-20 mn of clips compared to a usual 3mn song, so I had to choose the clips that fits the song the best, lyric-wise, or just music-wise, and for me it's really preferable to have more clip than song, that's just more comfortable for me to work like that.

Oddly enough I've found in my own experience (can't speak for everyone else ^^;; ) That the faster the song the more clips and the slower the song the less clips, because in a rapid paced song you (hopefully) change clips far more often. So if you have a lot of clips you want to use in the same AMV pick a fast paced song and trim them all and you can fit most everything into an AMV. And vice versa, if you find yourself in a situation with few clips, find a slow melodic song and just use a lot of fades and crap.
. . .
And so long as it doesn't look too awkward you can speed some clips up.
Aaaaand, one thing that I have done for a few AMVs that actually works *fantastically* (My one AMV that has remained at a 4.something consistently is done in this style) is to make the AMV twice to the same song, using half the footage in one and half in the other (DON'T reapeat the clips from one in the other) time each vid to a different aspect of the song (IE vocals vs beat/melody or one to drums another to piano). When you have your two AMVs done layer one on top of the other/transparency you know?. . . It looks awesome (IMO) and you can pack a lot of footage into a short time without having it seem too fast paced if the song isn't fast.
Well good luck!

Nevermind my post, I should read all the replies before I babble on.Maybe you’ve already considered this but one way you could fit more clips into the video is to overlay them. Think about it.
