FullMetal Doubt

Post by Tono_Fyr » Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:11 pm

*Wipes head then smiles proudly*.

Finished, after a month in production. To a lot of you, that probably isn't a lot, but it's plenty for someone who's longest project prior took three days.

I used a Yoko Kanno song from Escaflowne, Shadow of Doubt, to cover the sadness, sorrow, and shadow of FullMetal Alchemist. Ed really has a life full of doubt, and the name just kind of hit me about half way through the project. It's a mix of instrumental, action, character profile, and serious, which is basically what I was going for.

Crap! I knew I shouldn't have uploaded on dial up >.< I wish I could fix it, no wonder it's been getting such bad ratings...

The copy I have works fine.... All the way through it. DAMMIT!

Can anyone tell me how to get it fixed?

Well, you *could* have tested the upload like you're supposed to before you confirm it. But that would have been the logical thing to do, and that's just not how we do things here at the 'Org ;-)

Seriously, go to the Edit Video page and submit a deletion request, specifying that you only want the Local upload deleted. Then upload a good copy again and this time be sure to use the preview option.

I sent a request, but it always takes so damn long for it to go through.

I really do hate dial up.

Well, I downloaded it and watched it. No problems on my end, technically.

Overall, it seemed to lack cohesion. Sure, there was emotion in the video, and at times it was expressed very clearly, but there was no progression, in my opinion.

In my opinion the effects detracted from the video, because they seemed gratuitous. The color highlights at 00:35 were subtle enough to look good, but then the stuff you do at like, 1:32 and onwards, with the motion paths, overlays, flips, lensflares, color strobes, 'film' overlays... it just doesn't work. I did like the effect at 3:38, though, just because, again, it was less 'in your face' than everything else you used.

In terms of editing, a lot of the cuts just seemed random. Sometimes they were jarring, sometimes it was just distracting.

What was your source? I only saw a flash of *one* subtitle at about 3:56, close to 3:57. You handled the footage very well, most FMA videos tend to suck becausep eople don't know what they're doing with fansubs. I'm slowly collecting the R2 footage...

Overall... a fair effort, and it's a decently long instrumental video and you get props for having ambition, but it falls short.

That's good.

Eh, I wasn't entirely going for cohesion, more of a video of some of Ed's pain and suffering, though I think it came together fairly well.

Well, I can understand what you mean by that. This video was kind of an experiment with effects. My video before that was kind of a cautious step into effects, but I didn't get all that many in. This one got washed over with them. Personally, I like a lot of the stuff that I did, though. Particularly the stuff with Hughes, the film effects on him, and that lens flare was probably one of my favorite things to see in action.

I personally wouldn't call them random. While they weren't really planned "this will go here", they were chosen depending on the mood. Eh, I like the editing on it, but that might just be pride.

100% fansubs. And thanks. I thought I saw something at that point as well, but I never found it again even after several watches. I tried finding it to cut it, but the little bugger wasn't there.

Thanks.
