I agree IF, you have a really kick ass idea that you know exactly what you're gonna do on.

Sometimes you just get those ideas, where you WANNA do it, but the inspiration to do it never really hits you the right way.

I take it you are a complete nOOb when it comes to making amv's, if you have ever sat down from month-to-month and realised just how much of a ball breaker it is then you will understand where Im coming from just a little common curtesy would be nice from other amv creaters.
Im not saying its not fun to make amv's but it is quite annoying and sometimes it just isnt worth it. If you think its fun then go ahead and knock yourself out but in due time after you make 5-10 amvs and you still have no HONEST op's then you might begin to get a little pissed at it.

Please... I may have to go back and edit sometimes. Hell, sometimes I have to redo my whole vid, but I don't bitch about it. As long as I enjoy what I'm doing, theres nothing to complain about.

If he ment, opinions as in, what other creators thought of his vid, then hey, good. But, if he ment opinions to get on the top 10% list, then, that just basically sucks. I know a few who create AMV's just to get on top 10%. :?

Yes, that is what I meant, and I guess the smiley face wasn't enough to make my intent clear.

It's a bit of a running joke that I make AMVs for attention and recognition (also: think the reason Shinji pilots Eva), and that I pay far too much attention to my scores on the Star Scale and Top 10% lists.

(One creator, who shall remain nameless, once referred to my "MUST CONQUER THE WORLD WITH MY AMVS quest"...)

Art and arrogance go hand in hand. Part of artistic integrity is not caring what anyone else thinks and doing what you feel is right. But human nature makes us long for acknowledgement. We want others to recognize we are right.

*looks both ways*

What? I haven't said anything in a while.

Truth.

Half of me makes videos to be creative and have fun, the other half does it to gain attention and recognition. Because of that, I'm literal when I say that half the fun of making art woulud die if I were the only person left on the planet.

Yes, as I am fond of saying: "The second most important thing for an amver is a big ego, to convince him that he can do anything. The most important thing for an amver is a partner, to reign in his ego." My partner, Nyaa-chan, is just as important in that regard as he is in the technical support he provides.

I make AMVs for a wide variety of reasons. I suppose the first and foremost is the desire for recognition, however unlikely. I mean, guys like Fluxmeister and Zarxrax are renowned for their work. The desire to have people watch our work and say "That was awesome, those guys are brilliant" is a strong motivator. Of course, I'm well aware that we have a LOOOOOOOONG way to go to get to that level.

Additionally, I make many AMVs out of a simple desire to see them done. One of our AMVs which is nearly complete was partly done as part of Dizzy Samurai's drive to get Australian bands more exposure (apart from Silverchair and AC/DC, most Australian bands get mostly or completely shafted). Other times we just have an idea SO GOOD (in our estimation) that we figure it simply MUST be done. And since I worry about the idea being stuffed up, we keep them to ourselves until we can do it. This necessitates waiting until our skills are at the requisite level to do the AMV justice, which in some cases will take a while...

We're both anime otaku, so we both just plain love AMVs, of course.

Additionally, despite the lost sleep, the frustration when Premiere crashes or you get a bad case of Amver's Block, and the expenses to pay for material, the thrill I get when I realise we've just done something really good is near orgasmic. Just being able to shout out loud (if the house is empty of course) "YES! Dammit, I am a GENIUS!" upon getting that shot JUST right makes it all worthwhile. It gives me a better sense of self-worth, something I'm rather lacking in.

Finally, along with Dance Dance Revolution, making AMVs is the only hobby I have which is actually useful to me (we're developing formidable editing skills, while DDR gives me a great cardiovascular workout and improves my foot/eye coordination and balance). I've considered looking for a career in video editing, although I'll probably need some formal qualifications first.

Anyway, those are most of the reasons I make AMVs.
