Does anyone actually use one of these ? I can understand them for graphics professionals or serious amateur photographers (which is how I heard about them). But for amateur video makers...seems like a touch much.
They are cheaper than they used to be. CompUSA is selling two different models:
$200 - SpyderPRO
$100 - Color Plus
The manufacturer of both of these is ColorVision.

If you decide to look for one, make sure it does both CRTs and LCD screens. In my searches, I came across some that only did one or the other.trythil wrote:Definitely expensive, but probably worth it. I do my AMV work on separate computers, and the fact that my colorizing work always looks slightly different on a laptop as opposed to a desktop can make AMVing a pain.
I'm also leary of using those suction cups on my LCD monitors since their surfaces are plastic instead of glass. I saw one Web page (can't seem to find it again with Google) where the guy described hanging the spyder by its cable from a point above and slightly behind the monitor's surface. With the monitor tilted back a little, the spyder just lay against the front surface. He didn't need to press the suction cups to hold it in position.
I think I'd go even further and replace the suction cups with small felt pads.
