Any attempt to force people is going to fail. Its bein discused numerous times, and considering the reactions of this boards more mature editors, it isnt ever going to happen.

3. Make a 'feedback' thread for each video. Force everyone to write *something* each time he gives a star score. Keep it simple. Make it a "Explain why you liked or disliked this vid" question. It would not be connected to the star score (so those stay anonymous), but it would tell you who has watched your vid (unless we make it anonymous feedback to go with the anonymous stars), and it would give a few words of 'why' from each viewer without affecting the opinion system. This seems to be the easiest to implement - it would be like a hidden forum thread for each video, where the downloader has to make a post about the vid, and only the creator can see the thread. If you tossed in an option to reply to the posts, you could even have that discussion some people were wanting in the last "fix the op system" suggestion thread.
i say that's a pretty cool idea... i usually live detailed reviews for almost every vid i download whether its an op trade or not, but seems most ppl r just too lazy.. but anyways point is i realy like that idea. ppl need to leave more ops!

I'd be pissed if I were forced to write opinions.

Forcing peopel to write ops would probably have a bad outcome as it is. The first thing I can imagine is people leaving 10-words op just to get rid of the chore, and in all honesty, this is not exactly the kind of ops I'd like to receive.

A "enter quick opinion here" box, though, this would be interesting - coupled to the more detailed ops system (for those who want to leave more detailed feedback), it'd be much like a "guestbook" of some sorts, where people can leave their first impressions, a few words, more general comments (much like what I saw happening in the Announcements forum, for instance, where sometimes people announce their vids, then another person having downloaded it leaves a short review in the thread itself). This could probably work.

Granted, I'd like to leave more ops myself, but given how detailed I systematically end up being when I write one and the amount of vids I download here, I'd spend my time writing them all day long. I doubt my boyfriend and my boss would appreciate :P

I think this would make a good rule of thumb: any attempt to force ops will, at best, not work.

If you go and look at the original idea, comments with star rating are supposed to be optional: you can leave them if you want, otherwise just give the score as usual.

This would be a great way to provide quick feedback without having to write a full opinion.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I like it.

It wouldn't be all that useful for people who have really popular videos (how many stars does IWIWAL have?) but they have tons of oppinions already. This would be very nice for people who have one or two replies to their annoncement thred before it diapears for ever, forcing them to bargain for ops, which usually arn't as good.

As one of those ocational "long detailed and helpful" reviewrs I think it would be great to be able to leave a few words, a few key points, without having to worry about scores and whatnot.

Since we are already used to the star system this wouldn't be that hard for people to adapt to.

Well if you make giving opinions mandatory then more people will give bad ones. They will just put all 10's and say I was good. It will screw up the whole rating on an amv if eveyone just gave an opinion for the sake of giving one. When I give an opinion I give it an opinion not just say it's ok. So don't make giving opinions something everyone has to do. I'm sure amv creators would rather have opinions that mean something then someone just putting down it's good.

How about bringing this in a more positive direction. Maybe something extra for those who give well written and helpful opinions. A few new site options perhaps. I'd imagine it would have to be based on usefullness scores with those who try to cheat the system banned from it at first offence.
