DVD Ripping Errors

I seem to be having trouble with Ripping my DVDs... I can rip them fine and convert them to AVI but when I play the AVI version they look weird... The quality of a scene with not much movement is fine, but as soon as any action happens the picture gets kind of choppy and parts seem to shift left and right. It's weird... Does anyone know whats going on? Or how I can fix this? Is this caused by ripping the DVD wrong or is it happening during AVI converting?

well obviosly the problem is when your converting them to avi. www.divx.com . download the free (or 6 month trial, whatever) version of the program. then just use the profiles when encoding the vob's to avi. nice, simple and newbie freindly

Bum, shut up already. If you're going to give an answer then MAKE SURE ITS FUCKING RIGHT.

It has bugger-fuck-all to do with the profiles in your AVI encoder, LukeStrife. What it has EVERYTHING to do with is the fact that most DVDs are interlaced. All you have to do is apply a simple deinterlacing filter to your footage before any cropping or resizing. Thats what it sounds like to me.

Oh, if you're PAL user, a simple deinterlace should fix you right up. If, however, you're a NTSC user, then you may have to IVTC your footage. Check the guides page linked from the main AMV page for info on this.

again, i would like to extend my appologies to everyone here for not being perfect like others are. i shal now go and behead myself with a nice, long and well sharpened katana, as is traditional in australia.
