Non-Anime AMVs?

Post by twotengoten » Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:56 am

Okay, I have a question, am I allowed to upload a video that uses something not necessarily an anime, like Samurai Jack? Some other kinda animated movie/show? Someone told me videos like that aren't allowed...I think that would be kinda silly but I figured I would ask anyway just to make sure.

This has been discussed thoroughly. If you care, search. If not, look at the title of the thread you created. "Non-Anime AMVs?" Yeah... AMV stands for anime music video, so there can be no such thing as a non-anime AMV. There are a few exceptions, but Samurai Jack isn't one of them. That's all there is to it.

So no matter how insanely awesome I make a video to an animated source, if it isn't exactly anime, it's not allowed on this site?

Precisely. The quality of the video is immaterial. If it's not anime, it's not anime, and thus doesn't go here.

I've seen videos that contain things that aren't anime. Some videos have looney tunes, some videos have non final fantasy/kingdom hearts video games, and some even have some live action in them. Why are these videos allowed? Why aren't they deleted? One of the top videos on this site, "Right Now Someone Is Watching This Video" contains looney tunes and live action, why is it still allowed?

There's a rule of thumb: it has to be majority anime. "Right Now" definately qualifies under that.

As for video games, there are other allowed video games than FF and KH stuff.

If a video is majority non-anime (like Teen Titans or something, there's a lot of those around), then you should report it so we can deal with it.

Okay, so as long as there is enough anime in the video to satisfy the "majority" rule, it's allowed...well what if it's 51% anime 49% non-anime animation. I mean...you really have to draw the line. I think non-anime animated sources should be allowed. Perhaps it could be it's own category in the listings, so that people would know. Obviously live action, being not an animated source at all, shouldn't be allowed at all. You can't be in that "gray" area.

There's no hard and fast rule here, unfortunately - that's why I called it a "rule of thumb". However, things that are clearly majority non-anime shouldn't be here.

As for what you think should and shouldn't be here, well, that's nice. It's not your call, though, or really mine either. This site has a purpose, and it doesn't include non-anime videos, otherwise animated or not.
