Trying to view a downloaded amv

Post by BunofGovt » Wed Jan 12, 2005 11:11 pm

Well, I’ve searched the forum for help with viewing an amv I downloaded. It’s extension is .avi and I’ve been able to view .avi vids before. I’m using an iBook and Quicktime 6.5.2. The amv in question is:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=53440

From the suggestions I found in the forum:
I downloaded ffdshow and the file appears as ffdshow-20041012.exe. I double-click it and get the message that the file can’t be opened because it isn’t a file that Quicktime understands.

I downloaded and installed WMV9 and still can’t play the amv (I assumed once the WMV9 is installed that all I would need to do is double-click on the .avi file to get it to start playing – the audio plays fine but I don’t get any video).

I emailed kitsunebeolnet who suggested downloading Divx 5.5 codec but the codec at the Divx website is 5.2. I can't find the 5.5 codec.

I have Divx and downloaded XVID Delegate for Mac OS but still can’t view the video. I downloaded another amv from the same creator but the same thing happens as with the first amv. Is there anything else you can suggest? Or do I just give amvs from this creator a miss? Thanks for your help and patience.

You doubleclicked it inside your Quicktime player? [confuzzled]

When you download the exe file, you double-click it inside the folder you saved it to - that installs the filter to your computer. Then you open the video and try to play it - once you install ffdshow, you should be able to see the video in WMP9 (you won't if you haven't installed the filter to your computer).

When I clicked on the .exe file, I get the Quicktime message. I may have downloaded the ffdshow file incorrectly? I'll try it again and see what happens (according to the one post I read, it should have opened up an install something "ini" that I need to click but that doesn't appear).

FFDShow is a windows direct show codec, so it wont work on a mac.

You should try one of these Mac players:

MplayerOSX

or

VLC media player

Unable to view yet another amv

Post by BunofGovt » Mon Jan 17, 2005 8:22 pm

I was going to post a new thread but thought I might try re-opening this one instead. I have downloaded another amv

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=58698

and am unable to view this one. I tried everything mentioned previously, unsuccessfully. The creator mentioned downloading Divx but I said that was no good either - he gave the okay to ask for help. This is his first amv so I have nothing to compare to.

When I drop the file onto MplayerOSX, the screen opens and a screen pops up with what I think is Sliggity Slice Productions but the text is distorted. The music starts but all I see is the distorted text. After about a minute into the song, 'proudly presents' appears, then it looks like the clips start, but slo-owly, frame at a time. Then the screen is covered all over with little squares, shifting (sort of like those little puzzles where you move one square to move another, to get a picture). The song ends long before the shifting screen does. I’ve also installed VLC but when I try to open the file, all I get is the title page (comes in clear but that's all I get, not even music). I then get an error message that there's five seconds of blank something frames? and the computer is too slow? I downloaded it a second time just in case it got corrupted during the first download but the same thing happens. Any other advice? Sorry if I should have put in a new post rather than re-open this one.
