Ok, lets try it this way then. What makes an AMV bad?

Die. Right now. I'm serious.
mmmmm? what are you implying?

(yeah took me a while to respond but... you know things come up)
Video's can't be bad if they have lots of effects. If you don't like them, that means you suck.
STFU! Your IQ is getting lower with every post you make.
I thought it was pretty obvious that Pyle was being sarcastic.
bote wrote:Doing good editing, good timing, good effects, everything that is technical, is a very painful process. You call nights and days spent on only 1 sec. fun? I call that a freakin ordeal. Add the type of video that is "angst" on top of that and voila: a shatered body+a dieing brain=urge to kill. Or maybe I'm just filtering out what's left of the agony that the last video had given me :O. That pretty much won't make any sence to people who have never put "real" effort in a video.
It is perfectly possible to put three months of work into a video and still have fun doing it.

Can it be tedious? Of course it can.
But that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it.

And, again, does editing a video have to be just about cutting up clips?

Like I said, I HATE editing per se, with a passion. I honestly can't stand sitting and working in premiere.

And yet I'm still having a lot of fun. I'm having fun making these things up. I'm having fun having things turn out totally different from what I imagined they would be. I'm having fun when something suddenly 'falls into place'. And I have fun watching my own videos afterwards, repeatedly.

If there was no internet and no people to show my videos to, there is a good chance I would still make videos. I don't deny that showing others videos and getting feedback is not part of this fun - but doesn't have to be competitive, and it doesn't have to be about this big "ME". I do derive fun from people watching my videos, not from people watching me.

And frankly (and I'm sure this is not true of most people), there really isn't a lot of 'me' in my videos to begin with. In other words, I like people watching my videos, but not because it gives me some (undeserved) credit.

But don't get me started on my philosophy of art again
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Even though your tone is negative that is 100% true. My goal: to be the best. Never did I do this for fun, it was always to beat others and win competitions. For me AMV's are serious business. Period.
Your never going to be satisfied with that attitude. I hate to burst your buble man but since quality is all subjective, the only way you can measure success is popularity. With your editing style and choice of music you will NEVER be as popular as who your trying to beat.

I'll admit I take AMVs seriously and there is a very heavy competitive spirit in what drives me but its always what I call rather passive competition. Case in point: I know I'm a better creator than tons of people here but that is my own opinion and I don't actively try to remind everyone of it. I make the very best videos I can and thats it. They speak for themselves whichs relives me of going around the internet saying "HEY DUDE IM THE F'ING BEST", which (while not as blunt and stupid sounding) is a tone I've picked up from a number of your posts.

In my opinion a video driven by the above attitude will never be as good as someone who has something to say.

The way I see it:

Everyone has their own reasons and goals of making AMVs.
Who in the hell cares.
Lurid Enchantment - ICYCLOUD
urban suite - TRYTHIL
大切な思い - BAKADESHI
Expansion - RESK

of course, if its an intense dramatic moment do you want a strobe light flashing and random colored squares wizzing about the screen at 50 mph? damn straight you dont, notice how i used the words "that arent needed" effects are amazing in fact i concentrate mostly on effects :P go crazy now!

no philosophical debate thread in general amv is complete without a quoting pyramid

and yes, anything that doesn't conform to our guidelines of what is good is bad.
