STRANGE 2-fer-1 test

Post by Geirr » Sun May 22, 2005 1:52 am

I am trying to rationalize how many stars I give to AMV's (from 1 to 5.)
This is 90% or more based on personal opinion, so please don't be offended if you find out I don't like the same music or shows that you might. This just happens.

That said, IF YOU THINK you have TWO AMV's that will get a 3 or HIGHER based on THIS flowchart:

http://www.ados.com/~guy1656/AMV-Scorecard.jpg [1.7MB]

then I will opp your TWO vids for any ONE of mine.

First 4 takers guaranteed, others maybe more if my regular job doesn't kill me for time ...

Interesting curriculum. How about ops on my latest and previous videos?

errr...on second thought, you'd better not review my Poemi video. I didn't read your subroutine and that one is very offensive. I suppose, just choose from the others.

I am D/l-ing 'Kaoru and Maria' and 'Someday, Godai.'
Maison Ikkoku AMVs are getting rather rare - I'm glad to see
you take a shot at that series.

PM me on what king of vids you like, or go ahead and select any of mine ...

Wow...I was thinking of submitting a video, but after reading that flow chart...I don't have a snowball's chance in hell of making the cut!

You do realize that your standards exclude people even as talented as Kevin Caldwell, don't you?

By the way, watch this (and no, it's not mine). Don't judge a book by its cover or a video by its file format. Not every .wmv is edited with Windows Movie Maker; besides, some good stuff can come out of that program if one knows what one is doing.

I'm not trying to start an argument with you. I just think that you're being way too picky and I'll be surprised if anyone meets your standards. The flow chart is an interesting way of doing things, but a very harsh one. Then again, you did say that it was your personal opinion...

Please try to take some of this to heart and consider this: the ones who really need opinions are the newbies and they are exactly the people you exclude with that chart. Basically, you're asking for videos from really talented artists that already know they are really talented artists.

Like I said, don't take this as a flame - that's not how I mean it to sound.

I'll take a chance with these. One should pass the requirements with no problems but the reaction is up to the person. The other has a potential to pass the test but the song choice could kill it if the artistic side isn't seen. Either way you'll get an op regardless. No harm in that.

The first: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=20283

The second: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=72842

I'll op Projekt Oktober since I never heard of that anime used in the amv. It will be up tonight.

i find that offensive
wmv is NOT a bad video format
first of all not ever bad wmv vid is made wit movie maker, n second of all there r evn some good movie maker vids that exist.
i can easily make my vids avis but i prefer wmv cause thats the codec vegas gives me the best quality on. its pretty sad tho cause otherwise i'm assuming my vids quld qualify

About WMVs

Post by Geirr » Sun May 22, 2005 11:04 pm

Let me make sure it's clear - it's nothing political or elitist, or n00b-vs-expert, or snootiness. I am sorry it might have appeared that way. It's just that most of my computers which connect directly to the Internet run various flavors of Linux. Actually, I am only a n00b-level user of Linux - so I usually have to get help when it comes to new codecs, and I really, really, really, -HATE- recalibrating and tweaking systems once I have something that works. That, plus I live way out in the sticks, so tweaking on a Linux box means carting it into the city to some of my Linux-capable friends to pound on. This is something I do about once or one-and-a-half times a year.

Right now, WMV's don't play on most of the systems I have around for watching videos and AMV's, so -that's- the reason why I'd rather not opp WMV's, at least for now. I certainly don't mean to rile anybody's hackles with this, but if the AMV doesn't play on MPlayer or Xine running in KDE on Mandrake 10, then I can't watch the AMV, and then I can't rate it right?

So it's not a matter of discarding a book by its cover, rather, I'd be interested in watching the project if MS didn't glue the book shut with a nasty, proprietary codec. The other formats are either ones which I just haven't figured out how to install in in Linux, (and frankly, I have tons of other hobbies and AMV projects I'd rather work on in the time I'd spend surfing the 'net for rpm's, tarballs, and patches.) Or, like ra's and mov's, they are of a type which the only player available uses some sort of intrusive, phone-home type player or installation.

Anyway, no offense taken.

OK, your opps for 'Kaoru and Maria' and 'Someday, Godai' are up.

Meanwhile, I have d/l-ed 'Ghost of Self' and 'Tomorrow's not Today,' (from lilgumba) and I should get those up within a few days.

Thank you for your comments on 'Oktober.'
