Windows Media Player 9 not working for me

Post by odin_mage » Tue Jul 13, 2004 6:48 am

It plays the video, but I can't hear any sound. I reinstalled it. What could be the problem or could it be the head phones?

Try hooking up your speakers.
Does the audio work?

Do you have the audio settings on in Windows Media Player Settings?

Try using another video player and see if the audio works. If it does, WMP9 is fucked up.

The speakers work. I noticed that our (defaul?) player had switched to Quick Time I think. I had to switch it back. My brother said he remembered the head phones playing just fine.

I never understand why people like to regress... If you've got a big heaving PC, why not run a bit of eyecandy?

Heck, you don't even need big or heaving. I could run Windows Media Player 9 perfectly when I would downclock my CPU to 500MHz (for heat issues, I like to work fanless at night 8) )

One thing MP7,8,9 & 10 have in their favour is the equalizer, when it's set up "right" (I assume it's one of those preference things) it sounds awesome. I listen to all my music through WMP 10 instead of my HiFi, yes, it's that much more customisable, though the subwoofer on these PC speakers doesn't have as much kick to it.

Never mind though, that's what 8 channel soundcards and auxillary cables are for. Running the PC sound through a 4.1 PC setup with a 400W Panasonic behind you is something awesome, so great for watching AMVs.

Oh, while I'm here I might as well post the EQ settings I recommend.

From Left to right, starting at 31Hz

0, 0, 0, -6, -3, 0, +3, +6, +9, +6

Image

If you don't have a subwoofer, or it sounds a bit weedy, put the 62Hz up to +3 or +6. Remember, just a suggestion :D

And before you ask/assume, I am NO Microsoft fanboy, it's only recently I lost all my AMV save files since it locked me out of Windows saying I used up all my registration chances. Monopolising bastards.

I use Winamp. It works great.

By the way, are you sure it`s not a codec prob with the specific video(s) you`re trying to watch and not with the player? If that`s the case, they`ll probably be mute on QuickTime as well.

Or you can go to winamp.com and download the plugins.
