Noone is stopping you from using downloaded footage.

But don't come back crying later when you realize how absolutely terrible it looks.

Making a full video out of a single trailer, or maybe even two, is pretty unlikely. On the other hand, if you have DVD sources for a bunch of trailers, you could probably cobble together something that will look alright. I don't imagine you can tease too much 'story' out of a trailer-sourced video though...

Usually, if it looks terrible, that's a reliable sign; subtitles and logos of various sorts are a clue too.

There are exceptions of course, when good filtering and compression of a reasonably-well-compressed source compensate for the deficiencies...

Still, chances are it will look like crap. And if it doesn't, most of the time downloaded footage is really going against the site's ethics (although unlicensed fansub footage does seem to be tolerated - not to say encouraged).

Oh and unless you get it of a dvd, the trailer quality will probably be crap.

OMG, I haven't checked the Star Scale in the past hour! My top video might have dropped a place or two!
And I haven't even started on my major project for next year yet, and I have to think of something that's got lots of lines that I can shamelessly synch to, like "Word to your mother!"
And I still have to make something that's a mega-success, but I don't want to seem elitist (by the way, please let the Otakon AMV panel be moderated by someone ELSE next year)!
And this dot crawl is just KILLING me! And ACH, the rainbows!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

... oh wait, you said "Note to self: humor...", not "self-humor".

I was going to ask him why the hell he posted a note to himself for everyone to read,
but I wasn't sure what the hell he was saying.

Wrong, actually. Its part of most of us.

Now, turn out your pockets, give me all your bank and credit card numbers, your phone passwords, your AMV password, all your money, then drop and give me 60000 index-finger pushups with your legs in the air.
