Should we allow people to take names from inactive accounts?

for downloading as an Active Marker.. My thinking on this would
not be for the General Public, I'm thinking of the Armed Forces people who

are sometimes TDY or go oversea's and do not have access for 6 months to
3 years at a time.. If a "clause" were asked when they sign-up
that had a "checked location" saying "Active Military and/or National Guard"
were part of the Sign-up + the Log-In on that persons "name" - could that
account then be easier to manage?

criteria:
Name:
E-mail:
Active Duty/ National Guard/ Reserves: yes/no

because most people who are active duty have no control over where or when
they are being sent somewhere and/or what they can/can't take with them!

There are people on this forum that have gone TDY/deployed and have access to the site. Internet connections are available at most overseas locations now, including Iraq. Even then, most deployments are around 6 months in length or less so this really isn't a problem.

As for myself I ran into this situation a few months ago when I wanted to change my name. This person originally had the account name though they hadn't logged in for over 2 years. Ultimately it is up to you, the admins, to decide but I personally feel that if the user hasn't logged into the site for a year and a half, hasn't made any ops, hasn't made any videos, and has less than 30 forum posts then a name change should be allowed.

Well let's not just limit this to military personnel then; I can see how people outside the military can be cut off from the internet by circumstance beyond their control...

From what I see, since posting/donating/uploading/reviewing excludes you from being 'deleteable' already - what's the point of any exceptions, military or civilian?

If you're only here to download, you can set up a new account within a minute or two, and there's no more 2-week probation, so...

...go figure

If this is a viable option, can I get put at the head of the list? I made my request the day I joined:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... ht=#221839

The account in question is mine, so no one else will be hurt if it's renamed (I'd rather have it deleted, but beggars/choosers and all).

The name is Arigatomina, I don't remember the password (I had to change it so I'd stop logging into it by mistake). I'd want that one renamed and my name changed to it. This is the only place online where I can't go by Arigatomina, and yes, that one letter change does make a difference. Pretty please with sugar on top?

I'm assuming that the primary reason to do this is to free up some names taken at one time or another by people who signed up to dl a video and never came back because they forgot their password. Having done this myself once (and knowing several people who have done this numerous times) i'm sure this would free up a lot of user names that would never be used. I say go for it with the stipulations already presented regarding utilization of the site.

- I still want "traxx" ... however, could we have the dates we "first" jointed
be changed - to reflect that we were here on our earier "forgotten names" ?

( i.e. post-it, jwolsieffer, traxx, merlins_magic ) and what would happen if
I could somehow remember what those old passwords were - it wouldn't
do anybody any good!

I know when my first join-date was, I just can't remember what my passwords
are ~_~ ... but I would like my first sign-up date to be marked on my newest name.

kinda like ErMaC forgetting his password and everyone calling him a noob
because he forgot his password!

8-)

This is definatly case by case. I can see this happening with `my duplicate account ______ is mine, and I want the name back from it'... then it makes sense for the admin as well to change your name, but to manually set your join date back.

But the `I was so here in 2000 yo!' is not a good proof. Also, join dates are so elitist. Bleh, they shouldnt even be displayed at all. I mean, look at mine! And I can claim to have been looking up vids in the org long before even making an account! I wouldnt want to get into that war.

As a point of interest, I only started reading the forums a few months ago, despite using the website a lot all those years.

wanted to add this awsome example of why displaying join dates suck (although you could deduce how old someone has been around by how big his account # is.... omfg 5 digits!)

SS5_Majin_Bebi in this thread
You're one to talk, you joined last year. I was here for a year before you
This isnt really a jab at him personnally, just that getting to deep into join dates is gona be.... icky.
