I have no idea what that is, but if it's smaller than the current mp3s, and plays in Windows Media Player, or Winamp3, I'm all for it. ;p

Windows Media Player will never support Ogg Vorbis because Microsoft treats anything open-source as if it were venereal disease. There do exist DirectShow filters to split Ogg files and decode Vorbis data, but WMP will never, ever, ever officially recognize the existence of Ogg.
(As far as I see it, anyway -- they've had years to do so and haven't bothered.)

Winamp shouldn't have any trouble with Vorbis data, though.

An immediate thing that would help would be to compress the recordings into smaller files - wma would be 1/5th the size of an mp3, with about the same quality. It would at least let some of us download a copy of the 'show' and listen to it. I can't speak for all dial-up users, but I don't have 12 hours to download a huge 100+ mb mp3. I'd sooner try downloading anime episodes.
All I have to say is this: good luck convincing derobert to work in something Microsoft when he has other options.

So would Ogg Vorbis, especially with the aoTuV encoder. And that'd be playable anywhere, not just with proprietary software.

Well, if you're on a 56kbps modem, you often can't take a stream of more than 32kbps, so we need one that low. Now, the rest of us wouldn't want to listen to a 32kbps stream, so that requires a second stream. I'd go for a 192kbps stream.

Now, of course, then the're the problem with people being stubborn and wanting MP3 instead of Vorbis. That could get us to 3 or 4.

So, bassically, if we forced Bill Gates to watch VD is for Everybody the world would be a much better place?

/me wonders why Apple has so resisted adding Ogg Vorbis to iTunes. They're not so nearly anti-open-source as M$, and seem to be fine with the BSD license... Of course, it doesn't really matter, vlc works fine. [And, yes, I know about the qtx]

I was just tossing out the first thing that came to mind for quickly and easily cutting the file size in half. If the org did start hosting the recordings, whatever compression you use is fine - provided it's smaller than what they're offering on the current site (even 80mbs would shave a few hours off the current download time).

If Trythil says Winamp can play this ogg thing, I have no problem with it. ;p
