English Dubbed Anime
Just received Haibane Renmei in the mail today. It was the first time I ever heard the English voice over, and I have to it was horrible. In fact, I swear it is the same person doing the dubbing for most of the characters. If the character's mouths did not move while they were talking it would have been a serious problem. I hated the voices so much I quickly stopped the episode entered the options menu and selected Japanese voices with English subtitles. Rather than endure another minute of the almost sickening English dub.
Sometimes is swear the Japanese are incapable of a competent English voice over.

Um... why on earth would you think the Japanese did it?Poetic_Kaos wrote:

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

To be fair, it isn't entirely unheard of...Otohiko wrote:Um... why on earth would you think the Japanese did it?Poetic_Kaos wrote:

At one point Big West decided to make their own English dub for Macross: Do You Remember Love? ...they employed Australian and Hong Kong actors for it...the job, as I understand it, was less than stellar...but nevertheless, it has happened before

Hmm, not impossible, sure, but I'd consider that a huge rarity.
BTW, I just heard my first example of non-Engrish english in non-dubbed anime the other day (the thugs in ep. 1 of Beck). That was hilarious

The Japanese do the original Japanese language track. English dubbing is done by the company who licensed the anime for English speaking audiences; like VIZ, ADV, Bandai etc.Poetic_Kaos wrote:Sometimes is swear the Japanese are incapable of a competent English voice over.
I agree that English dubbing is horrible, which it is 99% of the time and is usually never as good as the Japanese voice acting.
